Sony’s flagship portable platform may have barely received a mention during the platform holder’s E3 2014 press conference yesterday, but at least the firm hasn’t forgotten about the PlayStation Vita entirely. This brand new trailer shows off a bunch of the titles set to release on the handheld over the coming months, including Freedom Wars, Akiba’s Trip: Undead and Undressed, and Velocity 2X.
Alright, it may not be brimming with the blockbusters that you crave, but there’s some really good stuff here, and while a lot of the games on display are available elsewhere, many of them are titles that this particular author would prefer to play on the commercially challenged console. Which of the releases in this sizzle trailer are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments section below.

Either Sony has moved on and will rarely push a AAA Vita title or they are hiding a couple of big guns somewhere. I hope for the latter. Either way I enjoy the system. I use remote play enough to enjoy AAA games so I will survive. One thing I would like would be if the Vita itself could function as a PlayStation TV so I don't have to buy another device. I don't see pushing the Remote Play to a WiFi TV as too difficult a task. I'll admit, I haven't looked into the technical aspect of this but it would be nice.
Also, some of these games are worthy and Vita has an extensive library so Sony needs to change the perception of this little marvel. The big franchises will eventually come.
I'm looking foward to alot of games tales of heart r,shante half genie,Invizimals: The Alliance,freedom wars,lego batman 3,ratchet and clank hd port,Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus Limited Edition,arcana heart 3 love max,Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed,Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1,one piece red world and more so yea plus my backlog of 30+ vita games and 30+ps3 games I'm good for a couple of years lol
Its all over. Vita is dead.
I held out for a new trailer for Gravity Rush 2. Didn't work out super great. Hoping for some stuff at GamesCom or TGS.
@Punished_Boss did you look at the games I want that's alot of games coming out this year....plus we still have gamescom, and tgs this year so still time
They should have shown this trailer during their conference, cause I actually interested in alot of those titles, but Tale of Hearts R most of all!
That's a decent amount to keep me going for next 12 months. Freedom wars looks like triple AAA to me. Minecraft will last forever! Where's dangan ronpa 2, monster hunter G, toukiden extra and phantasy star nova!?
@tonyp1987 Maybe he meant that Sony failed to give the support that it needs for the handheld.
@Enobmah_Shards true but there's alot coming but I still want games like gta,new in,new gow,new ratchet, ff type 0, gt, even remake dark cloud 1&2
Sony changing the name of "Vita TV" to "PS TV" is not a promising sign of them having lots of AAA Vita games under wraps.
On the bright side, I dont have to ask how many of these will be playable on Vita TV since no such device exists outside of Japan.
Freedom Fighters should be insulted being in that video.
Wow, that's a lot of interesting upcoming games! the only bummer is that FF-Type 0 is not coming to Vita. But that's Square Enix, so not surprising..
Tales of Hearts R and Freedom Wars were the only ones they showed that I'm looking forward to...there's also, One Piece, but that's a GS exclusive.
Indie
Except indie it is senran kagura, akiba strip, tales of hearts, freedom wars all jp games. i love them and day one for them
For western, its indie or none...
Sony websites with all accounts will hack soon be careful and take out your money
hackers will do that for vita low support
Vita is not dead. There are a lot of japanese games coming out. Not a lot, but.... I also looking forward to Phantasy Star Nova, for example. Single player oriented Phantasy Star from tri-Ace, OMG.
64 GB Memory card.
Where?
So many games coming out that might be digital-only.
Sadly, I think 3DS may have finally killed Vita once and for all. I was only interested in two games: Minecraft and Freedom Wars. Everything else was either meh, or available on other consoles...damn...
I know Sony said AAA development isn't viable on the Vita, but seeing as they sold it with the premise of "home console on the move", they should have at least made one AAA to show off - if for no reason other than to satisfy those people that invested in their machine thinking Sony would deliver on their own sales pitch...
Wonder where Gravity Rush 2 is?
My favorite part was when they didn't lower the price of memory cards. Guess I still won't be playing much on my Vita, even if there was something to play on it.
