Better hunker down in that megaton bomb shelter of yours, because the fallout from this particular delay is likely going to rage on for weeks to come. As many predicted it would, PlayStation 4 shooter The Order: 1886 has been delayed into 2015, meaning that Sony appears to be left solely with DriveClub as its main exclusive title going into the holidays.
"To deliver that experience that we've wanted, and that we hope players expect, we're targeting an early 2015 release on the game," developer Ready at Dawn's Ru Weerasuriya told Game Informer. "We're really trying to hone in on getting the whole game to that level of polish," the creative director continued. After the release's two minute gameplay teaser divided opinions, it's perhaps a good job that the Victorian adventure is getting more time in the oven.
With the title now slated for release in the early months of 2015, are you shaving off your spectacular facial hair in disappointment? How do you think that the PS4 will fare without the Order's backup? Tell us just how doomed Sony is in the comments section below.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
{oh well, at least I have 20+ games in my backlog to get through in the mean time ]
Wipe those tears, heres the box art. 2015 known as next gen year, 2014 remasters, teasers towards delays. cross-gen games and ports. And maybe just a next gen exclusive or two.
"Tell us just how doomed Sony is in the comments section below." Brilliant @shogunrok No doubt a few will turn up to do just that Personally, Im not too fussed. I am really looking forward to the game but Its not like there's no games coming in the later section of the year. Id rather the game was delayed than end up with something that falls short of what it set out to do due to a lack of polish.
@MadchesterManc Before that happens. Since its delayed get ready for people bemoaning the PS4 first year exclusive line up. I said it time and again that a platform doesn't solely need to rely on first/second parties nor can it survive without third parties (See Vita, Wii U etc.). Its an distinction at best that some people need to choose platforms, but if you were to look at buying habits on the NPD/UK/Media Create (lesser extent for this) and you will see who is more dominant in buyer choice.
This Christmas is absolutely jam packed already. It doesn't matter how good The Order is, it won't be able to compete with Assassin's Creed, Batman, Far Cry, Destiny, Assassin's Creed, etc. Best to put it out early next year, and use the extra few months to really make sure it shines.
I'm disappointed because I want to play it, but it's really not the end of the world.
"but it's really not the end of the world." Give it time
to be honest xbox is looking pretty good in the exclusive category compared to Sony right now.. with games like sunset overdrive and quantum break coming in 2014 and also not sure if fable is this year or not ? but yeah.. including what I'm sure is going to be a huge e3 for them I can start to see xbox getting back into the fight!
which of course is nothing but good for gamers. The stiffer the competition between the two rival consoles the better the consumer fares out! I am so pumped to be a gamer right now because there's so many exciting things coming. I really do love my ps4 and xbox one, they're great machines but their potential hasn't even begun to be shown yet.
Starting in September with destiny, and going forward through all of 2015 gamers are in for one hell of a ride
As long as its only a few months later (3/4 months) really not the end of the world. Same as the witcher I can't do anything about it anyway so I ll just pick it up when its ready. Also I think everybody should keep in mind how many years and efforts it takes and respect the devs
I can wait
some people really need to learn patience but I guess that's part of the problem with modern culture they expect everything right now because they get what they want given to them on a platter
try growing up in a family with very little money, where you was lucky if you got one game a YEAR and you will soon learn that having to wait for a computer game is no big deal
@MadchesterManc Agreed
@get2sammyb 100% agree, I'm really beginning to like the idea and potential plot for The Order that I think it's wise of them to take a few extra months to get it right.
Gods damn it....the games I'm really looking forward to always get delayed....I understand them wanting to put out the best game they can tho.
This doesn't affect me because I'd rather it be good and I have way too much to play right now anyway on my ps3. But this is starting to look bad on sony. They need a killer E3.
I'm glad a lot of these games are getting delayed so it gives me time to complete other games and really get into them and enjoy it more instead of rushing to finish them because a new game is getting released
@mitcHELLspawn Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break face the exact same problem that The Order would have if it came out at Christmas — it's a check box in the exclusive list wars, but realistically none of these brands stand a chance against the other commercial juggernauts coming out in September, October, and November.
