Despite developer Evolution Studios being one of the frontrunners in Sony’s ill-fated 3D push on the PlayStation 3, the studio has opted not to support the platform holder’s latest gimmick – virtual reality headset Project Morpheus – in its upcoming game DriveClub. Legend has it that the company did build a compatible demo for the racer, but it caused Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida to feel sick, so support was scrapped.
However, speaking as part of an interview with Red Bull, game director Paul Rustchynsky admitted that he’s personally very excited for the technology – and the developer’s definitely experimenting with it behind-the-scenes. “Project Morpheus is a fantastic piece of hardware, and it’s something that really excites me as a gamer,” he said. “Evolution Studios has a dedicated team who have been working on it from day one, so we have a keen eye on it.”
Alas, what kind of game would you like the British-based outfit to make with the wearable device? The manufacturer’s said that the fast-paced nature of racing titles don’t necessarily work well in virtual reality, so it may need to step out of its comfort zone. Either that, or it could concoct some kind of seriously effective motion sickness simulator.

They might have to start out simple but creating a VR game that is addicting. Slowly pushing it more and more for different games. You have to find that sweet spot for Virtual Reality otherwise you may feel sick if something is implement wrong for such a experience, just like what happened to Yoshida.
I have just spent the night playing on the oculus rift and it is amazing. As long as the frame rate was at least 30 I had no problems with dizziness or sickness. Even playing radial G which is super fast racing around tubular roads was no problem. The games just need to be implemented properly and the lenses and distance set up to suit you. So much fun, I am going to order a DK2 tomorrow and start making games on unity. Well excited. Can't wait to get it. Even third person was ok once you get into it. Really looking forward to the near future of virtual reality.
I'm just counting the days until the technology in Sword Art Online becomes real. With stuff like MUSE coming out lately it doesn't seem too far off. Possibly even within the next decade we might see true virtual reality.
So the driveclub version for morpheus; we only have yoshida's experience and opinion? I'll say it again who cares if an old man got sick playing a racing game in VR, all games should have the options to be used with VR and devs should have the option to bother to make it work. Of course first party games may have to lead on this. Why is/would Sony suddenly be so bothered about quality control.
