In reality, it hasn’t been that long since the PlayStation 4’s hotly anticipated 2.00 firmware update was announced – but that hasn’t stopped us from yearning at the prospect of the functionality enhancing digital download. Fortunately, platform holder Sony stresses that it’s not far away now, so you won’t have too much longer to wait.
“I can’t comment on new hardware features today, other than to say that [updates] are always in the works – as previously announced there’s a big PS4 update just round the corner that we’ll be talking more about soon,” PlayStation Blog manager Fred Dutton wrote in response to a request on the manufacturer’s official website.
Presumably, a lot of the restlessness can be attributed to the fact that Microsoft has been great at releasing regular updates for the Xbox One, which makes it seem like the Japanese giant’s machine is falling behind. In truth, though, it’s planning some big features for its next refresh – including Share Play, which will allow you to take control of your friends’ games via the Internet.
Nifty stuff, huh?

Right with PlayStation TV launch
@ScreamAimFire99 I wouldn't hold your breath.
I still desperately want media support and streaming. As soon as that deploys I can ditch my archaic 360.
'Share Play' sounds cool 'but'...no i am not going to say it again(i.e 'WE' all want MP3/DLNA&Folders 1st SONY, i think) (DAM i said it again) + Been playing 'Pure Pool' a lot & it's just sad that i can't play my own music while playing the game on my PS4
I know it's not a major feature on most people's update wish list, but I'd really like themes on the PS4...arranging stuff into folders would be good too tho.
@Munkyknuts themes are part of the update
@tulaib_100 Good
Been a pretty good week for firmware updates... Folders for Wii U last Monday, followed by themes for Vita, then even better themes for 3DS last night. 2.0 for PS4 in the near future would be awesome... I <3 firmware updates.
I hope you can turn share play off, I don't want some of my mates messing with my games while I'm playing
@Carl-G Music Unlimited is an awesome music service on the PS4 that allows you to listen to music(any song) while you play a game.
Try out the 30 day trial while you wait for firmware 2.00 to drop. Also, remember to cancel subscription after the 30 days are up if you don't want to continue with the service.
I tried it and it has any song you can imagine in its library. It's awesome😊
@FullbringIchigo that wont happen - there would never be a function where you can just take over someones game. I imagine player 1 would send an invite to the friend they want to play.
console manufacturers would need to stop shipping consoles if the O.S. is not ready it gives a bad image where the supposedly new more advanced console lacks basic features the 7 year old one had
The os is ready, they are not going to simply give you everything at once. Remember these consoles have a long life now and they like to have things to add for people who have just purchased or are on the fence. Its all about the games and there are alot of great ones now, all the rest is just nice.extras.
The fact the PS4 didn't ship with the ability to use themes or organize your downloads in some way is ridiculous. What year is it?!!
I got so many of my friends to change from x box to ps4 and with this update there's gonna a lot more. But there gutted about how poor the media support is. Hope Sony suck it in and give up with this waiting crap! But have this feeling that there gonna launch it just before Christmas.
Well it'll come when it comes
@Carl-G I personally am not too fussed regards music but the folders I really would like to see.
Just keeps things tidy and I don't have to scroll all the way along for something.
Looking forward to 2.0, and whenever it is ready i will be waiting. Mp3 support is nice, but i can count on one hand how many times i used on 360, themes are going to be nice, i want to change to a simple black backround myself, maybe even buy a ps3 dashboard theme for the ps4 (i loved the xmb). Dlna support is a nice feature, something i dont use nearly as much as i used to when i was torrenting frequently and the hard drive containing years of things kicked the bucket. My main request is simple. I want the option to change my user id. I created my id in 06/07, severely inebriated, and to this day regret the decision.
Can anyone remind me why sony removed media support? like really now they launched a 500GB console without media competibility?...come now
I'm looking forward to firmware update v3.56 when hopefully all the functionality is installed that people keep whinging about and we can get back to discussing surprisingly subtle additions that will only be of interest to technophiles like we used to have on Ps3
All we want is Youtube. Please give it to us in this update Sony?
"a big PS4 update just round the corner that we’ll be talking more about soon,”
Either release it or stop talking about it.
I want to play my own music in PS4 too.
PS Vita can do it, why PS4 can't???
I really hope 2.00 release before The Evil Within.
hopefully 2.10 or what they gonna call it add MP4 and MKV support
Xbox one just got a plex app with 360 to follow dnla is quite important to a lot of people it would be nice if there was some way of viewing/listening to media on sony's super console (that has much less functionality then their predecessor) it's been out almost a year now some extra functions are needed.
A new update is badly needed but sony needs to fix alot of other things aswell like there servers and there o.s as sometimes u cant bring up your friends or send invites or even delete messages i hope they sort all this soon b4 microsoft start to overtake the lead coz ps4 is startin to get a bad rep for being unreliable and easily hacked this is a paid service now we need a better service sony sort it soon.
I love my PS4, but I'm starting to get really sick and tired of many PlayStation 'fans'. Nothing but a bunch of self-entitled, relentless whiners.
@RawWilson1 I genuinely considered subscribing to MU, but I currently pay £8 a month for Google all access and unfortunately MU couldn't match the catalogue of Google. Tbh, for my tastest, it didn't even come close. Makes me sad, cos I really would've liked to stream some stuff while grinding some Destiny or whatever.