I don't mind(i want it bad tho) + When i bought my PS4(on/at launch) i knew that there wouldn't be a 'AAA' PS4 Exclusive coming out every month for it I just don't get why other people think there would of been 100's of Exclusives in it's 1st year out because there has never been a game console which has had 100's of Exclusives out in it's 1st year to + No one seems to moan about the lack of any games for the Xbox ONE since it came out to?(the PS4 has had more games for it with all the cool indie games so far)
@get2sammyb I'm not so sure about that. people with next gen consoles are starved for content at this point. Especially with the big holidays in December you always see a huge jump in game purchases. I feel as though these games are still going to sell decent, just not as fast as they would if they were launching say in the summer. The more games that come out for the platform, especially being exclusive, the more consoles they're going to sell.
Sonys in a great position being the early leader, but they really have their work cut out for them because xbox is most definitely in it to win it, and they are going to bring the content. Whether they're developing it themselves with their 1st party studios like Black tusk or if they have to just fork out huge sums of money to keep certain things off the rival consoles, they will be most definitely pulling out all the stops necessary to even this console war up.. and like I said, the real winners are us the gamers. Even the guys that don't have an xbox and are total playstation fanboy 3.0 and would jump in front of a bullet for their ps4.. lol even those guys benefit from xbox going as hard as they are. It keeps Sony on their toes and makes them continue to push the best possible value and games.
@get2sammyb hey man this is a little off topic from my reply, but I was just curious.. so I noticed that for wolfenstein as well as watch dogs, this site didn't have a review ready for when the embargo lifted.. I was just wondering so do you guys not get access to review copies of games? if not I think that's total bull crap. I find this site becoming more and more my goto site for great opinion pieces, reviews (albeit later than other sites) and just a generally awesome community. I see you guys get quite a bit of regular traffic, so I'm wondering.. why the heck aren't you guys getting early review copies ! I most definitely think you deserve them.
Hey Guys and Gals,
LISTEN UP!!!!!
The PS4 has several exclusives on the way this year that make the MS exclusives not look that great!
1st, Last of US Remastered will be very popular I myself will be picking this one up. It will sell several million copies and give Xbox players who came over to the PS4 a chance to experience Naughty Dog greatness.
2nd, Planetside 2 will dominate online FPS battles like it does on the PC. This will come out this summer and off F2P experience like no other on consoles. MS is very afraid of this game because some have likened to a HALO killer or at the very least a serious knockdown punch by SOE.
3rd, H1Z1 will offer an incredible survival zombie experience later this year (maybe spring 2015).
4th, DriveClub will do very well as a driving game. I appreciate the fact that Sony allows their developers to take their time to perfect a game as much as possible before releasing it.
5th, Everquest Next will be very popular on PS4 and PC.
6th, SingStar is coming later this year. It has already sold over 26 million copies and has made tens of millions for Sony.
7th, Little Big Planet Hub is going to be cool. I enjoyed the trailer shown last year.
8th, Sony Studios are working on several mystery games that will come out this year and next year. MS can’t compete with Sony in regards to first party development.
9th, Indies support will continue to get bigger and bigger. Sony has done everything possible to bring as many great indie games as possible to the PS4.
Finally I just want to say isn’t it better that Sony doesn’t force their developers to rush titles like EA and MS does. Sony allows their developers to take their time and make the best possible games they can.
Cheers!!!
Viva Sony and Sony Gamers!!!
Rob aka Graf
P.S. I forgot to mention War Thunder the F2P game enjoyed by PS4 owners in Europe is coming soon to NA. Uh, also Shadow of the Beast coolness!!!