All I want for the vita is a Monster Hunter game for it!!!! Not a port of an old on or something like Monster Hunter Frontier. No I want at least Monster Hunter 5 to be on the Vita!! Please
Vita has been a dead man walking since the start. Sony just don't get handheld consoles. The way they're now just almost ignoring it is sad. Best we all just enjoy it while we have it rather than moaning or arguing whether it is dead or not.
@Thegamingzombie More chance of finding Atlantis under your pillow than a brand new Monster Hunter going on Vita. Capcom aren't idiots, they know 3DS is the place for it.
Their wasting the hardware's Capability
I'll still use it for the indies like the sequel to Velocity. And I'll get Freedom Wars and Gravity Rush 2 but I'm firmly of the belief that Sony needs to slowly phase the machine out and put the focus strictly on PS4. As much as I'm looking forward to Gravity Rush 2, I can only imagine how much more hyped I'd be if it was a PS4 game. Higher production values, even more terrific visuals, possibly a bigger world to explore and with the Dualshock 4 having a touchpad some of the controls from Vita.
@Dodoo
My dream would be that GR 2 has been made into a PS4 game and that will be revealed at TGS, but that's probably too good to be true.
e3 did absolutely NOTHING for me regarding the vita
all i have to look forward to is Freedom Wars, a game that was announced a while ago
if only sony tried as hard with the vita as nintendo did with the wiiu
Great line-up. I prefer lots of smaller games instead of so-called triple A titles. Looking forward to the FTP titles too.
@Punished_Boss I completely agree. Its just now having a long lingering death while they shove indie games on it. There won't be any AAA titles and eventually it will be pulled from sale completely.
Well , to go with the 'fashionable' mood around : I love my dead Vita which has tons of great games for it
@tonyp1987 I am not believing in false hope:
The platform holder had officially dumped it. There are no AAA games. No major advertisement. Neglect at every possible opportunity. Its as good as dead, not to say there aren't any games but nothing will save it now.
This is worse then I expected, Freedom Wars, Heart R and maybe Minecraft poor absolutely poor funny and ironic I guess can't have Vita without death but I never saw it ending like this with a whimper and not a bang.
Theres plenty coming from Japanese 3rd party studios, with the odd 1st party game too, that Im gonna keep walking by in ignorant bliss playing games on my Vita while others cry salty tears into their latte's due to a lack of AAA console quality experiances on the handheld. Sure Sony aren't supporting the console like they did in that first year, but then all those AAA titles released on the Vita in its first year didnt bring home the bacon now did it? Lacklustre sales in the west, even with AAA games, and an increase in sales for Japan means we are at the situation we are now. At least we have a device where Indie & Niche titles can thrive without being crushed by much bigger AAA productions like we have on other consoles. Gotta see the positives in any situation Sony aren't really supporting Vita with many exclusive games, its borderline dead - but the wealth of Indie & Niche titles means it still has a place for myself.
@Thegamingzombie Better get a 3DS for Monster Hunter then.
Topic: I am extremely disappointed with Sony on how they're treating the Vita. Not one Vita game announced. They could have at least shown off new trailers for games already announced like Freedom Wars. They only spent like 1 freaking minute on the Vita. Yeah, Sony doesn't give a **** about Vita. I still do love this "dead" machine tho. The indie games are good but we need more.
I think I'll stick with my Moto X and bluetooth gamepad. The Play Store has a better line up than that...
No Gravity Rush 2? Then eff you, Sony!
Honestly, I thought this was a pretty dang good video. The games shown may not have been 'AAA'... But really what exactly constitutes AAA in the world of handheld gaming? What only matters is if the games look fun - and these games did indeed look fun. Counter Spy, Mech Runner and Akiba's Trip looked particularly cool. Also, the Vita is getting proven indie hits like Child of Light and Hyper Light Drifter... Pretty cool, as far as I'm concerned.
The sad thing is that it does have AAA games coming. I call both Freedom Wars and Gravity Rush 2 as AAA games. It also had Borderlands, FFX and Football Manager released this year all three AAA games.
