And that, as they say, is the end of that. The past twelve months have been impressive for PlayStation Plus, with Sony giving away over $1,300 worth of software. However, the premium subscription service did come under fire at some points in 2014, primarily due to the emphasis on some less than stellar indie titles. It looks like the manufacturer has taken that feedback to heart, as January's lineup promises a rip-roaring start to 2015. Don't forget that there's still time to win a 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 in the platform holder's multiplayer competition, too.
PlayStation 4
If you couldn't stand the smarmy smirk of Delsin Rowe in PS4 exclusive inFAMOUS: Second Son, then its standalone prequel inFAMOUS: First Light should be more up your neon-soaked street. Starring punk princess Fetch, this adds plenty of replayability to a strong core formula by implementing combat arenas that are curiously compulsive. There's a ton more story to soak up if you're eager to return to Seattle, too.
The Swapper - Cross-buy with PS3 and Vita
Puzzle platformers may be dime a dozen these days, but The Swapper stands out from the crowd with its home made backdrops and delicious soundtrack. Stranded in an isolated environment, you'll need to use a cloning device to escape from this ethereal otherworld. It can be a bit finicky at points, but this is one of those smaller budget titles that you really shouldn't overlook.
PlayStation 3
There was a time when Prototype was billed as a direct competitor to Sucker Punch's inFAMOUS series, so it's strange to see the two side-by-side in this month's PlayStation Plus lineup. The sequel does away with drab protagonist Alex Mercer, and puts you in the shoes of Sgt. James Heller instead. Your mission is to use your various superpowers to kill off the franchise's former lead β before he bores you to death.
Something of a passion project for Capcom and WayForward, DuckTales Remastered is a gorgeous high-definition remaster of the Nintendo Entertainment System classic. Pairing vibrant sprites with stunning polygonal environments, this release plots the return of Scrooge McDuck's original voice actor Alan Young, and sees you pogo-jumping through dozens of refreshed stages.
PlayStation Vita
Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition - Cross-buy with PS3
Believe it or not, there was a time when Duke Nukem was one of gaming's biggest franchises β and Duke Nukem 3D underlined the potty mouthed protagonist's popularity. A port of the recent PC re-release, this is the definitive edition of 3D Realms' ginormous first-person shooter, packing tons of enhanced expansion packs alongside the original landmark release.
Woah Dave! - Cross-buy with PS4 at a later date
The latest game by the team behind the BIT.TRIP series sees you attempting to survive an alien invasion while lining your pockets with as many pennies as possible. An unusual fusion of Chuck Rock and the original, old-school Mario Bros arcade cabinet, this may be worth keeping an eye on β despite its relatively low-budget looks.
What's taken your fancy this time, then? Are you looking forward to tripping the light fantastic in inFAMOUS: First Light, or are you curious just what the heck Woah Dave! is all about? Shout or scream in the comments section below.

Good start to the year
BTW, Happy New Year to all you guys at Pushsquare.
Its a brilliant site with great articles and reviews.
@blah01 Thanks for reading.
Believe it or not (AAAAHM WALKIN' ON AIR!--sorry) I'm most stoked for Prototype 2 as I've been borderline interested in that game since release. I don't think I'd ever buy it, but I'll certainly try it for free.
Anyone have any hands on?
Woah Dave tho -_____-
@glassmusic Weirdly, I actually got the Platinum in it, but I don't remember much about it at all. I think you can throw helicopters, which I seem to recall being reasonably enjoyable.
Ps4 free games seem 2 be getting better
I didn't realize that both The Swapper and Duke Nukem would be available for PS3 as well. I will be giving those a shot along with Prototype 2.
I all ready have DuckTales.
Swapper is the one I am looking forward to playing
Not pony tails or cotton tails, no, Ducktales, (woo oo).
Yeah I'm excited about Ducktales. I have the first prototype game, it'll be fun to play the second one.
@Rogue76 - Best theme song in the history of TV.
Is psn down again. Im having no emd of trouble even loading my friends list and its just signed me out now cant sign in. Its a complete joke this network is now. Aaaaargggghhh
im furious
@get2sammyb That's basically the exact impression I got from the game, going off of the coverage it got. Passable, not memorable. Hey, for free, I might be going for that plat too!
Hopefully some good sales too. I'm dying to get rogue legacy and ratchet trilogy on the VITA. NA store of course
Happy new year guys, best ps coverage on the Internet, here's to another great year!
DN3D cross buy is mentioned on the US blog, but not on the EU one, weird.. Hope it's just a typo.
@glassmusic Here's the review I don't remember writing: https://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps3/prototype_2
@DrClayman Thanks for reading. I'm sure Duke Nukem will be cross-buy in both regions.
Since there wasn't a PS+ sales this holiday I just bought Skyrim/Bioshock Infinite/Bioshock today.
Did the PS3 version of Skyrim ever get fixed-fixed? I know there were a dozen or so patches and updates but I never read if they actually worked or not.
Happy New Year everyone. hmm, just realized it turned midnight in London 55 minutes ago so I guess I'm a bit late w/ the well wishes. oh well, I mean well.
Prototype 2 is a nice addition, though I doubt I will dig out the PS3 for it, and I already own Ducktales. The rest is just more meh. Not really Sony's fault, not a big enough library on the PS4 to be giving away anything of substance yet.
Always bet on Duke!
@rjejr Yeah, Skyrim's much better once you've got all of the patches installed.
I voted for Duke but I'm also getting DuckTales. I'm also considering InFamous, but I don't know if I'm going to play it right away. My plan has been to play all the games in order and I haven't even started the first one yet...
@get2sammyb - Thanks, good to know. Now I need to get the bracket for my new 12GB, I have the HDD waiting.
So you going to ask everyone about the new logo? I might not have even noticed except for your Twitter feed (you got a new logo, TW got a nice bottle of single malt, doesn't seem fair). The all white background in the comments section is a bit hard on the eyes, you need more commercial support for 2015.
Nothing here for me, Infamous sucks, the kids might get some fun outta the freebies for the old consoles
