Never stop singing, Sparrow

The songbirds will keep on singing, and we’ll keep on playing video games. With the thrust of the holiday season now in full swing, there’s no shortage of titles to choose from – as is evidenced by the variety outlined by our team of writers below. Of course, with reviews to write and news to report on, there’s no real time to dwell, so let’s get down to business.

From one horror game to another: I’ve abandoned Alien: Isolation’s ever-present extraterrestrial to make a date with ol’ Safe Face in The Evil Within. At this point, I’m not sure that I’m going to have any nails left.

This weekend will be unceremoniously dedicated to finishing off games that are in desperate need of being removed from my mounting backlog. This includes the gigantic Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate, mostly because there always seems to be yet another musou release just waiting around the corner.

I will be spending my weekend buried within the neon depths of Pix the Cat, arguably the most addictive PlayStation Plus freebie of all time. On a related note, can we just talk about how polished that game's presentation is? When I first booted it up, I sat listening to its menu music for about five minutes – it's that good.

Nicola Hayden, News Reporter

With all of this month's PlayStation Plus Titles on my playlist, just where to start first is leaving me in despair. Short bursts of Rainbow Moon and Pix the Cat are my remedy while I mentally recover in-between cases of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.

While there won't be much of an opportunity for gaming this weekend due to the arrival of my first child, I am hoping to spend some time with Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor in-between the feeding and nappy changes. Am I being too optimistic? [Probably Alex, but on behalf of all of us at Push Square, congratulations on your new arrival – Ed]

I've got two games that I really want to play, but I want to wait for DriveClub’s full feature set to actually be available and for Creative Assembly to patch Alien: Isolation’s horrid cut-scene framerate glitch. In the absence of those two, I might turn to a proven winner in Season One of The Walking Dead. [Welcome to next-gen, Graham – Ed]

I'm heading to Play Expo in Manchester on Saturday, where I enjoy loitering in the coin-op section, and reminiscing about the golden age of the arcade. I'm also hoping the candy cab that houses Konami's 1991 Xexex is there again, because I still haven't imported the Salamander Portable collection for my PSP.

The bane of mid-terms loom over me for the next week, so I must struggle to study, write, and research while I reluctantly put aside finishing the side content of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor for a while.

My backlog of games just keeps growing and growing while I'm playing the big titles like Destiny and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. However, this weekend I plan on clearing some of it by playing Pix the Cat, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Spelunky, Velocity 2X, and more. If I manage to get through all of that, I'll need another weekend following it to recover.
