It was only a few days ago when news broke that Amy Hennig, creative director of the Naughty Dog's iconic Uncharted series, had left the studio. It didn't take long for rumours to start spreading like wildfire that she hadn't left by her own choice, and was supposedly "forced out" by Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, two fellow developers from the team that was behind The Last of Us.
Thankfully, Naughty Dog Co-Presidents Evan wells and Christophe Balestra have provided a statement to help extinguish this speculation. Writing on the studio's website, they state that the the breaking news was "unprofessionally misreported" and that "Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann were not involved in what transpired." They go on to say how much the former employee would be missed, and how much they appreciate the "significant contributions that she made to Naughty Dog and industry in general." What do you make of the situation at Sony's most popular first party studio? Wish Hennig well with us in the comments section below.

Rumors about games are ok but not really about people like tabloids.. Just need Amy Hennig to comment now. 'The wind that blows is all that anybody knows'
Now everyone who said those 2 were " scumbags" must feel like real asshats. I cant believe how much people believe whats on the internet. Even if it was, you have NO RIGHT calling them that(helped in one of the greatest games ever). I mean, no offense but its only one person. She probably had her reasons for leaving, no idea why people are freaking out so much about it.
They still dont explain why she was fired. I am actually not sure what makes this different from all the other job losses. I kind of suspect it has something to do with gender, but thats just a thought.
I knew she left, but I had no idea there was even a bru ha ha over this. lnk pls?
People leave jobs all the time, sometimes by choice, sometimes not, but always the rumours follow.
I must admit I don't think it was a smart move on Naughty Dog's part to comment on the rumours. Rather than quelling them they've attracted even more attention as well as adding mystery and intrigue to the mix. On another website that I've just been to I've seen all manner of comments ranging from those that are focusing on what the statement neglects to mention (i.e. why Hennig left) to those conspiracy theorists who are proclaiming "so the rumours are true!". It's difficult to comment on rumours in a way that improves the situation and it only really works in those cases where it's possible to make a full disclosure of facts to stop substitute rumours from popping up instead.
You guys know she will either go and join forces with Xbox or go into movies.
If I'm Ubisoft I would be hunting her down.
@Shellybird27
I think I was the only one who called them that and nope, doesn't change at all what I think about Druckmann and Straley and I'm well within my rights to state it. As I said in my comment on the other article. I don't care at all for how these two carry themselves in interviews. They delivered a great game one of the best, maybe the best of the PS3/360 gen imo, no taking that away from them, but maybe rack up a resume as legendary as that of Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto before acting like the greatest things to ever happen to the game industry.
Sounds like she was forced out. If it weren't true wouldn't Sony be looking into litigation for libel against newscorp.
@shingi_70
Naughty Dog also waited 3 days to comment. If this wasn't the case the rumors should've been debunked right away.
@Gamer83 What do you mean? they're super nice in interviews.
@Shellybird27
It's about how the carry themselves. Some people, like Miyamoto for example, have this humbleness about them. Others, like Druckmann, carry themselves like they can do wrong. He seems very smug and arrogant to me and you can just tell by looking at him that he's full of himself.
I don't think it's our business to know why someone was dismissed. Tabloids and the like seem to have affected people's perception of others' privacy.
@Gamer83 are just assuming? Because i think you are...
@Shellybird27
Just stating what I've thought of them after seeing some interviews.
@Gamer83 I wouldn't go so far as to call Miyamoto's resume "legendary", it may have been legendary in the 90's, but not now. I like Nintendo games as much as the next guy, but some people have put them - and some employees - on a pedestal that they have no right being on.
As for Neil and Bruce, they're 2 of the nicest guys you could ever meet, I've seen a lot of their interviews and they're always super courteous. You must be confusing their confidence with something else because they're the furthest you could get from being a scumbag.
@BornOfEvil Exactly, they seem so likable and humble.
@Shellybird27 "I mean, no offense, but it's only one person." Yes just one person. Only the head script writer for the Uncharted series, arguably the best written games of this last generation. That's like saying, yeah, J.K. Rowling stopped writing Harry Potter, but what's the big deal? Future Harry Potter movies will be just as good if someone else writes the story. Hmm...maybe, but you can't deny it isn't a big loss.
Just to add Uncharted 2 had three writers, one of which was Amy Hennig.
The point? Someone will (already has) taken her place. So unless Uncharted PS4 has a noticeable drop in script quality lets not latch on to conspiracy theories, which seems to be famous in debates recently led by one person but still.
The Point again? Uncharted 2 was the pinnacle of the series and showed the more writers you have the more consistent the plot is. Is this leave a problem? How would any of you know? Unless i can see something substantial to prove otherwise improve your factual augmentation because its non-existent atm.
@Big-Boss "Uncharted 2 was the pinnacle of the series and showed the more writers you have the more consistent the plot is."
By the admittedly low standards of video game storytelling, possibly. With movies, the opposite tends to be true.
That is still a general "safe" response, thats does not clarify anything about why she was either fired or given a choice to leave. Like with Phil Harrison, people with great minds that invest a lot of heart into their work and the company they work for, don't tend to leave at a moments notice. It's possible she strongly disagreed with the direction that Sony wants to take for a UC4 or another PS4 project. I work in a crop. environment and know when emails that state, "their contributions are greatly appreciated, blah, blah..." that person was fired, or forced out.
Whatever the reason, it's a big mistake. Her vision and perspective brought us brilliant games, story telling and massive awards to the Sony brand. Doesn't take a genius to realize you keep some one like that at all cost. Now what, she gets replaced by some guy who will rehash things we've seen before. Hopefully not, but this is a downer.
Maybe she left Naughty Dog to replace Joseph Staten at Bungie? There has not been a peep out of him nor bungie since he left. They wished him well in a post on Bnet but that was about it.
