It would have been a bigger surprise this week if Destiny had failed to land in the top spot, but, as expected, it’s rocketed straight to the summit. The next big game from Bungie sold best on the PlayStation 4, and also smashed new intellectual property records in the process. As a result, Activision’s probably not too worried about that less than ideal Metacritic score.
Elsewhere in the top ten, previous IP record holder Watch Dogs slipped down into third, as The Last of Us Remastered held on in fifth. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare rooted down in eighth, while Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition built a path into ninth amid Microsoft buyout rumours. Impressively, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution punched its way into tenth as well.
Elsewhere, the boxed version of inFAMOUS: First Light entered in 17th position, as promotions also saw next-gen port Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition fire its way into 37th place. Really getting into Destiny right now, I thought maybe it was an 8 at best but now I'd say a 9 at least, hands down easily the best and probably most fun too, shooter I've ever played.
I think a lot of reviewers misunderstood what Destiny really was, a lot have criticised it for it's lack of innovation but did Bungie ever really say that it was? What Destiny is really is a hybrid of fps genres, the big expansive worlds & loot & shoot mechanics of Borderlands with the addictive PVP of CoD mixed with the gunplay of Halo, that's put into a slick & sleek body of a MMO & that's Destiny.
Good game that deserves to sell well, also nice to see first light doing well.
