It’s once again time to get hyped over your latest selection of free software downloads, as the September PlayStation Plus update is set to get outlined very soon. In response to an eager fan on Twitter enquiring about the quality of next month’s refresh, PlayStation Blog manager Fred Dutton maintained his poker face, merely stating that all will be revealed “mid next week”.
This month saw Road Not Taken and Fez given away on the PlayStation 4, which prompted criticism from some corners of the web due to the indie focus. Other freebies included Crysis 3 and Proteus on the PlayStation 3, as well as puzzle platformer Metrico on the Vita. What are you hoping makes September’s lineup? Let us know in the comments section below.

Maybe it's too far fetched but it would be really cool if they would start giving away AAA-games next month for PS4, seeing as how DriveClub PS+ Edition will come out the month after. Killzone Shadow Fall as an example would be great IMO.
Either way, I really wouldn't like them to give away games that were on sale on PS4 this month.
My guess — and I have absolutely no evidence of this — is that Velocity 2X will be one of the games.
Lego Marvel Superheroes on PS4 would be nice. It's not an indie so people wouldn't complain, it's a decent game and Warner/TT have given three Lego games away already (albeit on Vita) so there's clearly willingness there. That and Velocity 2X would be a good mix.
@Sadodi AAA-game and Killzone in same sentence? Irony. There's no genuine AAA-game on either PS4 or Xbox One yet so don't expect anything massive for at least another year.
Its obv going to be an indie game, the only one that has come out that i really like was dont starve, i dont think ps plus has bn worth it on ps4 so far as i dont have a vita or a ps3 tho so it does take away from the value off it as a whole for me.
I'll get the popcorn ready.
I can see Entwined being one of the PS4 freebies.
Let's be realistic if they started giving away AAA titles for ps4 this early game sales would plummet, it won't happen for a good while, on another note I hope vita has another brilliant month
@get2sammyb that would be sweet. It's a game I'd have bought regardless.
Another Lego game for vita would be nice for me. A Quantic dreams game or a kiddie game for PS3. Not hoping too much for PS4 free game but maybe a good surprise
I think Minecraft should be the free one for September!, as a sorry to all the fans/people that have been waiting for the release...from 10 months ago lol
My guesses are:
PS4 - Ecco the dolphin
PS4 - Alien Storm
PS3 - The last of us
PS3 - Gta V
Unsure about Vita, dont really know about it.
How time flies, it's that time of the month again when people start complaining about indie games on the PS4.
Possibly AC4? We got AC3 around this time last year. Not expecting massive AAA this month though as I'm sure Sony doesn't want it to impact those Destiny sales!
PS+ on the PS4 has been nothing but disappointing and I just can't see the trend changing.
I would like Flower on PS4 please Sony. Thanks!
Now already.
I really can never keep up with the pace.
I hope Knack is the PS4 game.
As Tasuki said, Knack would be a good one to get. Though otherwise, I'd rather get indies than retail on PS4, there aren't any retail games I'm interested in, and usually when the PS3 gets one, I'm dissapointed because I'm not interested in it for one reason or another. I've found pretty much all of my console enjoyment of PS Plus to be with downloadable games, not retail.
'The Last of Us Remastered' & 'inFamous:SS' for PS4... Even then people would MOAN still
Who thinks it might be Tomb Raider? Perhaps Square Enix think they need to give something back to PlayStation (Hmmm I wonder why)
@adf86 The PS3 version was already on the IGC. And the new one will come to PS4 eventually. Timed exclusive is the most obnoxious concept of late on an industry that's already brimming with obnoxious concepts.
I have genuinely been blown away with the diversity of games on PS Plus. I have all three consoles so get 5 or so games a month for less than the price of one retail game. Indie or not that is fantastic value!
Even on one console you can't complain there isn't value. If you want Triple A games buy them! If you think you're going to get them for free you must think the publishers and Sony are more stupid than you are!
@SparkyMcFly I remember clearly that Sony announced prior to the PS4 release that their aim was to bring back the variety of genres from the PS1 era. It's unquestionable that that's what they've been doing lately. Right now and in the following months, it really seems that this generation will truly have something for everyone, especially for Vita + PS4 owners. If you look at the gaming landscape right now with an open mind, this is a very exciting time.
I'm kind of still hoping we'll get Red Dead Redemption in the U.S. but I doubt it at this point. I should probably just go and buy it already.
@SimonAdebisi I loved Ecco.
I remember getting it again in the MD collection on the 360.
Alien Storm was ok, not great.
@SparkyMcFly Is it still value if you have the one console and dont enjoy the types of games offered?
