As promised, Sony has provided a blink and you’ll miss it glimpse at upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive The Order: 1886. The footage is set during an early chapter, and shows the Knights fighting a group of Rebellion troops in an obsessively rendered London street. We get a good look at protagonist Galahad’s thermite rifle, as well as the extraordinary next-gen visuals that developer Ready at Dawn has crafted.
While the video is undeniably short, we like the interaction between the four main characters, as they work together to see off their adversaries. In addition, we can’t overstate just how good the release looks – this is an exciting indication of what the Japanese giant’s latest super machine can do. The big question is: do you like what you’ve seen? Are you still worried that this is going to be little more than a pretty third-person shooter? Don your monocle in the comments section below.

W!O!W!!! Looks REAL
My facial hair can barely contain itself!
@get2sammyb
Its like they took the dudebro from gears of war and replaced it with a novel from one of the Bronte sisters.
I could fap to this! 0_o it's sooooo pretty!
Looks nice. Does this one have local multiplayer?
@get2sammyb The Tearing 1886
@shingi_70 The Dudebro 1886: Bore of War.
It is a 'pretty 3rd pers shooter' and looks awesome
Looks pretty ropey to me. Looks like it still needs a lot of work.
This game would be a day one buy if it had local or online co-op. It has very nice transitions from gameplay to cut-scene, but I need to see more gameplay. I would rather it be delayed for it to include mp, because if this is only sp than I can't see it selling well if the game's gameplay and story isn't enough.
gorgeous visuals, but alas i fear the gameplay MEH... maybe RYSE son of rome like...A visual treat, but using guns instead of swords. I see no innovation whatsoever in the brief gameplay . In the couple of gameplay clips I've seen so far, the action is almost corridor like linear .
@Davros79 I think that's fair - it's so hard to decipher anything from such a short clip, though. I do think Sony's doing a terrible job with promoting these games. More on that in a future article, I guess...
I think others have summed it up pretty well. The visuals are top-shelf... muah! But visuals are just visuals, and graphics don't make a game fun.
Not to say the game looks bad, because it doesn't- I mean, it looks worth buying to me. For sure. But at the same time, nothing about it screams "substantially memorable experience". But to me, there are only two kinds of games- games that are fun and games that aren't. As long as it's fun, that's all I care about.
Well i guess it will be another gear of wars
I m not ultimately impressed but will play it regardless
Im really looking for a 3rd pers shooter with awesome graphics and story and would be more than happy, but come on people .. no innovation? that was like a cutscene but in gameplay.. guaranteed immersion
@N711 It should be about gameplay innovation, ya know? Making an age old genre, fresh and exiting ?. Not going from cut-scene to gameplay seamlessly ! Or laying pre-set plans/set pieces for a player to watch or play out. RYSE did that 6months ago, and it was still a dung experience!
speechless. Please don't delay it.
@Davros79 well I like what I see so far and if I find Uncharted 4 with same gameplay no innovation whatsoever than the usual uncharted games but with fantastic graphics and story I ll be very happy
Edit : on topic Im impressed as I was with the first gameplay by how realistic it feels
Uncharted games are just basic 3rd person shooters, gameplay isnt the best but the story/set pieces/acting make them phenomenal.
Could be exactly the same for this.
Yeah but in uncharted you had the agility of an ape! Hanging/climbing , it also had some very thoughtfull puzzle elements as well as stealth sections, not to mention hand-to-hand combat. I dont see this gameplay variation from the order.....(YET). It is also wrong (IMO) to call the uncharted series "basic 3rd person shooters" infact you Couldn't be further from the truth. Anyway uncharted is a action adventure game, just like tomb raider is . Its not a pure cover shooter, like gears of war, spec ops the line and dare i say the order 1886 are !!
Wait till they release more about a game before you judge it jeez....perhaps sony only released a 2 min trailer to combat the sunset overdrive and halo guardians announcement.....ill be buying this game day 1 who doesn't want to play in a steam punk Victorian setting
A delay into 2015 probably wouldn't hurt it. And add multiplayer.
@OnlyGrant
People are going to react to what they see though and unfortunately what's on display here isn't overly impressive (unless we're talking only about the visuals, which are excellent). It looks like a typical cover third person shooter only without multiplayer. That's not saying the final product can't be great, but the stuff shown so far has been pretty average.
