Sony said that it wanted to release PlayStation 4 firmware update v2.00 before the biggest games of the year, and it’s held true to that word. The platform holder has nonchalantly dated the jumbo download on its official Twitter account, confirming that you’ll be able to nab the software refresh from 28th October.
The hotly anticipated operating system overhaul boasts a bunch of fresh features, including Share Play, native YouTube compatibility, and themes. If you want a full rundown of everything that’s new, check out our feature through here. Are you looking forward to this firmware update? Pass the controller in the comments section below.

As someone who doesn't use twitch and doesn't like to post vids only to FB or twitter, YouTube is HUGE for me. I'm going to use my YouTube account as a highlight reel, so I can go back and watch epic moments, crazy glitches, anything of interest. I don't for a moment think that anyone else would care, and that's fine! It'll really just be my 'game journal', basically. Absolutely stoked for this update.
Release it right before Call of Duty. Lol I knew it.
Happy about the YouTube bit The Folder bit sounds o.k to but would of liked a PS3'ish way of doing it really but it will do for now. Share Play sounds cool(not sure i will use it much tho) USB Music play is cool(but odd) Why can't i just do it the(again) PS3 way i.e have my MP3's on my PS4 hard drive(& soon? Videos & Photos like(er again) the PS3, But again it will do, so cool for now. I just hope after this update SONY could do a smaller monthly update for a bit to give us stuff a bit quicker like DLNA & Suspend/Resume Game & Pause Downloads & the other minor things can come whenever after that
Finally themes have come to the PS4! It's gonna be cool with YouTube as well.
@glassmusic haha same i like to recorde funny moments in my multiplayer fps games.
YES!
Yes finally.
@glassmusic Hey, that's a cool use for it mate. I have a channel myself but I've only done a few reviews and opinion pieces, still haven't really hit on something that I think would be decent to do.
Yes finally! YouTube and Themes! Only part I care about.
Just in time for Costume Quest 2
Finally
Wow pretty funny I almost got the sunset bundle so I would be getting a super awesome (Main Machine PS4 update) and a second next gen machine on the same day but I'm getting the other machine exactly a week from the 28 cod bundle, but awesome so I'm going to have a straight two weeks of smiles!!! what a grand time to be a gamer!!!! finally send only 4 more days!!!!
Yay. Great news. Can't wait.
Nice now I can watch AVGN on my big screen.
Woooo themes and a folder system
will the youtube app allow us to upload videos to youtube like the xb1 app does, I hope so because after my laptop died I now have no way of uploading youtube videos
@Tasuki to be fair you could anyway, through the ps4 internet browser just go to youtube.com/tv and there you go
it also fuctions just like the ps3 app too
Of course, right when I will get more use with my PS Vita for Freedom Wars on the 28th, the big update comes to PS4 =p
Will there actually be themes to have is all I care about. Vita's update gave us the option to have themes but no themes to use.
Also, is the library part of anyone's PS4 playing up? Whenever I click on a game in there that I haven't got installed it takes you to it on the store to re-download. Yet when I do it and it goes to the store it just crashes back to the home menu.
@ScreamAimFire99 By you knew it you mean everyone on the planet knew it. They even said it would be out before the biggest games. Doesn't take Einstein to work out they're talking about COD (rightly or wrongly).
Alleluja!!!!!
@crazykcarter or also being able to build up your own themes from the games screenshots you take....
Already dreaming about a background made by one of the breathtaking sunset in Driveclub....
@artemisthemp what is your profile pic from....?
@Alpha I don't remeber just wrote Demon cat one day and their it was.
Love it!
@XFsWorld Lol same here, actually the share play too. Lot's of things I like to show friends while playing that are hard to explain. Just hoping this also makes PSN better than what it's been.
Wow! How gaming has changed since my first games console which was an Atari 2600 I got for my birthday back in the early 1980's.
Gaming has been a massive part of my life and will continue to be until the day that I die. Its coursed arguments between me and many girlfriends over the years but its great to be in the position of watching how its grown and gone from a geeky kids toy to a gaming device that people of all ages and all walks of life enjoy. Gaming now earns more money than music and the movies industry which makes me smile.
I wonder how far we'll take this technology. I remember having to go to an arcade or certain kind of store to try VR and very soon we'll have it in our houses. Back then it was way too expensive to bring VR into your home on a consumer level.
On topic though I am really looking forward to this update. My favourite feature is the Share function. That just blows my mind. No more need for demos and any and all of my PS4 friends can play and try my games no matter where they live.
Now I just hope Sony can get there online service running properly then it'll be great. My trophies don't always synce with PSN and it takes several minutes for messages to load. There are a few other PSN issues but since we get several free games across 3 platforms each month I can't really complain too much.
Looking forward to this update, but I feel like this gen might be a little lost on me. I never play online, I love single player games, and most of the free monthly games I never get round to playing, I just like having the disk. It's great to have the games an all, but I found myself deleting a lot of these free games last night as they took up way too much space on my 500gb super slim ps3 as I bought killer is dead and red dead bundle.
Now with the ps4 it's all about online play, I'm hoping good single player games never go away. So I am not going to resubscribe to ps+ and just stick with sales on psn and disc based games.
I hope I'm not the only one
