It's very rare to see a game which features a wholly unique premise, but Alien Trap Games' new PlayStation 4 sidescroller Apotheon is one such title. This indie has a visual style which has to be seen to be believed. We're not kidding – go watch the trailer embedded down below. We'll wait. Seriously.
If you did watch the trailer – and you were paying attention – you might have noticed the one problem with this gorgeous graphical conceit. Namely, it looks like it might sometimes be quite tricky to tell the difference between the characters and the background. This could be particularly annoying considering what appears to be quite precise and demanding gameplay. Obviously, it's much too early to truly tell, but thankfully we won't have too long to wait, as the game is set to launch in January 2015.
Do you think that Apotheon is all style, or is there substance lurking in those mythology-inspired hills? Will you be picking up the game when it releases next year? Sharpen your spear in the comments section below.

I love the way this looks. I'm hyped!
@get2sammyb oh my, this looks frickin gawjus. I want. Gameplay and style looks amazing, just hope that it isn't one of those hardcore die repeat die repeat indie games.
Sold!
Very pretty style, even if female characters should have white skin in that kind of art. However, I'm not impressed with gameplay.
This game seem interesting
This is the first exclusive I think I'm going to be really bummed about not playing. Hopefully the Vita will get a release.
