PlayStation Experience is done and dusted, but Sony’s first fan convention was so surprisingly stacked with content that we’re still kind of catching up. Our very own video extraordinaire Ben Potter has been busy uploading a gazillion gigabytes’ worth of trailers onto our YouTube channel this week, so we thought that it would be fun to look back at the ten very best videos from Sony’s show. Don’t forget to tell us your favourite in the comments section, too.
Final Fantasy VII
Square Enix should perhaps offer crash course lessons in trolling technique. The moment that Final Fantasy VII’s logo appeared during Sony’s big PlayStation Experience press conference, you could sense the mounting disbelief among the Las Vegas audience. Then footage of the PSone title appeared, and all hopes of a remake were crushed. To be fair, while this may be a port of a PC port, it’s still going to sell like a cheap television on Black Friday. Please be excited.
Gang Beasts
A game that we’ve been campaigning for ever since playing it at Rezzed earlier in the year, Bone Loaf's brilliant Gang Beasts is the best wrestling game that Yuke’s has never made. It essentially sees you controlling one of several coloured blobs, tossing them off Ferris Wheels and into factory furnaces. Not for the faint-hearted, then – but still an absolute hoot with friends.
LittleBigPlanet 3
It’s odd for a trailer for a game that’s already available to appear during a press conference, but this LittleBigPlanet 3 clip earned its place during Sony’s big PlayStation Experience keynote and then some. Essentially a compilation of several user created levels, it plots the progression of the Japanese giant’s gaming brand in Play Create Share form. Sensational.
Shovel Knight
As if news of this award-winning Nintendo indie making its way to PlayStation platforms wasn’t enough, the trailer’s post-logo Kratos tease stirred the God of War fan inside all of us. Chaos awaits in this pixelated side-scroller from the brilliantly named Yacht Club Games.
Street Fighter V
Yes, it leaked, and that sucked most of the hype out of this announcement – but could you imagine if it hadn’t? The build up with the DualShock 4s and arcade sticks was enough to get our blood pumping on second viewing, but the way that the press conference was paced – with Ultra Street Fighter IV being revealed earlier in the show – should have made this a megaton. It’s still a neat trailer, either way.
Super Time Force Ultra
Shuhei Yoshida is in Capy’s uber-awesome sidescrolling shooter Super Time Force Ultra, and he’s tougher than ever. Using his smartphone to fling tweets at tyrants, this cameo managed to even usurp Kratos’ appearance in Shovel Knight. The game looks ace as well, allowing you to rewind time to double down on your attack patterns, and blast through its colourful worlds.
Tearaway Unfolded
Due to our ties with Nintendo Life, we welcome a lot of Nintendo fans on this site. That always results in vocal groans when Sony trots out several gritty shooter games and survival horrors in a row, so Tearaway Unfolded appeared to offer the PlayStation Experience respite that some of our demanding readers desired. This may be based upon the Vita release, but seeing as it’s one of the best games on the platform, we’re getting increasingly excited about this PS4 re-imagining.
The Forest
Forget elaborate plots and top-notch writing; sometimes all you need is a pretty forest and a horde of hungry cannibals. The Forest was one of the more spectacular looking titles announced during PlayStation Experience, and its trailer confidently showcased the title’s fusion of first-person exploration, tower defence, and melee combat.
Until Dawn
One of the highlights during Sony’s lengthy PlayStation Experience keynote, Until Dawn’s surprise crowd participation really sold the potential of this title as a party game. It also looks really good, with some amazing character models and lighting effects. Our favourite feature, though? The gruff antagonist, who’s clearly modelled himself after one of the members of Slipknot. We always liked the bongo player with the big nose.
Wattam
What is Wattam? Well, all we know is that it’s the latest title from Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi, and involves cubes, hats, and dynamite. There’s not a lot to go on in this trailer, but if it’s anything like Noby Noby Boy, we won’t be able to contain our excitement.

The forest looked pretty good. Kinda reminded me of a game called Betrayal that I reviewed on PC a while ago
Until Dawn was a pretty intriguing way for a new gaming style.
