Sony may have invested heavily in Destiny, but it sounds like the partnership has paid off, as according to third-party chief Adam Boyes, sales of the PlayStation 4 soared over the past seven days. In fact, not only has Bungie’s next big thing become the fastest selling title on the Japanese giant’s record breaking format – but it was also responsible for propelling hardware sales beyond any week since Christmas 2013. As the amiable executive puts it, that’s a lot of systems.
The suit also had some interesting statistics to share, such as the fact that fledgling Guardians have engaged in a whopping 11 million gameplay sessions collectively since last Tuesday. Moreover, the first-person shooter is now the most shared and broadcasted game during its first week on sale in PS4 history. “From everyone at PlayStation, we want to say thank you to the fans – none of this would be possible without you,” added the customary conclusion.
One other interesting tidbit: it sounds like both of the title’s upcoming expansion packs will include additional exclusive content on Sony’s machine, which means that the partnership’s far from over yet. Considering the less than ideal review scores, though, is this a game that you reckon the platform holder should continue investing in? It’s certainly sold well – but do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

Very Impressive
Money talks
It only sold so well because it was over hyped! I was really looking forward to Destiny but I found it to be a real letdown The core gameplay is spot on and the graphics are nice too, but the story is just plain boring. I've had to force myself to finish it. The PvP was ok too but I didn't purchase it for that. Hopefully with dlc this game can get better but for now it'll take the place of my hoover and just collect dust lol
I'm post story now and at level 21 and I'm already bored of how repetitive it is....mainly the grind to get better armour to raise my light level. I'm holding off on trying the Mars strikes just so I have some new content to still look forward to.
The patrols are getting dull and I'm baffled as to why going to finally confront the hard enemies hidden away in areas with a '??' Near their life bar Doesn't seem to net any kind of reward? Maybe I'm missing something.
On the plus side the shooting is sublime and the enemies fun to destroy. But spending so long replaying the same stuff over and over with my Hunter to raise my level certainly doesn't make me want to do it all again with a new character.
As it stands I think I'll have stopped playing destiny before the expansions/DLC hit...there isn't enough after the endgame to keep me hooked....shame as its a lovely game to look at and play.
Must be the iPhone kids grabbing all the glaciers
I remember when world of warcraft first came out and the industry gave it poor reviews. They didn't understand mmorpgs and kept comparing it to single player story driven rpgs. A year later the gaming community embraced it and professional journalists ate their hat and gave the first expansion glowing reviews. I think destiny is in a similar boat ... its the first proper mmo fps of its kind and quite frankly it's here to stay. I love grinding as long as the game mechanics work, and destiny is a sublime shooter. I love my guardian and all the effort put into it and his amazing gear. It's a mmo at its heart and I can't wait to see the next expansions and developing storyline.
No destiny is not overhyped just what watchdog was. It delivers what it said will be
Haven't played yet but if bungie said they will support this in ten years, then i need no hurry to start either
Destiny delivered..its everything bungie said it would be.I get the feeling that a lot of the people that have reviewed it haven't spent enough time with it and i know that in some of the reviews its been dealt with as a straight fps..which it isnt(ignorant journos) and people that are complaining about grinding almost certainly haven't played an mmo/rpg type game..and i personally love the almost vanilla mp,the fact that it is bare bones seems to make it more competitive.. i guess quite a number of people playing the mp cant help but compare it to cod...maybe its because im playing with people i know in real life, people i see and talk to daily(my 12yo son and my work mates!) thats making the difference..for us Destiny is one the most enjoyable games we've played for quite awhile.
Everywhere i look paople are talking bad of this game.. i personally do not get it. I love the way it plays, and the grind for armour and weapons is awesome! Perhaps thats why people don't like it.. they where expecting halo and got a game where you have to earn XP and scour for items for multiplayer. I love the concept, the game needs work and will definitely get better. I promise you this, you are going to want to keep an eye out for Destiny 2 because it WILL be epic i.e. halo 2
@bbq_boy spoken like a true prodigy. I really dislike that people are being so hard on this game. It's not without its flaws, but its nowhere near as bad as others are making it out to be. People should definitely learn to manage their expectations more imo.
Good game or bad, I still love that my PS4 lights up like Ghost.
Well that's something, eh?
Looking forward to see, what the first RPG on PS4 will do for the system (Omega Quintet come ad me Baby)
People talked bad about it mostly because it was not what they hoped it was, Bungie may claim it's not a MMO but it really is. The difference is you one fee for the game & that's it. No nonsense subscription fee (like FFXIV which you had to pay full price & then they expect to keep paying after) or F2P where the majority have game mechanics that are designed to entice you to pay for shortcuts, you only need to look at the gear packs for Warframe to see what I mean.
