After one of the worst launches in recent memory, DriveClub finally resembles a working product. The racer’s challenges are back online, the weather has been implemented, and the online multiplayer works almost flawlessly. The next logical step, then, is to give a chunk of the title away to PlayStation Plus subscribers as previously promised, but Sony’s going to stress test the servers a little more first.
“Unleashing it on the millions of PlayStation Plus users is the next step, but we want confidence in the capacity and concurrency figures,” said SCEUK gaffer Fergal Gara in an interview with IGN. “I’ll say again: we apologise and are trying to sort it, and we’ll hopefully learn from it so that we see it less in the future.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Gara admitted that the company is “embarrassed” by the launch. “When you lay your soul out as being '4ThePlayers', then what you certainly don’t want is games that are not fully ready,” he explained. “It certainly wasn’t any ill-intention on behalf of the team. It’s ambitious as a game; they’re as embarrassed as we are, and all you can do in those situations is say sorry.”
For those out of the loop, the title launched in October, and immediately crashed. All of the release’s defining features were instantly pulled offline to cope with the demand, while the PlayStation Plus version was delayed indefinitely. The past two months have seen features being slowly reintegrated, with the title finally finished as of this week.

"so that we see it less in the future.”
Er... don't you mean not at all in the future Fergal?!
@KratosMD - Yeah I hope when the PS+ edition is released, those of us that have paid for it won't have to put up with poor performance again. Maybe they will have the PS+ version running on their own servers? Hope so...
To be honest I thought the game would never get fixed haha
Crash + burn.
its a great game. unreal graphics and gameplay
The only reason DC is working now is because alot of people have stopped playing it. Basically putting less stress on the servers. I haven't played my copy of DC in ages, but I had, had enough of the random players ramming each other of the track. I did see alot of potential in DC though.
I'm still looking forward to giving the free version of this a whirl. Nearly bought the full game from a colleague for £20, but decided I'd hold out for the free version first, and then upgrade via the bargain bin if I like what I see!
I pre ordered Drive Club before i ordered my PS4 back in Oct 2013. I lived and felt every moment of the ups and downs with Drive Club. Several times I thought of canceling my order. Today I am glad I never went that far. I really enjoy Drive Club as a racing game today. But yes 4 of my team mates have not been playing Drive Club for a month. I would like for them to send out code invites to Drive Club to plus members in waves. We don't need a another repeat. I do still expect some things to need fine tuning but they are going to need a crack hot fix team. That can get things done in a few hours. not weeks and months to get this game going well again! I think millions are going to want to buy Drive Club once they get a taste with the free version!!
They need a good experience for that to happen. Like we are having today in the game.
I'll believe it when I see it...
@JohnKarnes I like the idea of them sending them out in waves. It just leaves the opportunity for those who really want it to get angry if they're not in the beginning. Personally, I wouldn't mind being a later wave even though I'd like to try it out someday.
So I am guessing January maybe February?
“When you lay your soul out as being '4ThePlayers', then what you certainly don’t want is games that are not fully ready"
They really need to drop that tagline.
It works fine now, multiplayer races in the wet are epic
I no longer care . Put the money down and got it after I read all the bugs were patched in.
"It's an ambitious game"?? What's so ambitious about it?
