Square Enix has heard your pleas for more high-definition remasters, and has responded by leaking Final Fantasy X|X-2 HD Remaster for the PlayStation 4. The role-playing re-release – which will be exclusive to Sony’s next-gen system – launched earlier this year on the PlayStation 3 and Vita, scoring a strong 8/10 in our review.
Hilariously, the publisher has yet to actually confirm the forthcoming version for Sony’s futuristic format, but a listing for the title – along with box art – appeared on the company’s own official store overnight. It’s since been pulled, but a cached page can be found through here, confirming that it will deploy in 2015.
Of course, this suggests that Kingdom Hearts will also follow suit at some point – especially seeing as HD 2.5 ReMIX performed particularly poorly in the UK sales charts this week. Are you up for another round of Blitzball, or have you had your fill of these titles on the PS3 and Vita? Act out the lake scene in the comments section below.

Since I own this on Vita, I probably will not buy this again, MAYBE if the price is right and has cross save. I do hope the Kingdom Hearts collections come to PS4 since I'm still behind on getting them. I've only played the original PS2 version of the first game and the second DS game.
Bought this on PS3 like a month ago for $20.
I hope that if they do the same for KH, at least they bother this time to have both games from the start in the same package.
@sinalefa - I feel pretty confident both KH box sets will release as a collection on PS4 long before KH3 releases. They need to sell as many copies of the PS3 version as possible first though.
So, FFX: The Remaster - REMASTERED.
This makes up for Tomb Raider and the FF VII troll...
YAY!
@Gamer83 - The only thing that will ever make up for that FFVII troll is an FFVII remake w/ the FFXV engine. Maybe not even then.
If anything in that 2 1/2 show could have been done via tweet or youtube trailer it was that news. Waiting for over 2 hours into the show made it even worse. Maybe if they had flipflopped that and UC4 we wouldnt have all gotten our hopes up.
@rjejr
As far as I'm concerned, nothing SE can do can make up for the way it has sh*t on both the Sony and Nintendo fanbases over the years despite those being the ones that support this pathetic excuse of a company.
@rjejr I would like a FFVII game where you play as Cloud taking place after the events of Dirge of Cerberus that uses the FFXV engine
as for FFVII while it does look outdated by todays standards I reckon a full remaster will just change it too much and it just won't be the same game no matter how much care they take in making it
they should just redo the graphics and cutscenes and nothing else, basicaly a re-skin not a full remaster
Final Fantasy X was the last actual Final Fantasy I ever bought .. I didn't even finish it @.@ . Perhaps I will grab this. The game wasn't bad I just got side tracked I'd be more excited if kingdom hearts remixes were heading to ps4 though .
Both Final Fantasy X and the KH remasters would be instant buys for my PS4
Great for people who are yet to grab the PS3 version, but tbh I reckon once you've hit a certain point, there's not much more graphical wizardry you can do whilst continuing to use the same (PS2 era) source material - I'd be fairly surprised if this ended up looking much different in comparison to the PS3 version.
Either way, it's come too late for me. As someone who Platinumed the PS3/PSV version earlier in the year, I can safely say it will probably be another year or two at least before I dive back in to FFX again!
However, KH on PS4 I would be happy to hold out for - I was purposefully avoiding the PS3 collections until a release date for 3 is confirmed, so I can run through them all closer to the time. But if they come out on PS4 I might be forced to grab them as soon as they're available!
@rjejr
I have a friend who is really upset with Squeenix, since he bought KH 1.5 and when they released 2.5 they announced another edition with both together.
And to be honest, I did not pick any up since I am not paying $80 for two old games, no matter how good they are, when they should have been bundled together from the start, as they did with FFX.
@Gamer83 - You know, it actually bothers me how far removed they are from when they were my favorite company Squaresoft and I wanted to play everything they put out. I'm not even sure what happened, greed, corporate incompetence, inmates running the asylum, desertion of the top talent? All of the above? Oh how the mighty have fallen.
@FullbringIchigo - "they should just redo the graphics and cutscenes"
Well that's pretty much what I meant by remaster, sure as hell don't want a reboot like DmC got. Though TR reboot turned out really well.
