DriveClub PS4

After one of the worst launches in recent memory, DriveClub finally resembles a working product. The racer’s challenges are back online, the weather has been implemented, and the online multiplayer works almost flawlessly. The next logical step, then, is to give a chunk of the title away to PlayStation Plus subscribers as previously promised, but Sony’s going to stress test the servers a little more first.

“Unleashing it on the millions of PlayStation Plus users is the next step, but we want confidence in the capacity and concurrency figures,” said SCEUK gaffer Fergal Gara in an interview with IGN. “I’ll say again: we apologise and are trying to sort it, and we’ll hopefully learn from it so that we see it less in the future.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Gara admitted that the company is “embarrassed” by the launch. “When you lay your soul out as being '4ThePlayers', then what you certainly don’t want is games that are not fully ready,” he explained. “It certainly wasn’t any ill-intention on behalf of the team. It’s ambitious as a game; they’re as embarrassed as we are, and all you can do in those situations is say sorry.”

For those out of the loop, the title launched in October, and immediately crashed. All of the release’s defining features were instantly pulled offline to cope with the demand, while the PlayStation Plus version was delayed indefinitely. The past two months have seen features being slowly reintegrated, with the title finally finished as of this week.
