Back in the day, video game watches were all the rage. This author has a Double Dragon timepiece kicking about which includes a pretty terrible LCD replica of Taito’s beat-‘em-up – but things have gotten a little more sophisticated since then. With smart watches a current curiosity, it was only a matter of time before someone got an emulator running on one – and that’s exactly what a YouTuber named EpicLPer has managed to do.
The results – which comprise a playable version of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – are impressive, even if the combination of touch controls and tiny inputs don’t look especially effective. Think of this as more of a novelty than an alternative to a PlayStation Vita, then – after all, we doubt that you’ll be beating the notoriously difficult Crash Bandicoot with this on your wrist. It’s hard enough with an original DualShock, for goodness’ sake.

The worst idea I have ever heard.
I had a Double Dragon watch, I'd totally forgotten about it until I read this article. Games on a smart watch just seem like a rubbish idea altogether really...but then smart watches themselves are only going to lead to folk being more tech addicted and insulated than they are now....it's bad enough having to control my slap reflex when talking to someone and they are messing with their phone all the time without having them staring at their watch all the time.
@_get2sammyb Crash bandicoot is hard? I guess I never really thought of it that way, it was the first game I owned on Psone and I 100% it multiple times. He is still my all time favorite Playstation Mascot.
Sounds kinda cool. Teeny screen with squished on screen touch controls? Blue tooth? Maybe possible to program a DS3 or DS4? Then there is the weird holding a controller in your hand while trying to stare at your watch thing. Somebody will figure it out.
@soracloud28 You're a better person than I. I can barely beat the first level these days. Agree with you, though - best PlayStation mascot. Bring him back!
It sounds cool, but I don't really think this would actually be a great idea. Just seems like a gimmick to me.
@soracloud28 I never really thought Crash 1 was hard unless you were going for the gems. Then it was painful. It didn't help that I played the PS1 Crash games in backwards order when I was a kid in 2000. Yes, really.
@Munkyknuts Dude I feel that way all the time. I didn't even have a cell phone until I was 16, and it's not even a touch phone. It really irritates me seeing people stuck on a phone all the time.
Pointless.
Absolute waste of time
Whahaha this reminds me of playing 3D games on old iPhones.
I have a ps1 emulator for my phone. It runs surprisingly well and at 60fps. I am guessing the ps1 did 30, but not sure.
Wow this is amazing... a tiny little watch can play PS1 games yet my PS4 still can't.
Its not a tiny little watch, its a big watch but more importantly its not a watch, its a small phone.
@get2sammyb : bring back crash AND double dragon watches !
Why would I want to play games on a watch. Like really now????
The only(well BEST way) to play PS1(or any other PS game) is with a DS1/23 or 4 Pad & a BIG TV!
@Carl-G : maybe , but wouldn't you look a bit silly with them strapped to your wrist ?
Boring........😚💨💨💨💨
I had a Mario game and watch, and it was my prized possession. I was entranced by the crude LCD graphics and blippy bloopy sounds.
It died after I forgot to take it off before getting into the bath.
I dried it off with a hairdryer, but from then on it only made weird beeping noises and Mario's sprite was in every position on the screen at once.
