Holy cow! Capcom has accidentally hit the web with a Hadouken of epic proportions, as it’s released a teaser trailer confirming that Street Fighter V will rise up exclusively on the PlayStation 4 and PC. While details are scarce right now – short of a few character model clips – it would appear that this is the "head turner" that the publisher was referring to.
We’re guessing that this is probably a timed exclusive of some kind, but seeing as Microsoft has been paying to keep titles like Rise of the Tomb Raider off Sony’s machine, we can’t blame the Japanese manufacturer for fighting back. Of course, it's possible that Capcom may simply have decided that this sequel would make the most sense on the PS4 without any incentives from the platform holder – we'll have to wait and see.
For now, though, you should probably expect much more information about this to be revealed at The Game Awards and PlayStation Experience.
[ Sadly the video's been pulled by Capcom. You can watch a mirror on Daily Motion. ]

WOW!
Well that happened.
Garbage move by Sony. I hate that they stooped low to M$ level and did something like this. You're Sony ! You own some of the best studios in the world you don't have to moneyhat and stoop to a low level like M$. This isn't exciting if this is the big announcement.
@Dohv We don't know the details yet. The last time Street Fighter was mentioned, Capcom indicated that it wasn't profitable to continue the series. Maybe Sony is co-developing like Deep Down. We'll have to wait and see.
Or, as @KratosMD points out, maybe Sony didn't do anything, and this is simply a case of Capcom backing the PS4 audience.
I don't think Capcom, in this day and age can afford to be playing the exclusive game.
But whose:
It'll be humorous if it is timed exclusive and Sony skips that detail in the reveal like Microsoft did for Tomb Raider.
On the subject of the game, the character models look really nice. Can't wait to see more.
Good to see Sony hit back a little bit. That was a garbage move by MS with Tomb Raider. I'm not exactly sure this one will have the same kind of impact but it shows Sony at least has a little bit of a backbone left and it's Street Fighter... it's going to be f**king awesome.
@Dohv @get2sammyb
Last I knew Capcom is in a terrible place financially. Not that Sony is exactly great off either but it's in a better spot than Capcom, so I wouldn't be shocked at all if this may be a case of Sony funding the game for them. Could be Capcom deciding 'we gave MS Dead Rising, lets show the Sony fanbase we still care about them,' but Capcom has never been like that. Granted I don't think the following for SF is huge on the Xbox brand so maybe that is the case. I'll be interested to get the story behind the decision.
@KratosMD Tekken 7 is not PS4 only. What are you talking about ?
Why would Capcom choose to keep this on PS4 if Sony money isn't involved? This isn't an indie dev with no time to port.
About time. I was getting tired of SF4 being released constantly. I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if Ultra SF4 was going to PS4, since Ono's a freaking troll.
But yeah, the game's looking real good. I'm interested in what they'll do to the system. Maybe bring parrying back?
Microsoft with TR and now Sony with Street Fighter 5! However, what if SF5 is actually an exclusive instead of it being a timed one? We might find out during this weekend's events!
Well that's a lost for the Xbox One
@KratosMD Oh wow sorry. Didn't mean to sound like a jerk. It must be timed because when asked about other platforms the creator said "No information right now".
please watch the language -Tasuki-
@XFsWorld
I don't know, I think SF has always been more associated with Sony, hell even with SF 4 skipping Nintendo systems until 3DS the series is more associated with Nintendo as well. I think this is actually a bigger move for Japan where Sony needs to start doing a much better job selling the PS4. It's a step in the right direction but more are needed over there.
@KratosMD That link doesn't prove it is a PS4 exclusive at all??
In fact... "it would make use of the Unreal Engine 4 game engine which would allow the game to be developed for multiple platforms"
Under the 'Platforms' category it clearly states that PS4 requires citation. In case you are not aware, that means that it has been pulled out of thin air.
@Gamer83 If that's the case and Capcom needed money to make it happen and Sony stepped in and help, then I'm all for it. But if it's just Sony being arrogant and purposely blocking games off other platforms just for the heck of it like M$, then I'm against it. That's just my opinion though.
