Those of you hoping to return to a snazzier Grove Street on the PlayStation 3 may be disappointed to learn that the rumoured updated version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has only been confirmed for the Xbox 360 so far. When achievements for the title leaked earlier in the week, we speculated that it'd be unlikely for the re-release to be exclusive – but right now, it looks like we were wrong.
“Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the Xbox Marketplace will be available again for purchase beginning 26th October, through Games on Demand,” a spokesperson wrote on developer Rockstar Games’ website. “This version features 720p resolution, enhanced draw distance, and achievement support.”
What’s strange is that this information comes courtesy of a support ticket, and not a proper announcement. Moreover, the question which extracted these details from the firm pertains to the absence of the Xbox Originals release from Microsoft’s storefront. It’s worth pointing out, then, that the PS2 Classics edition of the game is also missing from the PlayStation Store. So, is there still hope for a PS3 version? We hope so.

"What’s strange is that this information comes courtesy of a support ticket, and not a proper announcement. "
And there is your answer.
Wasn't san andreas a playstation exclusive? And now we're not getting the port. Does that mean bungie will be bringing out Halo 1 for the ps3, oh great, not.
We're getting Shenmue instead.
Can still download the ps2 version on PS3
And Er, Where's the Vita Version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas?
@italodance Now that would be swell
ahhh your wording is messing with my mind - "So, is there still hope for a PS3 version? We hope so." So you hope there is hope?
This isn't really that big of a deal anyway. The achievements are great for people that way inclined however if its only a resolution bump rather than the full "HD" treatment (better textures etc) its not really anything new. PC gamers have been able to play like this for a long time now. Sure, we are now talking consoles but i'm just saying.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis I wish we were
What if this is on Vita?... Nah couldn't be.
I think the original Xbox version was better than the PS2, as added the custom soundtracks, in PAL land the PS2 version was also 50Hz.
Meh, if it's not an HD Remaster, I'm not interested anyways.
I'd be better off just downloading the PS2 Classic version, assuming I could even download it (it's still gone from PSN right?).
@Kodeen
@cornish1973 It was a timed exclusive back before there was a name for that sort of thing. PS2 got it first and then about six months later Xbox and PC got it.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis If only that were true amazing wouldnt even describe it.
Microcrap threw money at rock star
@cornish1973 San andreas wasn't playstation exclusive
Rockstar would be completely idiotic to NOT release this on PS3 at this point. And the amount Microsoft would've had to pay them to keep it exclusive to Xbox 360 would be a dumb way to spend $ considering where we are in the lifecycle of 360/PS3.
So the PS2 classic version is also missing? That actually suggests the PS3 will be getting an HD version, since if they're planning on releasing an HD version why leave up the PS2 version? Especially if they're the same price.
It could still be a timed exclusive though, why for the 360 though I don't know. Of course, whoever leaked it might not know the whole story either.
@Godsire-
Seriously if MS is spending for this, the budget that is being given to Spencer knows no bounds. It would literally make no f'ing sense though, for either side. It's an older game and while it will sell well it's not going to break records. The 360 is an old console now and already has a large userbase, this would be the biggest waste of money I've seen in a long time and as a somebody who is almost as much of an Xbox gamer as a PlayStation gamer, this would really piss me off. Spend that money on building up first party teams. I can understand going after Rise of the Tomb Raider. This would just be dumb.
Yea I highly doubt this will not come to the PS3. It just hasn't been announced yet.
I loved San Andreas on the PS2. Fun times zipping around in my jet pack.
The best GTA of all time is Vice City though. Because 80's.
@cornish1973 No it wasn't buddy as I have it for my XBOX.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis Is that true or is it wishful thinking? I hope its true as thats one of my favourite games. Whats strange though is, I've mentioned that game to loads of friends over the years and most of them (over 90%) had never heard of Shenmue, even though most of them had a Sega Dreamcast.
Sony should try and purchase the rights to Shenmue from Sega or whoever owns the IP because according to the people behind it, it has such a massive story it would need several sequels to tell the full story.
If by some miracle Sony did get the rights we could potentially get a new Shenmue every 2-3 years. They could put the originals on the PlayStation store for those who missed it when it was on the Sega Dreamcast.
I have GTA SA for my XBOX and to be honest I've never finished it. I really enjoyed playing it but I would just goof off rather than play through the story.
So to be honest im not bothered about it coming to PS4. Not when we have GTA V coming real soon and imo its better than GTA SA. Yeah GTA SA was the best in the series at the time but we've moved on from that now. Even with a higher resolution and refresh rate its still an old game. IMO GTA V is now the best in the series and besides, instead of wasting time and money on an old game (especially considering we've already got an updated GTA coming) maybe Rockstar should start work on either the PlayStation exclusive it STILL owes Sony or start work on the next installment of Red Dead Redemption.
@WARDIE I believe Sega are just sat on it, yu has the story in his head but nobody is paying for it. I wouldn't trust Sega with it now but I guess its the mostly likely outcome.
