Metro Redux PS4

An old industry folktale states that the release of Madden signals the start of the stressful release season for reviewers, and it seems accurate again in this instance. While things have been relatively busy for a few weeks now, we’re mere days away from Destiny at this point, which means that life at Push Square Towers is about to get hectic any moment now. Not that this is a quiet week by any stretch, with inFAMOUS: First Light and Metro Redux also on the agenda. Here’s everything that’s coming out on PlayStation over the coming days.

Pick of the Week: Metro Redux

We know that everyone’s utterly uninterested in re-releases at this point, but 4A Games’ post-apocalyptic Metro property is one of those franchises that’s been bubbling under the radar for a while now. Collating PlayStation debutant Metro 2033 and last year’s Metro: Last Light, this is more than just your average port, as entire environments and gameplay mechanics have been enhanced for the PlayStation 4.

Metro Redux PS4 Review
Metro Redux takes two popular post-apocalyptic affairs, and enhances them for Sony’s next-gen system. These are more than just mere ports, though, as both titles have been heavily reworked in order to feel fresh and new. The impact is more impressive in 2033’s case, as it practically looks and plays like a brand new game, while still retaining the core of what made the original such a unique experience. Last Light’s improvements are less significant, but performance enhancements make this the definitive version of the title – especially if you originally enjoyed the outing on the PS3. All in all, whether you’re new to the franchise or not, the abandoned underground has never looked this inviting.

For those out of the loop, both titles are based upon Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky’s books, and depict a nuclear winter which has driven any remaining survivors to reside in Moscow’s famous subway system. Fusing survival horror with first-person gunplay, this package comes with several difficulty options and plenty of expansions to keep you entertained. Moreover, if you only want to play one of the releases, the two adventures will be available separately from the PlayStation Store.
