You don’t need to go to Specsavers to appreciate the fact that Grand Theft Auto V looks way better on the PlayStation 4. This week’s next-gen trailer proved that this is anything but a lazy port, with Rockstar Games using the extra horsepower of Sony’s brand new box to completely overhaul aspects of the original game.
However, if you need a reminder of what the original looks like in comparison to its supercharged successor, one committed Imgur user has created some GIFs showing side-by-sides of the two versions. To help you out, the committed capper has added labels to describe which edition is which, but such are the differences, we don’t think that they’re really necessary.
Amazing, huh?

My eyes aren't really good with trying to look at comparison images/videos...but with GTA I can see the difference.

@SuperSilverback Very good!
@get2sammyb thanks, I got a wee chuckle outta it!
@SuperSilverback Beat me too it, I was going to try something like Franklicious or Michaeltastic but yours is better by far.
Edit: Actually Franktastic works better than Michaeltastic.
@Jazzer94 haha I was gona say Franktastic back to ya!
@SuperSilverback Ha great (or maybe silly?) minds think alike.
The difference in visuals is very clear. If I'd known that I was getting a PS4 when GTAV was first released I'd have held off on getting it. As it is I'm not paying again for a game I've already got...it's excellent for those who didn't play it 1st time around or think it's worth reinvesting in.
Michaelcholy. Suits Michael as he's real depressing
The comparison shots remind me of the shots of how Watchdogs was meant to look and how it did turn out, the vast improvement of the lighting...but that was a game not reaching its full visual potential on the PS4.
@munkyknuts couldn't agree with you more watchdogs could have been so much bigger and better but they rushed it out in my opinion I suppose GTA just needed that, visual overhaul and it makes a great game just that bit more special...
As was said in the other thread, though, while this definitely does look amazing, I hope they've overhauled the controls, too.
Although the visuals are definitely improved (mainly lighting), it doesn't really change anything for me. I dont feel more involved or engaged over the ps3 version. I guess what im trying to say is that Its no big deal for me.
What a difference that lighting makes.
The real interest for me because i pounded the singleplayer into the ground, is what improvements have been made to online. Should i expect last gen singleplayer to be the graphics for online or better? Will we have a party mode that players can have fun in without tearing through cash. Can i replay just the missions that i enjoy over and over again so effectively farm cash? Will hunting and/or wildlife be a thing in gtao? Is the fort still absurdly hard to try and get a jet? (Oh and thanks r* for disabling the 1v1 deathmatch by the fort which allowed for some really awesome jet fights) Im more concerned about the online part of this now, and will be holding off on purchasing until i know these things.
I can't wait for this Game, It's gonna be Amazing, 30 player online, and they FINALLY adding more Animals
PS3 version did NOT look that bad
Ya it looks better but not THAT much better. Same goes for pretty much any PS3 to PS4 comparison. Far gone are the days of easily telling a world of difference across generations. Now you actually have to try to notice the differences.
With the PC version pushed back, I'll definitely feed this game to my PS4!
Didnt get it on ps3. Had too much else I focused on. Definitely getting it on ps4 eventually
Based on the screenshots, all I see are lighting improvements and a few texture improvements (like hair). I wonder if it will sell well, since GTAV has already been out for a year on PS360.
Am I the only one who really doesn't think that's much of an improvement ????
Good thing is I never played this first time round so I'm looking forward to it regardless of how much better it is
Well, the pictures are definitely 'different', but it might be me, but are the PS4 screens actually 'better'? I had to resort to the 'ps3/4' tags regularly to see which I was expected to like better. Not much difference in textures, draw distance etc. (at least, in these screens)
Uh... Great? Not much of a difference in my view.
I'd rather fawn over PS4 games that are - y'know - ACTUALLY PS4 games?
@get2sammyb how do you think remote play will do with gta v on ps4 on vita? I bought ps3 gta v but I trade it in towards ps4 gta v just for remote play I already beat it but I wanna play a gta game on vita