Until Dawn is like a Stephen King version of Heavy rain (controls, clowns and all).
I will buy haha.
Kratos in Shovel Knight? What an inspired move. Tearaway is looking more like a proper remake then a straight port. I also think SharePlay will do wonders for Until Dawn.
I feel like I'm one of the few people not completely angered over the Final Fantasy 7 announcement. I feel it's not a bad move, and it doesn't "confirm" that 7 won't be getting a remake. Nor does it mean we can't push a bit for them to add a bit more before releasing (don't feel it's necessary so much but if that's what people want).
Super Time Force Ultra. Wasn't even a good trailer but it's the only game that looks remotely interesting.
@Cloud7794 I thought it was hilarious to be honest. Everybody and his wife thought "IT'S HERE! REMAKE!" and the faces in the crowds at the show looked like children on Christmas Day. Then it was just a port of the slightly updated PC version and every person in the crowd (and 99.9% of people online) looked like they'd just been told their parents were seriously ill.
The Forest looks amazing. The way you can craft and build your "fort" will make for a lot of fun and tense battles with the cannibals
Off topic but push square needs an app. Same with NL and PX
On a low note, disappointed at FFVII Port, like everyone else. we had port last gen. Not what we want Sony!
But on a high note, Gang Beasts!!! Super Pumped for that game!! also no "no no man's sky"? I thought the planetary travel was dope
@BetweenTheTrees agree, and also a revamp of the commenting replying system.
Shovel Knight for me, great little trailer topped off by Kratos, which was the kind of surprise you need for a show like this. Great move.
Only one of those really interests me and thats The Forest. Need to see more on Until Dawn. I have way too many PS4 games at the minute anyways and Im thinking about 3rd party games until Uncharted 4 and No Mans Sky drop next year.
The Forest and Until Dawn look great and I can't wait.
Wattam was kinda cute, but not enough to tell anything.
LBP3 and Tearaway will obviously be good, just not high on my list. Not my style of game.
The rest don't personally appeal.
I'm not the type to moan but isn't it time to drop the surge of retro type games for the PS4? All we have been having since the PS4 has been released on PS+ is free retro type games, I'm not interested and never will be. I know the developers have to start from somewhere but come on...... I didn't buy the most powerful games console on the Planet to play games that I may have played 15 years ago on my Megadrive, what happened to progress????
I went a little of tangent on my last comment but what I'm trying to say really is more games like the forest please
It's quite meaningless to be honest, of course if one of two manufactures goes down the "dumping price" route (I saw Xbox One - without kinect though - with an android tablet and a free game for 399 euros here...) it's not really comparable data in my book. The One has moved SO FAR away from its initial vision for only one reason: to be able to compete. The only valid point for getting the One - in my book - is if you take a huge interest in their exclusive games but otherwise, meh.
I'm very disappointed that you didn't include the 10 second clip of two men smoking on a train. That was clearly the standout trailer at the PlayStation Experience, and it's disgusting that it isn't represented here.
Joking aside, my favourite trailer was the one for Wattam. Because what even is that game?
Damn people where's the love for Tearaway?! I really hope it sells this time on PS4. Superb game.
Other than that Super Time Force is probably my most wanted from this lot..
@Dodoo People are waiting, I presume, to see what is added. They said there would be sufficient additional content but we're still waiting to find out what it was. Yes, on Vita it's really good but I know I won't be buying it again unless there's a lot of new stuff and, most importantly, replay incentives. Once I finished the game there was no feeling or reason to ever touch it again - and I haven't.
To be honest, my top spot for the show is still the UC4 gameplay reveal - the elaborate level design and properly implemented verticality should be a big step forward for the series.
As far as the games represented here go, I'd say Shovel Knight and Until Dawn take the top spots for me. Wattam has me interested if only because I loved the Katamari games, and am always intrigued to see what they come up with next!
@rastamadeus Yeah you're right. There would need to be enough new content for people ro double-dip. I believe MM said there would be about 40% new content, which is enough for me.
I really meant though that I hope a lot of new players try it out on PS4 as many people haven't played it at all yet....
