This particular editor may have been lost at sea and unable to steer the ‘What Are You Playing This Weekend’ ship last time around, but dry land is once again beneath your humble host’s feet, and so normal service has resumed. Not that replacement Robert Ramsey did a bad job – he actually remembered to contact the rest of the team, which is one step better than this forgetful scribe. Still, we’re sure that you’ll agree that this feature is at its absolute best when it’s hastily compiled on a Saturday evening. Right?

The upswell of positive impressions surrounding dour World War I sidescroller Valiant Hearts: The Great War convinced me to pick up the indie-inspired Ubisoft adventure this week, and in between cries of ‘there’s something in my eye’, I’m having a fascinating time with this harrowing historical affair.

Trying to find a solid team in Killzone: Shadow Fall - Intercept is like trying to buy a decent bunch of strawberries after 12PM in the summer – it doesn't happen very often. And when it does, you'll probably have to act as the cream and hold the whole squad together. It's not easy being an elite VSA trooper, but the PlayStation 4 shooter's co-op expansion proves to be a bloody good time if you can get a bunch of friends together, which is what I hope is going to happen this weekend.

Now this may sound blasphemous coming from someone that works on a PlayStation site, but I've never finished a Metal Gear Solid title – until now. In the wake of the incredible E3 gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I've powered through Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty in the past week, and I'm a few hours into Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Why Raiden? Will ‘la le li lo lu’ ever not be funny? I'm looking forward to discovering the answers to these questions and more as I continue my Kojima-themed quest this weekend.

I'm hoping to have a quick blast on R-Type Final on my PlayStation 2 if I get the chance this weekend. I really enjoyed Irem's shmup during its original release in 2004, and I may also have a flick through the game's cover feature in GamesTM Issue 6, because I doubt that a modern multiformat magazine would be able to dedicate a cover to a new R-Type title today.

This weekend, I'll be attempting to clear out as many of my unplayed PlayStation Plus freebies as I possibly can. There's a AAA storm coming, so it's imperative that I get as many of these smaller experiences out of the way before they get swept aside. In particular, I want to attempt to topple both Strider and PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate.

With my sprog staying at the grandparent's for the weekend, I can finally get a proper weekend of gaming in. With Tales of Xillia 2 looming around the corner, I plan to put a massive dent into Tales of Symphonia Chronicles. On the side, I'll finish off with a hard run of Metal Gear Rising: Revengence before it’s sacrificed for my PS4 fund.

After finally finishing Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, I've been able to break the seal on my next PlayStation Vita game. While I'm less than an hour into Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars, I have to admit that the frequent innuendo and bizarre setup hasn't quite clicked with me yet. Hopefully this will change over the weekend, though it may prove hard when the game constantly refers to the player as 'God's Gift' while exhibiting a severe case of male wish fulfilment.

I'm going to dig into ConstantC, which I hadn't been able to play until now, and hope that it delivers. I also need to finish up my Alan Wake series playthrough, which I haven't done in a while, and like to do every once in a while. [Who is this ‘Alan Wake’ that you speak of, Graham? – Ed]

This weekend, I'll be exploring the alternate reality of 1960 and blasting away Nazis and robots in Wolfenstein: The New Order. So far, the game is rock solid and breathes some fresh air into the first-person shooter genre by bringing some old-school elements into a new age. Once the campaign's done, I'll be going for the Platinum Trophy for sure.

I've finally got through some of my backlog, and that means that I can start Beyond: Two Souls. I've already spent my first two hours getting poor Jodie drunk, stoned, and snogged, and I'm excited to see what opportunities for mischief might come up next. When I've swallowed as much of David Cage's melodrama as I can stomach, I'll be turning to Final Fantasy X-2 – after all, girl bands and massage mini-games should prove the ultimate antidote to Ellen Page’s long, brooding looks into the camera.

