German convention GamesCom is scarily close, which means that the Push Square office is all of a flutter right now. One thing that’s improved our mood, however, is news that Dead Island 2 is set to infect the Cologne show later this month. The sequel will be playable at the expo, which actually marks the first time that local gamers will be able to go hands-on with the series in the region.
It makes sense, of course, seeing as the game is being made by Berlin-based organisation Yager Development. Previous releases in the series have skipped the World Cup winning nation due to high levels of violence, but it looks like the company has come to a compromise this time around. We’ll have to wait and see whether that means that this entry will have less gore than its predecessors.
Oddly enough, Escape Dead Island – the series’ impending PlayStation 3 spin-off – will not be playable at Deep Silver’s booth, which concerns us considering that the title is due out later this year. Homefront: The Revolution will also be skipping the show, which perhaps makes sense considering recent developments.

Violence? Zombies are fictional and may as well be walking hamburger's, perhaps they should have changed all the zombie characters into Frankfurter's and then see if they can declare the game ultra violent. Absurd.
The Dead Island games are a guilty pleasure of mine. I will never say they are great games because they are not far from it. That said I find the leveling up,looting and crafting addictive.
@Splat I really enjoyed the first game, non it wasnt great but it was well made and plenty of fun, hopefully this be and improvement on the 2nd game, I heard it was almost identical?
@SimonAdebisi - Yeah, Dead Island: Riptide was just more of the same. It felt more like long DLC then a full game. I got the digital version on PS3 and it's only 2.7 GB's.