I think it would need the music and sound effects redone as well, I'm assuming the original score, even though it was epic and orchestral, was in stereo and it should be in 5.1 now.
But no, I don't want the fighting engine remade, it would still need to have the same turn based mechanic. Ir's been a long while since even my 2nd playthru so that there might be some other things they could iron out (I think I always get screwed in that spaceship code sequence) Every game has bugs.
If they ever remake FF8 that Draw system can get cut, I'd be more than fine w/o that.
I'm getting more and more annoyed by the PS4 not being BC. I have this huge catalog of digital games that I purchased over the years, but I need as much as 3 consoles to play them. Why on earth don't they make digital purchases a valid option, not just by being cheaper than psysical, but also by always making sure I can play everything on the strongest hardware.
Sure, they'll launch PSnow in a few months...but I have to start paying again for a game I already own. Same thing as with this and KH: I own them all, but in order to play them on my PS4, I'll need to buy them again: that's freaking triple dipping! You can't expect people to hold on to their PS3s forever now can you?
This is for the players*
(*who didn't own a console last generation or like to pay for the same games twice.)
@rjejr yeah sounds would need redoing too midi files won't cut it nowadays
as for the spaceship I never had a problem with that, the one that used to trip me up was stopping the train because you never really knew if you were doing it right until you got to the end and only then you knew because you didn't crash so some kind of indicatior would have been nice
I plan on getting it for PS3, since I'm trying to limit the amount of rehashes I'm getting for PS4. I also still have my original copy of FFX on PS2, but I want this because of bonus content and because I never played X-2.
Getting this for PS4 actually seems odd to me. It's like getting a remaster of a remaster.
@sinalefa Except, y'know, you're not paying for 2 games - you're paying for 4 full games plus all of the story content for 2 more. Arguably the package here is just as attractive an offer here as FFX/X-2 was, if not more so (especially when you consider how pants X-2 was)!
@Boerewors Unfortunately, it's just a consequence of the different architectures. They wanted to make PS4 easier to program for, so they had to ditch the CELL. That meant no backwards compatibility.
@get2sammyb
I understand, but they sold me the games and now they've gotta come with a solution like streaming or emulation. They're making their problem ours and are actually making money on it as well. There are few businesses I can think of where customers are getting screwed over so much and just accept it as if it's inevitable.
Sweet. I didn't buy on ps3 cause I thought it looked good enough already on ps2, but now I'll bite. I'll bite like that chocobo eating monster. 😛
So these games get TWO HD re-releases, but yet FF VII will still look like 1997 garbage when it's released on PS4.
I see.
@SteveButler2210
I thought it only had the main games. I still think they could have put all in one disc and charge $60 for it, like MS did with Halo. If you are interested in KH you will end up getting both discs and Squeenix knows it.
@sinalefa very true, but I get the feeling the Dev teams for the KH remasters are much smaller than on the Halo collection, and with there being such a high demand for it I think it was a case of wanting to get it to public as soon as possible. Also the Halo games are all as they originally were - some of the KH games include content never before released outside Japan, which probably then needed extra translation effort.
Super glad I waited to get this
No, I don't support sellouts.
Get bent SQEnix.
Just played and beat FFX on Vita. So no, I'm not buying it again. How many times do they expect to sell us the same game? Every time a new console comes out they expect us to rebuy the game again? Yes a new console came out and I bought it- for NEW games. If a person hasn't bought it already (and it was made abundantly available on both PS3 and Vita), do they really think they're going to be interested now? Or do they expect the ones who bought it to rebuy it again a year later just because it's on a new platform?
As for KH Collection (IF it comes to PS4), that I will buy. But that's only because I didn't have the opportunity to play the one on PS3. If I had, there's no friggin way Id be buying the same game again a year later. When it's one game, it's not a problem. When there's 50+ games getting remade a year or two later it's a huge problem.
I already asked my grandma to buy me the PS3 version for Christmas, but I'll probably also buy the PS4 version eventually, as soon as I can get my hands on a PS4.
(sometimes I wish you could download physical consoles/handhelds likes you can with games lol)