It is a case of a desire to knock the Vita and shoddy journalism. Rather than doing what it should be and promoting the machine the industry journalists are more interested in getting page hits for knocking it - the same fate has hit the Wii U as well.
@rjejr I'm really glad you brought this up. When I was watching the conference I was like "wait...wasn't it called vita tv?"
Once again Sony decided to throw the vita backstage somewhere instead of giving it any kind of spotlight. At least have some event that will highlight vita games even if it's separate from the main conference. Have a little digital event or something just for the Vita lineup like Nintendo did. They continued making Vita look like an accessory for the PS4 instead of treating it like it's own system. Figuring owners will just stream PS4 games instead of purchasing single games for it.
I think if the Vita is going to get new major games then they will probably be announced at gamescom & tgs cos I believe in those markets the Vita sells better compared to U.S.
Man who's kidding themselves here? This is straight GARBAGE. They have given up on the Vita, and not just the Vita, but the 7 million fans who bought one, including schmucks like me that loyally purchased one at launch.
Hmmm, what do I have coming to Vita to play? Let's see, there's Freedom Wars (which BY THE WAY, doesn't have a physical release confirmed in NA yet, might be digital only) and there's Natural Doctrine, and there's the mythical Gravity Rush 2 that wasn't even shown and only exists on paper. Wow, what a phenomenal lineup. And to think I actually believed Sony was going to turn a new leaf this E3 and refocus their efforts on their handheld. Oh how I was wrong.
Needless to say, I am NOT happy with Sony right now. I can't imagine too many Vita owners are.
Oh well, I'm not gonna let this ruin my E3. But it is a lesson learned.
They should've showed this in the E3 conference rather than the free to play and powers segments, I cringed at both.
@JaxonH
I'm hoping it's a lesson learned not just for consumers, but Sony as well, stick to where you excel, which is the home market. I have a Vita as well but not disappointed by this at all, if it benefits PS4 in the long run. Studios like Bend or Japan are too talented to waste on a market Sony isn't great in.
@Gamer83
But they're Sony. They shouldn't be backing down conceding defeat, screwing all the millions of people who bought a Vita in the process. They should be UP to the challenge. TAKE that marketshare. EARN their place. PSP did respectably, but what, 2 bad years with Vita and they give up? You don't see Nintendo backing down giving up on home consoles just cause of the Wii U. In fact, they doubled down and delivered the best E3 presentation and Wii U lineup I've seen my entire life. Sony could have, and SHOULD have, done the same.
@JaxonH
Nintendo is also in a better financial situation than Sony and has a richer tradition in the home market than Sony does in handhelds. And I'm not sure Sony 'gets' handheld gaming, it's pretty clear from sales numbers the mass market doesn't think it does, so I'd rather see a focus on doing extremely well in one area, than spreading over two areas. As strong as PS3 came on in the second part of last gen, I can't help but wonder if maybe it couldn't have done even a bit better if Bend and Ready at Dawn hadn't been stuck making things for PSP. Syphon Filter was great on PSP, on PS3 with the extra horsepower, it could've been outstanding. Sony's games are just better suited to the home market so I'm not going to lament this at all, in fact what I've been asking for, for the last year seems to be happening. Turn the Vita into more of an indie device, slowly phase it out, give the PS3 a little love here and there but put the spotlight almost solely on the PS4.
I love my PS Vita system and I'm angry as heck at those who suggest the Vita needs to be "faded out". The PS Vita is not a terrible system at all and it needs to be given time to continue to grow. Seriously, there are already great titles on Vita such as Mind Zero, Killzone Mercenary, Demon Gaze, Guacamelee, Dragon's Crown, Muramasa, Assassin's Creed Liberation and Persona 4 Golden. The upcoming list of PS Vita games is impressive; Freedom Wars, MLB 14, Helldivers, Hyper Light Difter, Gravity Rush 2, Disgaea 4, Dragon Fin Soup, Shantae Half Genie Hero, Foul Play, Pavillion , Child of Light and Don't Starve are just a few of the examples of the awesome titles on the way to the PS Vita in 2014 and 2015.
