We’re a big fan of the PlayStation 4’s default royal blue backdrop, but sometimes your mood demands something different. Fortunately, as part of PS4 firmware update v2.00, the platform holder has introduced the ability for you to change the colour of the default ‘Flow’ theme. And here’s how you do it...
1. Go to Settings
From the PS4’s home screen, push up to reach the top layer of the system’s menu, and select the toolbox labelled ‘Settings’ to the far right.
2. Enter the Themes submenu
Scroll down the list of options that appear until you reach ‘Themes’, and select it.
3. Change the ‘Flow’ theme’s colour
You should see a list of themes that you have installed on your console. If you haven’t downloaded any others, ‘Flow’ will be the only option that you’ll see. Select this and you’ll be presented with a grid of colours. Hover over them for a preview, and select the one that you like to make it more permanent. Simply repeat the above steps to change your console’s background colour to something else.

Sammy, are you real?? A news article on how to use the ps4 menu? You must get paid by the word, man!
Change background colour > SSB U > Sunset Overdrive
Guess it's clear now which system to buy this holiday
@rjejr when ps4 s exclusives start rolling out all other consoles will be obsolete to me
I went for the golden yellow background. Blue has never really been my colour. I'm surprised a guide was needed for people to work out how to make the change tho.
I'm looking forward to themes beyond 'flow' appearing on the store soon
IF themes haven't been available until now how would anyone have any other theme?
@rjejr Sunset overdrive does look awesome, and I'm sad it's only on Xbox. I was sad Titanfall was an exclusive for them too...but that's just how it goes. I'm still happy I went with the PS4 and I'll remain playstation as I've been since 1996.
@rykkchii I know it seems incredibly obvious, and do apologise if you already know how to do this - however, many of our most read articles on the site come from simple stuff like this, so clearly not everyone knows.
Will try to get the balance right if you already know how to do these things, though.
@rjejr But but look at all dem pretty colors.
In all seriousness themes should be standard at this point and not some major edition.
Okay like it has been stated already: no guide needed. Another question: where to get other themes?
@mikey85 - Emphasis on "start" rolling out. I just hope they all can roll out as smoothly as this holidays only PS4 exclusive DriveClub.
I know PS4 will rule someday, heck it kind of does already, FFXV, Uncharted 4, KH3, the games will come. But for the (some would say all important) Christmas holiday shopping season this year Wii U is finally getting some games, X1 has a big exclusive and Halo:MCC, and Sony, well they have new background colours and dynamic themes. PS4 will still probably outsell the other 2 b/c its a Sony Playstation, but it certainly doesn't have anything to brag about.

So then there are no themes in my region yet.
I just have the "flows".
@Lopezdm Me too!!! Green was what I had in mind from the time they announced background color changes. Sux.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis Infamous: 2nd son was ok but I didn't love it, and it was pretty po faced and serious compared to Sunset Overdrive. It would be nice to play something silly and over the top...like GTA was long ago or Saints Row used to be. I'm a bit tired of grim and moody stuff right now so as much as I'm looking forward to The Order and Batman it would be good to spend time with something colourful and fun.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis or maybe the Rachet and Clank remake.
