It's no secret that NetherRealm Studios' creative director Ed Boon has been teasing us all over the past few weeks. In an unnecessarily convoluted manner, he has been mysteriously counting down to something on his Twitter account, which we're led to believe may be Mortal Kombat X. Fortunately, it appears that the cat is out of the bag a bit early: the next Mortal Kombat is on its way.
The announcement came after a Reddit user posted a picture of a black poster, which showed a cracked spine, as well as the franchise's iconic logo, and the query: "Who's next?" While people have rightly questioned the legitimacy of this convincing evidence, Boon performed a fatality on the speculation by updating his Twitter avatar and header with the poster's dragon emblem and slogan, and added: "Ahhh...that fits better!"
The iconic symbol has been simplified to a black-and-white image with a couple of minor changes – most notably a redesign made to the dragon's eye. Further details have yet to be revealed, but the strange countdown continues in the meantime. What do you think of this premature reveal? Are you pumped up for the possibility of exciting, spine-chattering kombat on the PS4? What do you think of the slightly altered logo? Get over here in the comments section below.

Yes! I'm really excited for this.
@get2sammyb hopefully it comes to vita because it will be cool to play in bed or on the go:)
Totally pumped! Just holding out on a Collectors Edition with a fight-stick controller!
New mk? Yes please.
This is exactly how it played out 3 years ago with mk9, so we'll probably see a release sometime in March. Boon also stated in the past that mk10 will be next gen only.
Yes please. I do wish they'd tone down on the violence though.
Can't wait, after such a long time the series is finally back on track to awesome!
Awesome!
@SimonAdebisi um, it's a fighting game?
@THEundying27 I think he was speaking about Mortal Kombats ultra violent gore theme that even got some of the games banned.
@SimonAdebisi I respectfully disagree...Mortal Kombat is about the gore and violence as much as the fighting. Just my humble opinion, though.
@Reverend_Skeeve @THEundying27 apologies for my sarcasm. I wish for entrails and powdered bone
Nice! I was a big fan of the reboot from a few years ago. Can't wait to see what the series will look like on PS4!!