@Carl-G
Nobody has asked for 100 exclusives a month, but more than a 30 frames per second racer that was supposed to be a launch game should've happened. Sony's first parties did not have it together at all for the start of this generation and it's pathetic, even PS3's first year, while slow, wasn't this bad as far as exclusives. The only thing saving them is that, yes, MS hasn't done much either, though I'd take Sunset Overdrive any day over Drive Club, but the interesting exclusives for both consoles all seem to be 2015, with a chance to get pushed into 2016. Holding out slight hope for Quantum Break but MS has been more secretive with that game than Sony had been with The Order. The one thing potentially saving these consoles is it looks like third parties will get their games out on time, but it's going to have to be Batman and AC Unity that really deliver because cross-generational games like Far Cry 4, Destiny and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare will only be so good. At this point I don't care which company delivers it, I'd just like some kind of game that makes me feel the upgrade was worth it. I think Arkham Knight and Unity can do that but we'll see.
As far as getting back on topic. I expected the delay for The Order because that gameplay video they showed wasn't that great and there did seem to be a lot of mixed reaction. It's probably not going to happen but it would be awesome when it's re-revealed if we got multiplayer.
My problem isn't with developers taking their time to make a game, its the delays. These companies have been in this industry long enough to (more) accurately forecast project development times. People choose to purchase a system at a certain point in time knowing not only what games are available now but also for games that have been given a release date. If games are being held back due to cramped holiday seasons or false release dates are given to persuade buyers to purchase early (driveclub) then its a disgrace. This is deception. This may seem a little extreme but consumer manipulation is something that many law makers spend hours devising laws to help protect us. Companies need to be held accountable for their actions, not excused. The right and responsible thing for these companies to do would be to hold off on a release date until they know it will be achieved so consumers can make INFORMED decisions on when to make a purchase.
If consumers stopped buying games that were delayed (or buggy of course), do you think you would see a reduction in delays?
Consumers have power but we are making excuses for the same companies deceiving us.
Hmm I'm starting to think I should wait for the PS4 model 2 by that point there should be games I want to play.
@Jazzer94
I'm as disappointed with Sony's first party teams as anybody, but is there really no third party stuff you'd be looking forward to at the end of the year? If nothing else Batman: Arkham Knight and AC Unity should be a nice way to close the year, then hopefully The Witcher 3 makes it in early 2015. It is beyond ridiculous with the amount of studios it has that there aren't at least a couple more Sony exclusives though.
This is why I don't buy consoles without backwards compatibility in their first year of life. Developers need time to learn how to effectively develop for the hardware, and delays happen.
Looks like no matter what system this generation you got at launch, you are doing a lot of waiting for enough good games to be released.
I think the days of me buying a system day 1 are over. Hype train is best to be ignored.
@Gamer83 There definitely are 3rd party games I want to play like Batman: Arkham Knight but I think waiting will payoff more at this point, I've got the Wii U which is getting some solid releases that should keep me occupied till 2015 like Mario Kart 8, Bayonetta 2, X (hopefully) and Super Smash Bros. 4 so I might as well wait for the console to get cheaper and with Playstation home consoles the second model seems to always be the best.
@Jazzer94
Yeah, if you got a Wii U as well as a PS3 or 360 that should be good for now. It'll be interesting to see if Sony or MS plans on putting out a redesigned console next year. If nothing else, a new sku with a bigger harddrive would be nice, 500 GB goes pretty quick with the file size of these games. PS4 installs the games very quickly so if I have to it's not too much of a hassle to delete games I'm not playing but it'd be cool to have some more space anyway so that it's not an issue at all.
@mitcHELLspawn Thanks for reading. With regards to the review copies, we do, but those two games in particular have been, well, challenging to track down prior to release. I could talk at length about this, but I won't. The best thing that you can do to help us in this area is to continue commenting and reading, and hopefully publishers will pay attention.
@get2sammyb
Publishers actually give a crap what people in the comment section have to say? Some of them could've fooled me.
@Gamer83 Thats what I'm hoping for either a 1TB model or a new design that has a bit better build quality like the PS3 slim.
Ok, my PS4 looks farther away then. I hope the game delivers in the end.
@GrafUlrich88 I don't understand why people waste their time trying to promote their preferred console on everysite . Its not as if it makes any difference anyway the truth is good games are coming on both and its a matter of preference.
