Sony clearly thinks highly of the PlayStation 4’s recently added Share Play feature, as it’s made the addition one of the system’s main selling points in this new European commercial. The clip shows two hopeless gamers stuck in the middle of a Viking battle, and relays ways in which some of the next-gen console’s core functions can help them escape.
To be honest, we’re not overly keen on the attempted Shaun of the Dead-esque humour, but we reckon that this does a decent job of outlining several of the system’s major selling points in around sixty seconds. It’s just a shame that the platform holder’s given developers the ability to block Share Play, as this ad doesn’t carry quite the same clout after that unfortunate unveiling, does it?

A shame? They can't force that on developers.
As for this ad...
Um the music is well epic. For some reason i initially judged this as a Braveheart like ad.
Your photo caption ninja'd my comment.
Least it doesn't have the God awful computer-garbled "PlayStation" voice the American adverts have. They need to drop the 'This is for the players' tagline though as almost nothing Sony have done this year goes with that, maybe try 'This is to take mick'?. As for the advert itself, typical crap video game advert really. Sort of gets the point across but is just typically rubbish. You wouldn't know Sony once had mastery over video game advertising would you? Why can no-one advertise video games any more without it making you think 'meh'?
I personally like the ad. It does a good job advertising Playstation features and doesn't take itself too seriously.
The best ever Playstation ads were the US ones with Kevin Butler. He was the VP of our hearts.
That's a cool feature that we can't use :/
Watched the vid, wasnt the best, wasnt the worst, did a good job of explaining the different social media aspects of the PS4.
Sony had a choice, this or PS4 holiday exclusive DriveClub.
@SuperCat I couldn't agree more!
I liked it. Great feature but Australian connection speeds are so crap that neither myself or my mates can use it. Not Sony's fault though. Don't know why people are so anti-Sony at the moment, I think they've done a blinding job with the PS4 this year.
I read articles all the time from this website and your sister site pure xbox and one thing that I have noticed, even with the xbox one reveal, they were impartial, upset but optimistic.
I realise that not everything has to be positive, but I have noticed a very negative tone of late towards Sony and it's PS4, from this very site, the last sentence in this article, being one very small example of this, why you guys feel like doing that is beyond me.
Back on subject, great ad and if a platform holder provides a service for the consumer at a system level, the onus is on the owner of the IP to implement it, not the platform holder.
Share play should be embraced by the console gaming community and allowed to evolve and become mainstream.
@muzdbuz : sooner pushSquare tell it the way they see it and not become a (marketing) site where sony can do no wrong .
back on subject , i thought the ad was terrible . okay - it ticks all the boxes but battling vikings , dave on the bus and that rad viking ? no thanks .
@eliotgballade agree about pushsquare telling it the way it is, I have absolutely no issue with that. Corporations must be held accountable.
I just don't understand why it's Sony's fault that other corporations don't/can't/won't play the game. If anything, it should be the likes of Activision, EA and other publishers, pushing the developers to add functionality (or in this case - not blocking functionality).
Anyway, there are more important issues out there.
