Sony is locking the front door on PlayStation Home β and swallowing the key. The divisive virtual world, which has been in beta since the hazy days of 2008, will officially close on 31st March, 2015 in Europe. At the time of typing, there's no official word on the future of the platform in North America, but given that this was a European initiative all along, we can't imagine that the platform holder will continue to stoke the service's fire over the pond.
"Due to a shifting landscape, PlayStation Home will cease publishing new content on 12th November, 2014," the manufacturer wrote as part of a message on its official website. "Gamers in Europe will be able to download content until 3rd December, 2014. As a token of our tremendous gratitude to the community, we will also be releasing a series of free content prior to the platforms closure on the 31st March, 2015."
The firm also went on to thank fans for their ongoing support, which probably won't come as much consolation for those dedicated few who continue to invest time and money into their digital avatar. Will this closure affect you? Give us one last dance in the comments section below.

Its about time.
I never use it in the U.S. Shame for all those people using it...
"Shame for all those people using it.."
Yeah, all five of them are going to be upset.
Home was actually pretty cool. Its too bad but I couldn't last forever. First Life with PlayStation now this. Oh well.
The highlight of PlayStation Home for me was Christmas/New Years time 2011 with the Winter Holiday Hullabaloo a collection of quests and community activities that rewarded home items that was fun and the UNCHARTED 3 Fortune Hunter game to unlock content for UNCHARTED 3's multilayer was nice. I also loved the virtual E3 booths but yeah have not used PlayStation Home since sometime last year. Wish I hadn't spent the $17.98 on virtual content like the Playground apartment and the LOOTβ’ EOD TV. It was amusing to watch HD Nation from Revision3 on that thing. Watching a virtual TV on a TV while sitting in a virtual apartment in my house. lol
I used home when I 1st got my PS3 but that was 2008-2009, I can't imagine it still had many users. It was an interesting idea and it could have been a nice social area if it had been handled differently.
PS home actually became more widely accepted once Bungie added a jump button. Still critically underperformed though.
I met a lot of the people on my friends list through pshome. Used it a hell of a lot for 2 or 3 years until the novelty wore off.shame really as its a really good idea i think .
No!!! Why is this happening.........said no one.
A revamp for ps4 era could work a lot better but never mind I guess its dead
Used it a couple of times & never knew what the hell I was supposed to do there.
They need to shut PS Now down as well
Shut that shiZ down
Used this like twice then never again so don't really care.
Is one of the series of free contents going to be the Trophy Room?
I think I still have 12 green tickets for the carnival part 2, guess I better go flip some frogs. I think the only money I ever spent in Home was $1 for 20 tickets so I certainky got my moneys worth out of Home stomping on scorpions.
I tried it like... twice? maybe. could never really figure it out. seemed lame to me. I won't miss it.
yeah used it once. didn't understand what it was supposed to be. shut it down already!
Nooooooooooooooo!
Seriously, Home could have been great with Project Morpheus. Imagine being able to meet up with your PSN friends in a virtual space where you can hang out, play games, watch movies or whatever.
This could be a killer app for Morpheus - VR, but social.
My girlfriend used playstation home once. She was subjected to moronic comments by idiot users and repeatedly propositioned. She didn't use it again, and it soured my opinion to the degree that I'm glad it's gone. It was a hangout for teenage boys to leer at virtual women, who sere soon scared off. As far as I could see anyway.
Just like Miiverse, tried it once, and never came back to it.
Might have used it more if it didn't take so damn long to connect...that is/was the biggest detractor for me...
It was pretty rubbish anyway
The potential of home always intrigued me. I saw this future of turning on a console, having it load straight to ps home, where my home had all your standard options (bookshelf filled with movies that you pressed x on to bring up your collection for example) then if i wanted to leave and roam the town, go to the bowling ally, movie theater, etc i could. If i wanted, i could invite friends into my home, show them my trophys, maybe watch a movie with them, play a round of cod with them not having to download it, etc. i always saw home for what it was ( a brilliant, far reaching idea that was handled poorly and ahead of its time) and it shutting down will only increase my intrigue of what could have been. Sadly, with the gaikai streaming service we are seeing, my dreams were not only not far fetched, but just a few years away from being reality. Heres to home, i barely used thee, but saw your limitless potential with wide eyes toward the future (and ms for a short while realized this too and answered with the xbox arcade and avatars that we still see today i do believe. )
If there was fighting in there an gun slaying Home would had had a place in my heart but it ain't SO GOOD BYE BYE ππ ππ¦
I bought a Kitten & little Sack-boy in HOME Will have to say my goodbyes soon then to them(what do you mean they are not real)
It's to bad they couldn't bring HOME into the PS4 for people that liked going into HOME and whatever. It had a pretty good size following and people were buying stuff. Now I know there are nay sayers on here, but to say no makes no sense for anyone even if you don't like HOME because, well, you don't have to go on it or install it.
I think they should've brought something similar to the PS4 if not, just HOME revamped for the PS4, faster loading, faster everything.
@sinalefa you're missing out. In comparison, miiverse is a thriving community full of good people who don't try to cyber-rape you.
@AhabSpampurse
Miiverse bores me. The majority of the posts are dumb, meaningless posts IMO. Since that is not my idea of fun, I doubt I am missing out.
TBH I dont like social networks in general.
playing Texas Hold'em while talking in HOME was quite fun though, that is usually where I hung out when in HOME. This is just a shame and like I said, some people may not like the social networking of HOME, but I liked it for what it was and while there were weirdos here and their and kids just messing around, it's not as bad as some make it out to be. The worse part about home was the loading was so long. For what Sony wanted to do with it, it took way to long to load, it wasn't near instant so loading up HOME to load a game with friends on home was a chore. Everything else was fine, but because the PS3 was complicated, even making things for HOME was a chore for developers and the content took AGES to come out.
@sinalefa It looks like you are hearing half of the story on miiverse. It Isn't bad per se, just have to watch out for people that are positive other than the negatives. It's all in our heads imo...
I loved dancing in random crowds, but that got old very fast.
Damn, I've accumulated hundreds of items during the years through games and activities in PS Home.
@NAZA-187 actually, some games did just that
to be honest no one is really going to miss it and it never did reach it's potential, it could have been a huge social platform what we got was a social soapbox
New form of home is coming to the PS4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2kHKjJw_aw , https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxwEKhsSuyI
