Sony’s pledged its ongoing support to the ageing PlayStation 3 by releasing a new firmware update for the machine. The operating system overhaul – dubbed v4.66 – is available now, and improves software stability. Well, you weren’t expecting anything especially interesting, were you?
It didn’t take us too long to download and install this update, but we must admit that we have been spoiled by the PlayStation 4’s excellent Rest Mode. Still, you’re going to need to grab this one if you want to connect to the PlayStation Network with your console, as it's mandatory we’re afraid. Time to blow off the ol' cobwebs, huh?

I still use my PS3 often....that won't last forever I guess as the last game I bought for it was South Park: the stick of truth, and I'll eventually get thru my backlog of PS+ games....and since the plus offerings for PS3 mostly suck now I guess any need to turn the old system on will dry up....sad but inevitable.
@Munkyknuts I still use mine everyday too. My PS3 backlog is insane, and, honestly, I find it's a better system for media stuff. shrugs
@get2sammyb it is still a very good system. I may get Assassins Creed Rogue and I still have the likes of Ni No Kuni to play...and planned replays of Skyrim and Dishonoured with the DLC I Bought and never tried...my PS3 will still get usage for the foreseeable future.
I love my PS3 & still use it every day. My backlog is the size of a dictionary, so that won't be changing soon.
I still have a ton to play on PS3 as well, even unreleased games like MKX.
Had to do this last night - almost exactly 12 hours ago actually - and it went real quick, though it may have already been DLd as there was a notice when I turned it on.
I am going to miss all that behind the scenes stuff when my PS+ expires on Friday, but owning only the PS3 means it isn't worth it for me. Though I'ld pick it up for $30 I suppose just to finisih all the stuff I haven't played yet.
@sinalefa - I don't know what MKX is (Mortal Combat X?) but there is 1 PS3 EXCLUSIVE I'm waiting for, if it ever gets a western release.
GODZILLA!!!!!!

I'ld import it if I could read a word of japanese. Never imported a game before but I'ld make an exception for this. And it comes out in 4 weeks.
@rjejr
Yes, I was referring to the new Mortal Kombat game. Not a day one purchase, but I enjoyed the last one.
And sorry, but that trailer looks amazing. They nailed down the animation, as it looks like guys inside costumes. I don't think they would localize it, so I wonder how text heavy it really is.
Hey! guys,
Must admit I'm trying real hard not to buy any more games on my older consoles, I recently finished off TWD Season Two on PS3 and I'd also like to get round to playing both Puppeteer and the last Sly game that was released, other than that I only intend to buy Kingdom Hearts 2.5 this will "probably" be my final PS3 game that I buy.
Still nice that Sony are releasing the odd PS3 firmware here and there though.
I still play my PS3 more than my PS4; there are just too many great PS3 games that I missed that can be picked up now for a few dollars to justify putting it out to pasture. For example, I just picked up Kingdom of Amalur for $3 on PSN. Three dollars....that is literally pennies per hour of gameplay! Wolfenstein has been getting the PS4 more playing time, though, and the PS3 might get a few weeks off soon now that Dragon Age: Inquisition is here.
I'm still playing the heck out of my PS3, and I don't think that would change even if I had a PS4 and every PS4 game I'd want.
I'm poor an haven't upgraded yet so I still use my PS3 every day haha. That said Diablo III: Reaper of Souls was probably my last day one purchase for PS3.
I haven't played ps3 for a week which is a record. I have more games left to play than I have room for so I've been buying ps4 games digitally (same install size, so no boxes etc. doesn't bother me). My old fatty 60 gig will be used for another gen for sure, I'm glad they're supporting it
Gave my ps3 to my son and it sits in his room next an x box 360 and a wii u. I also got the pstv yesterday for him so he has access to the ps4. But I can't believe that he has a perfect mp3 on it and dlna support as well! The ps3 his a backup data machine now.
Not cool Dude! PS3 still has a solid place! =/ Though undoubtibly PS4 is freakin sweet!!!!