Personally Im big on story heavy stuff, and lengthy ones like Assassins Creed.
@voodoo341 Careful dude.
You're not allowed to have a negative opinion on here about plus.
@get2sammyb I would actually love that.
I know people want a AAA title in September but that would steal some thunder from Drive Club. I think Sony wants the that to be the first AAA title as they've invested so much into it. I'm hoping that after October, triple A titles become more commonplace freebies.
I think octodad could happen this month. I also think red dead would be a good one to give away on ps3 (us hasn't gotten it yet). Also, I agree that at this point, drive club should be the first aaa game. November should be knack, lego marvel or killzone, December should be another one of those and then use Rayman, injustice and the like in the early months. Maybe thief.
@ztpayne7 Im pretty sure I read that whomever developed Octodad, said that it wouldnt be coming to plus.
No specific dates though so they may have just meant at launch.
If you don't like it unsubscribe! I'd love loads of AAA games for nothing but why would people makes games if they were just going to give them away months after release?!
I think Sony should do away with the IGC & bring back the glory days of PS+ with PS1 classics, minis and cheap PSN titles as the freebies.
@MadchesterManc That would cause an outrage.
But yeah I agree, it's weird that the value has been getting better and better, yet the amount of complaints and moaning seems to have just increased proportionally. Complaints would be fair, if PS4 required its own subscription seperated from PS3 and PSVita. But well it's not the case, you're basically getting additional PS4 PS+ on top of the PS+ for PS3 and PSVita for which most people originally subscribed to PS+ for the same price as the original PS3 PS+ subscription.
Personally I can't even keep up with the pace and still have PS+ games December last year that I still need to play.
I still haven't played August's free games yet. :::humblebrags about my massive backlog:::
I wouldn't complain, but I'd be happy without mediocre games like Killzone or Knack for PS4. I'd much rather get some really good indies.
@SilentJ Play Red Dead Redemption. It's worth every penny. Superior to GTA 5 in my opinion. Really, really great game. Unique exprience.
@SimonAdebisi I agree with you. Anything free is good for me since most games are highly rated anyways.
@rastamadeus The Last of Us is easily AAA. Yeah it was a PS3 game but it looks better and plays great. Also has all of the dlc. IMO Diablo 3 is a AAA too. Battlefield is considered AAA and so is Call of Duty or though that is a matter of opion lol. NBA 2k is a damn good game too and some would call that a AAA.
I would like to know when we're getting Knack a PlayStation Plus freebie because Im sure Japan already got it.
I've got this weird feeling that Dantes inferno will be up
Im hoping its a lengthy, story driven, non puzzler, non shooter that is both engaging and fun for the PS4 as that is all I own.
hmm killzone shadowfall was very disappointing, killzone 3 still my favorite, the free falling bits were so annoying.
mebe knack or the lego film game, last few months ps4 have been indie non stop, i dont mind an indie game if its decent like resogun but so far they have been very poor
I must be in the minority here, KZ Shadow Fall is definitely my favourite out of the KZ games. It reminded me a bit of Crysis, which is a good thing.
As far as plus this month, I reckon @get2sammyb is spot on. Velocity Ultra was on plus, and the release date stacks up with the date the update should be live. This is a good thing though, as it looks a little like Turrican, and OMFG TURRICAN! If they give us Guacamelee I'll be disappointed, it's a great game, but it's been on Cross Buy on Plus before. Same goes for Hotline Miami. I'd love Strike Suit Zero as well. Whatever, I'm easily pleased now as the last few months haven't been great. I already owned most of the games which is probably my own fault but yeah... Haters gon' hate, potaters gon' potate.
I don't know what we'll get on the PS3, haven't a clue, but I would like to see OlliOlli on Vita, as I really like the look of it but haven't got round to playing it. Looks a little like the Game Boy Tony Hawk games, which I used to really like.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya
Ecco coming to PS4?
@DualWielding No I was making a "retro indie" joke.
As no one on here is allowed to dislike what is offered on the IGC or not enjoy indies, I figured I'd make a light hearted joke.
@Cyrso Sorry lad I have to disagree with you there as the major difference between the ps plus subscription for the ps3 and vita and the subscription for the ps4 is you need the ps plus to play games online with the ps4 where as you dont need them for the other 2 ... and for people like me who dont have a ps3 its a huge let down as it feels like were paying 50 euro or pounds or dollor etc for nothing
Really I'm fine with anything, I as always hope for the best, but realistically we'll probably get Velocity 2X and another indie.
One Im very confident about and really excited for is The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. Its almost finished and is an Indie Game. Plus it was announced to come out free for PS Plus members just like Don't Starve.