With Valiant Hearts: The Great War winning our Game of the Month award for June, I thought that I would give it a play this weekend – I do love a good emotional story. I will also be heading back to Resogun with the new Heroes DLC. It's going to be a good weekend.
So that’s us all talked out, but what will be holding your attention over the coming days? Are you planning to spend your weekend glued to your PS4, or have you got some portable titles that you’d like to clear? Let us know in the comments section below.

whatever takes my fancy (in other words no bloody idea)
MLB 14 The Show (PS4)-My go to game for the longest time. Love it. I'm like 36-21 on my current franchise.
Pixel Junk Shooter Ultimate(PS4)- This game is a lot of fun to play. I prefer it more than Resogun personally.
Forza 5 (Xbox One)-Just got it a couple days ago. And so far I feel pretty "meh" about it. I can only do about 3-4 races before I get bored. No big deal since I only payed 20 dollars for it.
Wolfenstein The New Order (Xbox One)-This game hasn't been getting as much attention as it should because how much it frustrates me. I'm on chapter 11 or 12 I believe so I shouldn't have too much longer to go.
Still working on that. I want to play an old school RPG, but deciding which to play is a game in and of itself...
Also, props to @JamieO - R-Type Final was one heck of a gem back in the day. Few other shooters offered as much replayability, too.
Mainly Sniper Elite 3 and whatever my daughter fancies in 'co-op'
Well I just finished up my run of NintendoLife's MK8 tournament and learned that I really do suck at Mario Kart lol. Now I think a bit of World of Warcraft is in order.
Mostly been playing call of duty ghosts and football manager classic, tomorrow I'll be dabbling back in another world and perhaps MGS ground zeroes which has been gathering dust.
The Walking Dead Season 2, Killzone Mercenary, and Urban Trial Freestyle.
Battlefield 4, double xp weekend when tips up, so just playing online with mates.
Watch dogs, going to tie up all loose end and 100% the trophies.
Get some more wolfenstien completed as well.
Well, I'm actually going to dig into some backlog today and tomorrow.
PS4: Wolfenstein
Wii: Zelda Skyward Sword
3DS: Shovel Knight
Vita: Sine Mora
Wii U: Nintendo Land (Metroid Blast and Pikmin Adventure)
Xbox One: nothing
@JaxonH That's a great selection. I really should try to get back into Sine Mora; I played the first level, but never really touched it again.
Yesterday I finished Steamworld Dig, great game overall. Today I was playing some Pokémon X and Guacamelee on Wii U. Possibly I will continue with Armillo and unlock my last MK8 character, which happened to be Pink Gold Peach.
Just MLB 14 The Show on PS4.
Gravity Rush on my Vita, and maybe some Street Fighter 3 on my PS3. Then some Titanfall on my Xbox One!
And if I have some friends over then Mario Kart 8 suckas!!
Gonna be with the family over this weekend so Just Dance 2014 & Lego Marvel Super Heroes all weekend. Should be an entertaining weekend
@get2sammyb
It's a fun little game. I really like shmups and on-rail shooters (if they're done well of course).
@Not-Another-Ad Good luck with the platinum on Watch Dogs! I managed to snag myself it a couple of days ago but it took many hours of cursing the drinking game.
Starbound. Excellent little game.
@fit6958 You're a machine!
Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Burning Earth (360) - Playing this coop with my daughter.
Pixeljunk shooter and Borderlands 2, both on Vita. Both great.
Defiance on PS3 lol The show is back on TV and sucked me back into the game. Yeah its full of glitches Trion Worlds cant seem to fix it from crashing after 30min to a hour of play. but i still like the game.
@get2sammyb If I'm a machine, then you must be God!
Well my 1 day weekend just ended had a 4 hour uninterrupted blast on borderlands 2 (VITA) quite an accomplishment when you have a 5 year old and a 5 month old oh and a Mrs haha
Got a invite to the Heroes of the Storm Alpha, so I decided to take a look ad it and that was the weekend.
Hopefully I can reach level 40 before a wipe happen
I was playing Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but got distracted by Prototype 1 again.
@artemisthemp: Let me know how you like Heroes of the Storm. I have been in the Alpha for a few months now and I am enjoying it alot.
@Tasuki I enjoys it, which is why I trying to reach level 40 before the reset for the exclusive Lanyard
Mostly played Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time on Vita with a little bit of Watch Dogs on PS4 thrown in. Good times!
Ended up playing The Dark Spire on the DS. About as old-school as it gets...
@JohnKarnes I have been playing Defiance too. Saturday morning, the servers kept crashing after 5 minutes of playing, so I switched to Diablo 3 instead.