To be honest I like playstation but don't really care about Sony and even less M$ as long as PS is successfull enough, if a guy gets an xbone instead of a PS4 its not my problem
@get2sammyb you got it man! You guys keep giving the goods and I'll be here haha but no really for playstation news this site is my goto place 100% I love it. I haven't really found the equivalent for xbox news, I know there's pure xbox but I don't find it anywhere near as good as this site. actually I use majornelsons blog when I want to comment and talk xbox.. but yeah keep up the great work, I hope these publishers wake up soon and start forking over the review copies
@eLarkos I couldn't have said it better myself, man! I was saying this exact same thing to a friend recently. I know the industry has always had delays, but the last year or so has just been absolutely ridiculous.. and I feel it is because of these new consoles trying to build the hype for them, and people are buying the consoles with the idea in their head that they would be able to play certain games at certain times and it just ends up not happening.
you're totally right, these developers have been doing this for long enough. they are professionals and they should be able to gage when their game is going to be ready to goto market.. and the fact that so many AAA studios are missing launch dates is just scary.
I think the division in particular is a really good example because there was leaks from inside the company very early on saying that there was absolutely no way that game was going to be ready for 2014. Hell they've even come forward again saying that they think 2015 is even a stretch. So obviously these developers know they're not going to make these dates, but they're still throwing them out there half hazardly like it's no big deal...
yup.. definitely a huge pet peeve of mine lol
@get2sammyb - " it won't be able to compete with Assassin's Creed, Batman, Far Cry, Destiny, Assassin's Creed, etc.'
But isn't PS3 getting about half of those? I don't think PS4's problem is a lack of games, its a lack of next gen only games. I would guess many people who own a PS4 own a PS3.
I don't think people should judge the holiday before E3. PS4 could still get The Last Guardian. And Beyond Good and Evil 2?
Though I don't think The Order is doing itself any favors releasing too close to MGSV.
@rjejr
I think it's safe to rule out The Last Guardian. Could still get something for PS4 but I'm not expecting anything big. Maybe a major indie game that surprises people who don't like those kind of releases at all, but I'm not counting a major 'AAA' release but I'd love it Sony proves me wrong. There's really no urgency though because with Forza 5 already on the market, Halo 5 a year away and Gears 4 even further the big exclusive for MS besides Sunset Overdrive, which may or may not be a hit, is probably going to be that Master Chief Compliation. Nintendo could quietly sneak in there with the best exclusives for the holiday but missing Batman, Far Cry 4, AC Unity and maybe AC all together hurts it.
@get2sammyb If only "early next year" ever was that. Typically "early next year" means holiday of the following year. No way this and all the other delayed games are coming q1 or 2 of 2015. They'll end up holiday releases of 15 or 16. The release schedule every year is horribly unbalanced.
This just proves that these nextgen consoles came out a year too early. This game is 128 years late Sony ! !
@Punished_Boss @get2sammyb Goes out comes back to 40+ comment section
Heh, The Next Guardian. I'll buy that alongside a new copy of Half-Life 3.
@Ralizah Don't forget Agent and Final Fantasy XV
Well it's always good to really polish up a game so it's the best quality possible. I mean that should kind of be the goal from the outset though, rather than hype the game up way too early.
It could hurt Sony's side of the sales race this holiday season though, the other two can steal their thunder by releasing lots of primo software.
@rjejr Some are, some aren't. I agree with what you're saying. I still think that given the choice between an unproven IP such as The Order or the aforesaid brands, the majority of consumers will pick the latter. That's why I think this delay may actually work in the game's favour - from a sales perspective, at least!
@mitcHELLspawn Thanks. Make sure you give Pure Xbox a look, too - they're a great bunch of guys and gals.
@Gamer83 It's not so much that, more that the better metrics (comments, users, page views) we have, the more access we can get from publishers.
I'll be buying a PS4 in 2015 it seems!
I wonder if any of these delays are related to the rumoured performance boost supposedly in the works from Team ICE?
