We’re not particularly fond of conspiracy theories, but there are a fair few who believe that Destiny is so darn empty because Activision wants to sell you the bulk of the game’s content as DLC. To be honest, we’re not sure that we’re 100 per cent on board with that idea, but it’s clear that the publisher has got a lengthy post-release schedule mapped out – and the geometry for said expansions already appears to exist in the game.
Clearly with nothing better to do – the title doesn’t start until you hit Level 20, remember – a couple of YouTube users have uncovered two super secret areas, which point to new missions not yet accessible in the main game. A story mission named The Citadel can be found on Venus, and will apparently be a part of the House of Wolves add-on due next year, while another, The Hypogeum, can be accessed in The Black Gardens, and will be part of December’s The Dark Below expansion.
There’s nothing to see or do there yet, so this certainly isn’t a case of the content already being included on the disc – the developer’s just created the areas to inject the missions at a later date. If you enjoy glitches and the like, you can find out how to access the hidden locations via the videos embedded below. Personally, this author reckons that it’s a testament to just how dull Destiny’s endgame is that this is a story at all. Game of the month, and all that.

One reason I haven't bought this game yet is because I've heard the game doesn't have nearly as much content as previously advertised. I just don't see how a company can expect people to pay more than the 60 dollars they paid for the disc to get the rest of the game... So is the 60 dollars getting you a large demo? That's what it sounds like to me
I believe that roughly 50 percent of the original game and almost all its story has been cut prior to release for undisclosed reasons! Go google "destiny cut content" and investigate. Even if half of that is true, it's a total sucker punch. Also check out the vidoc of 2013 - lots of scenes and modes (for example faction wars) that have been cut out. Planets are missing too. You'll also notice that their lead writer left sometime during 2013 and the ugly abomination that is the grimoire has been hastily put together shortly before launch... Go read up on it!
It's really a good thing I traded this game in. All that content being cut actually surprises me and I really do hope that Bungie feels the impact for what they've done. They had such a great game when talking about it at E3 and they @#$#ed it. With the end results of Destiny, I will be very hesitant to purchase another game made by Bungie. Just think, that $200+ million budget and this is all they had to show for the base game is so freaking ridiculous. Honestly, I would be on a firing rampage in that company for these horrible decisions made. I would have to be mass producing walking papers. O.O
Bungie can say what they like but a huge amount of content has been cut and shoved it into the DLC. If cheaply produced indies can manage a good story/narrative I expect at least the same from a hugely budgeted game. Extra content DLC should be just that, extra. It shouldn't be the parts needed to complete the main game and fix it.
@Scollurio When I discovered that there were factions in the game I figured that which House you affiliate yourself with would have a greater impact....maybe it will in at a later date, probably content meant to be in the main game. I've looked at all the cut content and stuff online, and it makes me sad to see what the game could have been and what it was. Destiny provided beautiful visuals and gunplay but, for me, lacked in everything else. It's a shame because at some point in its production Destiny was an amazing game.
DLC is killing me.
I've always been bothered by paid DLC, and tried my bet to avoid. And it's always bothered me when "gamers" make fun of and complain about free app games that have micro-transactions yet pay $20 for a season pas for a $60 game, sometimes the season pass is even on sale before the game is out. But it seems like its becoming impossible to avoid. Every game has to have either paid DLC or a season pass. Even Nintendo is selling extra tracks for Mario Kart. Who ever thought Nitnedo would go that route? And Hyrule Warriors has a $20 season pass staring Link and Zelda on a Nintneod console.
DLC has won, and whether you play free games or $60 games I think we all lose.
The idea that its this conspiracy in order to have more dlc? I think not. Also, i remember while leveling up my char that i thought to myself that it was small, now im 27/28 (depending on the gear im using) and have done the raid 3 times, do dailies, the nightfall, the weekly, and farm bounties/matts and i dont think the games small anymore. A quick hop on to do the daily for me turns into a 3hr journey real quick.
There are two named places with locked doors that are on Earth too... Jovian Complex and King something I forgot. Why have named places that are unused yet/innaccessible. It is very frustrating and really fuels the impression that Activision really did request content to be cut for the sole purpose of selling it as DLC...
I sorely regret having paid 100$ for the Digital Guardian Edition and not being able to sell my copy of the game. Biggest gaming mistake I ever made!
@BLPs - I'm not saying all DLC should be free. And I don't consider Luigi to be DLC so much as another game, a sequel. Same w/ the infamous stand-alone Blood Moon (forget what it was called). Enslaved has a $10 story about the pig character. My point was all games seem to have it now, that you can't just buy a game and be done buying. Well of course you can not purchase it, but it's just too in your face sometimes.
The way it's presented in Hyrule Warriors - it is $19.99 I know I purchased it - is constantly there on that front screen. I already bought it and it's still there telling me to buy it. Why can't they change it to "Thank you" instead? The game knows I bought it b/c I have the Dark Link skin. And in MK8 it's already in the game. There are places for the tracks and places for the drivers, so if you don't buy it then it looks like you only have 3/4 of the game. I'ld prefer those things only show up after I purchase them, not before.
It's never all or nothing, yes or no w/ me, it's how it's handled. It can be handled well, and it can be too in your face. But almost every game having it is beginning to be a bit much.
How will the complete Story cost?
