Sony may be basking in the glory of a successful PlayStation Experience showing, but its engineers back home are fighting fires as we type. Right now, the PlayStation Network is facing some connection issues, with Lizard Squad claiming responsibility for the outage. The group has been attacking gaming services for several weeks now, also bringing down Xbox Live.
Sadly, given the nature of these attacks - which essentially overload servers with massive waves of fake traffic - they're incredibly hard to combat, so your best hope is that the Japanese giant's able to rectify the situation swiftly. In the meantime, you could tune into our PlayStation Experience live stream, which can be found through here.
Update: Sony's now commented on the outage: "We are aware that users are having issues connecting to PSN. Thanks for your patience as we investigate."
Update 2: Things appear to be running like butter again, so hopefully that's the end of that for a while.

This is actually the first place I've heard talk about tonight's outage. I haven't been able to get on for an hour or two, but I'm not at a loss, as it's given me some bonding time with Resogun.
This is the first time i havnt been able to play online. Stupid hackers. They accomplish nothing by doing this.
@goonow @Punkinhead145 From what I can tell - and please don't quote me, as I'm obviously not an engineer working on this stuff - it looks like the login aspect of PSN has been taken down, meaning you can't actually sign in, but if you're already up and playing, things are working just fine.
@get2sammyb
Well that explains a bit, as I've had no success logging in, even with a good internet connection. I guess it's time to let my PS4 sleep for awhile then.
Yeah me and my irl friends were trying to get started in PS All-Stars Battle Royale earlier but this happened. Sucks
Updated with official comment from Sony.
I am beyond sick of these no-life, basement-dwelling nerds. The only people hurt by this are gamers who did nothing to these scumbags, too bad there's nothing that can be done about this sh*t.
I had to turn off my PS4's internet because it couldn't connect to EA servers on NFS: Rivals. Stinks for people who want to play online though. I wish these guys could just get locked up in jail already, but they won't, of well.
They can't get laid so they have to find ways to make others miserable as well.
So why hasn't anyone caught these guys already. Are law enforcement agencies that incompatent?
@Tasuki
What could law enforcement really do though? These people are d*cks but unfortunately that's not a crime.
God cant these people just stop, this is stupid and supsr annoying.
@Gamer83 What about the bomb threat? Surely that must have been illegal if nothing else was.
I'm pretty sure these kinds of attacks are illegal - they have to be, right? Just checked on Google, and apparently you can get up to ten years in prison for doing this in the UK. The problem is tracking down the perpetrators.
Thanks - explains why I had trouble launching FC. Eventually got in and played offline mode, but it took a while to even be able to do that.
Damn, those xbots are really mad about street fighter 5 huh?
So are we sure this is a DDOS attack by those lamely named script kiddies (cant you leave their name out, they dont deserve the exposure) and not the N Koreans POd about that movie?
I couldnt get on a few hours ago but I could still watch Seinfeld on Crackle. Glad I DL Mirrors Edge a few hours earlier, missing out on a free game b/c of this would have been annoying.
Funny, commercial for The Interview now.
it was working again for me after about an hour and 40 minutes.
sony did a pretty good job this time, the loser squad are losing the fight.
The loser squad... A bunch of computer freaks Sat in their parents basement achieving nothing more than annoying millions of gamers.
Sort your lives out.
@rjejr yeah I was just in time with downloading the free EA games as well.mirrors ege is pretty cool by the way, its nice to play something completely different
I am very surprised that these little rats havent been caught yet or does the goverment not care? They have the means to catch them but haven't weird
@KAPADO
Actually, these pieces of sh*t have threatened that on Christmas day they're going to take down Xbox Live 'for good.' Wouldn't surprise me if they pull it off or at least knock XBL down for a few days. Doesn't seem like there's anything Sony or MS can do to combat this either because these people have gotten to both networks multiple times now.
damn it do these prats have nothing better to do with their sad lifes than to try a ruin things for other people
people who hack or do ddos attacks should be banned from accessing any type of computer for life
I logged in about an hour ago to play Destiny, haven't had any issues at my end.
Judging from their twitter profile, they're based in Finland so the best bet is for people to point their DDoS attacks from Finland.
I would love to get my hands on this Lizard Squad! Surely what they're doing is illegal and as such they should be treated as criminals. They should be hunted down and...
Ugh. These freakin' hackers need to bugger off and sort their lives out...
Are these idiots actually a connected group or is it just a bunch of unconnected losers using the same group name? Who knows. Wish they'd piss off though.
If you would like to get back at this "Loser squad", their public information has been posted here: http://pastebin.com/uXsmt8TQ
I do not know if this information is legit or not...
I wasn't able to download Mirrors Edge because the PS3's NA store was down even though the Vita's store was fine. I demand my free copy, Sony. You may not be making the games I want, but you had better not prevent me from getting games that are already out.
And, this is when I pat myself on the back for not subbing to online subscription memberships. Save the money. Save the headache. Attack after attack after attack.... Heard they're targeting Xbox Live for Christmas... DDoS all you want ya scavengers, you won't stop me from gaming!
They attack it because it's successful.