I wasn't all that interested in The Order anyways. KH3 is the only reason I will get a PS4. That will probably be 2016-2018, based on how fast SE is at making GOOD games...
Future titles in 2014 I've pre-ordered (or will as soon as it's listed) ALREADY consists of:
Batman Arkham Knight
Last of Us Remastered
Shadow of Mordor
Dragon Age Inquisition
Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
Assassin's Creed Unity
Far Cry 4
Lords of the Fallen
Metro Redux
Mario Kart 8
Watch Dogs
Bayonetta 2
Smash Bros (both versions)
Hyrule Warriors
Xenoblade 2
Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby
Sunset Overdrive
Halo Masterchief Collection (maybe)
And that's a pre-E3 list. Goodness knows I am NOT concerned with The Order being pushed back until next year. And my wallet is definitely grateful, that's for sure.
@JaxonH DAMN you're a busy gamer!
@SecondServing
There's a lot of great games out there- I like to play em all.
The one game I'm SEVERELY regretting that I won't be able to play is Borderlands Pre-Sequel. Heck I may have to go re-buy a PS3 just for that. Thing is, I have no more room to connect any more consoles.
This don't bother me at all!! Roll on 9/9/14 for Destiny!!!
@get2sammyb - "given the choice between an unproven IP such as The Order or the aforesaid brands"
Don't forget Metal Gear Sold V: The Phantom Pain, also rumoured to be due early 2015.
http://www.technobuffalo.com/2014/03/18/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain-due-for-early-2015-release/
@Gamer83 - "I think it's safe to rule out The Last Guardian."
Yeah I know, but nobody had mentioned it in like 3 whole days.
That vaporware probably gets discussed more on PushSquare that at Sony HQ.
@N711 Hey thanks for your comment.
I use to have a Xbox and Xbox 360. I had Xbox Live for nearly 10 years and it was good for a while, but then M$ started getting greedy upping the cost several times and then changing and changing the Xbox 360 Dashboard so that it was Kinect friendly, not user friendly. I hated all the advertisements and clutter. They took a great dashboard (2009 version, previous versions were ok) and turned it in to crap. I felt like why so much advertising we are paying for a Xbox Live Gold, shouldn't Silver members be forced to have these on there dashboard.
M$ just kept adding more and more advertising and they basically seem to say "We don't care, because know we have you hooked on Xbox Live and were going to keep increasing the cost and adding more commercials and you will just have to deal with it. HAHA!!!"
Sony even now has very little advertising, a couple movies, and E3 presented by Klondike bars. That's it! I guarantee M$ has tons of advertising on their dashboard because they know that they can get away with it. I want to say Xbots who support this and say well M$ is just trying to make some extra money to help our network are idiots. M$ is already charging $60 a year and making millions off advertising. Is the Xbox 360 and Xbox One a game machine or a set top box?
I left M$ and became a Sony supporter because I feel they have really changed in a great way. Sony isn't perfect but I now that my PS4 is a game machine, not an extension of my DirecTV box.
Cheers!!!
Rob aka Graf
@GrafUlrich88 hi yea I mostly agree with you. . Was just trying to say some people bother too much
I've got PS4 PS3 and vita and happy about it. I find absolutely nothing exciting In the Xbone. Have fun
@N711 Thanks again for the nice reply.
I hope we will hear some great news from E3.
Have a great week!
Cheers!!!
Rob aka Graf
Shame it's been delay but it's probably a good thing.
@rjejr @Gamer83 Take it with a grain of salt there are rumors that say Last Guardian will come out winter 2014 who knows maybe Last Guardian will replace The Order as the third big AAA ps4 exclusive to come out this year
@Paranoimia Thats a good point. Team ICE have been beavering away for a while now with the Ps4 API's and theres the occasional update of info via Twitter. Shame no gaming outlets take interest in the work of Team ICE & the work they do in ensuring Sony's first-party studios have the tools they need.
@AeroZeppelin
I hope for the people who have been waiting for the The Last Guardian that the rumor is true.
