All of those cheap and cheerful 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 consoles sold out at the PlayStation ’94 pop-up shop in minutes last week, and were subsequently posted on eBay for astronomical fees. Fortunately, there’s still time for you to get in on the scalping, as Sony has more of the limited edition systems to sell in the UK – but you’re going to need to know your stuff if you want to get in on the action.
To be fair to the manufacturer, it is at the very least attempting to make this all about the fans, and so you’ll need to jump through a series of hoops if you want to buy one of these online. So, what do you need to do? Well, from 11:00AM GMT on Monday, 15th December, the platform holder will launch a page through here. This will include 300 different PlayStation heroes. You’ll need to study them.
It’ll then send out a clue from the PlayStation UK Twitter account once a day with the hashtag #20YearsOfCharacters, and you’ll need to click on the corresponding personality on the aforementioned website. If you’ve got it right, you’ll be taken to a special GAME webpage, which will allow you to fill in your details. If you’re among the first 100 people to do this each day, you’ll be contacted by the retailer at a later date to pay for your machine.
If you’re not in the first 100, there’s still hope, as you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win the very last device. Did you follow all of that? Pretty complicated, huh – but well worth it if you want one of the commemorative consoles. We’ve included all of the times that the clues will be sent out down below, so you may want to set up some alarms on your phone or something. Oh, and should you need it, there’s more information through here.
Clue Times in GMT
- Monday, 15th December - 16:00PM
- Tuesday, 16th December - 17:00PM
- Wednesday, 17th December - 14:00PM 2pm
- Thursday, 18th December - 08:00AM
- Friday, 19th December - 12:00PM

I don't get Sony if they were so p*ssed about the ebay issue why not put the 20th edition on general sale as there is obvious demand at the normal retsil price for the console.
That way the guys who are trying to make dosh on ebay end up owning nothing special anymore and the bottom drops out of their market. Job done for sony.
Now thats 4theplayers
Basically they are saying "you arent a real fan if you dont guess these characters and are within the first hundred".
What a load of crap.
Just put it on sale and be done with all this nonsense.
Fans who want it will buy it. Period. Full stop.
@ToOGoodOfAPlaya Well, I guess the clue system is designed to ensure that people who are actually PlayStation fans get a head start. I agree with @TomKongPhooey, though - should have just put this on general sale for a little while. Massive oversight, in my opinion.
After 34 minutes = 'This WebPage is not available' :-/ (on eu.playstation.com/20yearsofcharacters site) I wouldn't mind trying these things they think up but when the internet don't work when they do then 'WHAT IS THE POINT!?!?!?' (i need to calm down it's only been 30'ish minutes i will probably be dead by the end of the week if not)
@Carl-G Yeah, it's not loading for me either. Great start!
I may be on Christmas break but actually can't be asked with this kind of duck hunt especially when the website doesn't load, Sony just seem to be making a special occasion less special with their handling.
@Jazzer94 Yeah when it comes to anything online, Sony seem to be pretty bad at it!
Well that's me out of the runnings - my work browser doesn't support the page, and I've no way of updating it. Oh well tbh I don't really have the cash to afford one, so I'll just have to wait until I get home and enter myself for the chance to win each day...
And America is still high and dry. Please, sirs
Took me over 25 minutes to load the page. It's another online-related shambles by Sony...
How can they underestimate demand so much?