I think this looks terrible in a Crysis on consoles kind of way. The shaders, models, animation, and effects look INCREDIBLE, but....the framerate is abysmal. Like, really, REALLY bad. I hope they improve it.
@kupo Andrea Pessino on Twitter:
Thanks everyone! Oh, and the frame rate is actually VERY nice, do not blame us for streaming issues please… : )
There is no tearing when you play the game and if any ever shows up we will squash it. ; )
What a wonderful new IP! Excellent acting. Trailer had me on edge of my seat. I can imagine myself fighting through olde London and then battling the horrors of the night. Atmosphere looks sumptuous. Blockbuster movie and game rolled seamlessly into one. This is my no.1 wanted game for ps4. Can't flipping wait!
Dat potion.
The best graphics i have seen thus far. I just hope the game offers more than just shooting in a linear fashion.
They did say that there will be some exploration sections where you'll be able to interact with the locals.....so i guess you could say i am pretty excited.
@Savino yeah but the uncharted 's did at least, have some form of multi-player. To keep you entertained after you've finished the story. Which is more than can be said of certain upcoming games!!
Well considering that pretty much half the games on the market these days are pretty shooters I think I'll take this one. The setting alone makes it more interesting for me than any Call of Duty.
I wish the person playing this game would have moved round the environment or even cover to cover a bit more!! He literally stood behind a wall shooting and then que the scripted moments.
Some people do realize this was recorded from a twitch stream and then uploaded to YouTube? The screen tearing etc is not a fault of the game, the dev already stated this on Twitter.
@Davros79 Surely the seamless transitions between gameplay and cut-scenes are innovative. TLOU did it, but this appears to have taken it one step further. You are playing a move/a story. If it works the immersion will be intense. I'm excited and I hope they pull it off.
I understand different people like different types of games, but that type of story led game appeals to me. I wish there were more of them.
@Ginkgo "the last of us did it" thats why is NOT innovative !!!! Thats my point, I've / We've seen it before . My interpretation of innovation is something "new" .Whats yours? Gameplay innovation is what im after. I've played Ryse on on xbox 1 which is still the best looking nextgen game to date, pure cinematic beauty,it didnt stop the gameplay from being tedious though...
@Davros79 You seem to have missed my further comment "this appears to have taken it one step further". With TLOU, there was still a graphical difference between gameplay and cut-scene. yes, TLOU transitions were smooth, but with what I see here for The Order, and also what they have said, they are aiming for zero graphical difference between cut-scenes and gameplay, and there are lots of tiny cut-scenes inter-dispersed through out the gameplay sections. The point is that the two jump in and out seamlessly, which becomes part of the experience. The action doesn't stop (pre se) for a cut-scene, they are integrated. That idea excites me, and is a cinematic game that I am interested in playing. And,yes, I think it is innovative. Same way Watch_Dog melding of single and multiplayer is innovative.
Clearly, I haven't played The Order, only seen snippets. I like what I see, but who knows, the game may be boring. (just not my expectation). I haven't played Rise, but I really don't think the two are similar. Time will tell.
I am curious to know what sort of gameplay innovation you are after. What floats your boat?
@Ginkgo yes mate We've only seen snippets so far. So maybe I'm being harsh. But you can only judge what you see right? My comparison with RYSE is because places so much emphasis on cinematic graphics/camera angles, that the gameplay, character movement ,had to be stripped down and gameplay became very linear and basic as a consequence. I hope E3 shows more variation in gameplay, cos i ( like everyone) am desperate for the order to be great!
I was interested when first hearing of the game, but now that I've seen a few gameplay videos and read some more details, I've lost interest.
I dont really care about the resolution or fps, but going back to a chest-high wall TPS is not in the cards for me. Add to that multiple-choice QTEs and the lack of any splitscreen/mp in what looked like a squad game and well.....hopefully Sony has new PS4 games to announce that are hitting Q3 and Q4 2014.
It's slowly feeling like big developers are slinking into these really generic gameplay concepts and just adding some sort of "new-gen" paint by way of whatever buzz words are popular.
