Guerrilla Games’ next-gen launch title Killzone: Shadow Fall may not have received especially stellar reviews, but it’s still proved a gigantic success for the Dutch developer. Writing on Twitter, the company confirmed that the game has now surpassed three million unique players, which could include used copies, but is still an impressive feat.
All the way back in January, publisher Sony announced that the first-person shooter had become the first title to sell one million units on the PlayStation 4. “We have broken through the three million unique players mark with Killzone: Shadow Fall,” exclaimed game director Steven ter Heide. “Thanks for your support everyone.”
To be fair, the title’s post-release support has been nothing short of spectacular over the past 12 months, with the studio still updating the title with new features and modes to this very day. It’s just a shame that, despite the sales, the game hasn’t ever quite attained the online fanbase that it deserves, as we thought that it was thoroughly enjoyable in multiplayer.

My proudest platinum. In the 0.2 percentile according to PSN. Should tell you how much I played the multiplayer; it's honestly very good.
If this were Capcom, this would most certainly confirm a sequel!
But in this case, I don't understand? Why? Sure I don't doubt the Multiplayer offerings' quality but this isn't even the best Killzone game and quite frankly I'm still miffed that Joris De Man got the boot in favour of who again? It all went downhill starting with Killzone 3.
@Punished_Boss_84 Well, it was a launch game, and was heavily bundled, so that's going to bump up the player count a bit. The single player had some amazing bits and horrendous bits. PSP game is still the best Killzone.
@get2sammyb So was Knack Killzone 2 holds that crown, that one immediately follows afterwards tho.
I was underwhelmed by Shadow falls single player...it was pretty but I never had the desire to replay it. Actually I got it packaged with my PS4 last Christmas tried it for an hour then left it until recently. I've never been into multiplayer so I never played that element of the game tho I know it's considered to be very good.
Honestly the only reason I ever played the game at all was that there wasn't a whole lot of variety to choose from on PS4 at the time.
I'm still pleased the game did well, for the greater good of the console.
I played the online Multiplayer very recently at a friends house like 2 weeks ago and didn't see the lack of players. But I think Killzone: Mercenary is the best . Great numbers tho, I wanna see how well the Vita one did tho.
Still playing it! Love it!
It's such a good game! I actually restarted the campaign yesterday because it was that good
@seeafish same here...120 hours, and all without boosting. Loved every minute.
Maybe I'm just a simplistic gamer. But shadow fall Is one of my top ten games I liked single player immensely. And the multiplayer just keeps giving, I can't remember the last game that gave me free maps.
How? This game sucks.
@gr8apeb8 same here. I would quite happily pick it up and play the single player again right now. Don't get why people didn't like it so much.
I can't play it right now though. My girlfriend is watching Strictly.
It was a good game. Fantastic graphics. Multiplayer was very similar to battlefield to me. I enjoyed it. Hopefully they will make a 5th killzone...
@get2sammyb Killzone Mercenarys on the PlayStation Vita was pretty good too, don't you agree? At the very least it was a great showpiece of the Vita's potential.
More of a graphical showcase than anything, singleplayer was alright, multiplayer was great. It was the big PS4 exclusive at launch so no wonder it sold well.
It was a solid game, graphics wise and gameplay wise. Shame it was just abit boring for me.
@Johnnycide I agree. It was a really good game. All the KillZones are good, but KillZone: Shadowfall is Guerilla's best game IMO, and they deserve the credit they get. Especially as they got it out for launch. Same with Knack. Both really good games. The turd in the salad is Drive Club.
@get2sammyb That freefall…worst level I e ever played in a game in the last 5 years hands down.
Killzone 1 for me.
Shawn Pertwee as that hybrid Helghan!
So glad that it sold well, and good for Guerilla.
Personally I think it is a very good game, that deserved more than its reviews gave it. Its multi-player in particular was excellent. Doesn't mean it was perfect. Its biggest challenge (IMO) was just inconsistency. Some amazing levels, coupled with some atrocious ones. A good story premise, let down by some cardboard characters. Lack of enough set pieces that created that "buzz". Overall, I think the games biggest flaw was a lack of adrenaline. It just needed more places to kick you in the backside and push you alone more, rather than letting you drift through and find your way.
But having said all that, personally, I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Just maybe not the best of its kind available.