@KratosMD Tekken's PS4 only too? Didn't know that. If they're both permanently exclusive then that's a bad loss for Xbox, since Street Fighter and Tekken are two of the best fighters around.
It also shouldn't surprise me. Most of the FGC (or the serious players at least) prefer playing on Playstation from what I know.
Is this exclusive due to the PS4 and Pc being slightly more powerful than the Xbones? Fromsoftware said the same thing about Bloodhound that the PS4 was the only console capable of running it
@Dohv
That's a fair stance. I'm not a fan of buying exclusivity either, which is why I raged when MS and the scumbags at Crystal Dynamics f**ked over the PS fanbase on Rise of the Tomb Raider. Though I was more pissed at SquareEnix/Crystal Dynamics than MS, MS is trying to sell consoles, have to do what you have to do, but the PS fanbase supported Tomb Raider in greater numbers, CD didn't have to stick up the middle finger at them but did, so f**k that company straight to hell. Unlike CD, Capcom actually is in trouble financially, this could be a case of Sony moneyhatting or funding developing or it could be Capcom just picking the console it thinks makes the most sense . We don't know yet. If it turns out to be a moneyhat, it sucks but MS started it and Sony has to play the game to some degree.
Guilty Gear xrd exclusivity , now Street Fighter V. Oh it's so great to be a fighting game fan and a PS4 owner !
@ShoryukenKid
Yup... MK X is going to rule all though.
@KratosMD yes I totally agree look at a game like the upcoming Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN-...ps3 and ps4 only so I can definitely see tekken 7 and street fighter 5 as possible ps4 exclusive.
This is great for Sony and PS gamers.
Just wish beat-em-ups didn't bore me to death!
Certainly a big surprise, especially the Tomb Raider style move Sony seems to have done.
Damn I'm sad and mad now guys...why?!? no Vita!?!?!?!
@italodance could happen if we are lucky. They might announce it later on like they did for street fighter x tekken on the vita.
One thing I've just thought is that this could be a Japanese trailer, where it would make sense for it to be an exclusive. I guess we're going to have to wait for more details... But this is how things stand now!
MS has always been far behind in the exclusives category...hopefully, continued moves like this force them to roll out a new Conker or Banjo-Kazooie game. Anyway, not much of a Street Fighter fan, but I'd definitely buy it if it were a PS4 exclusive...
@Gamer83 lol I can respect that as MKX looks killer ! And we can't forget Tekken 7 All 4 games will be in my library though and be played for many many years
@get2sammyb
Oh yeah i forgot to mention that, which is the reason why I'm not getting...
For a lack of a better term fudged off. That, as well as why would Sony pay for console exclusivity (and not full on, without PC) and i need the full story before i reach for the pitchfork.
Really PS4 console exclusive?
As a fanboy I see that sony saw that tomb raider mive and answered as a gamer this is sad unless its a permanent exclusive which I don't buy, has to be 6 months to a year.
But the fsnboy in me loves it. Keep it coming capcom
@Gamer83
I remember when capcom was asked, why Dead rising 2 was exclusive to X1. They did say that for this new generation, they will do some exclusive games for both X1 and PS4. I wasnt surprised by this because they did forshadow it earlier. However, i was dissappointed that this was announced before the PS experience. Unless capcom have something bigger to announce at the event. coughMonsterhuntercough. I just hope this is the the tip of the iceberg.
Could it not be a financial decision? I don't have any facts to back this up, lol, but as far as I'm aware, haven't fighting games always been more associated with Sony, superior d-pad and all that? Maybe they thought why develop for an additional platform if it's not gonna make money on it? I could be wrong, in which case, feel free to enlighten me!
@Kayoss
Sony has enough good first party studios that this should only be the start. If this conference comes and goes and there is still nothing from some of these other teams and the biggest announcement is an SF 5 exclusive, as much as I like the SF series, that will be a disappointment. Part of what made Tomb Raider such an exciting announcement for MS is that it's just another on top of some other great exclusives like the already released Forza Horizon 2 and Sunset Overdrive and the upcoming Quantum Break, Crackdown and Halo 5. Frankly, Sony's first parties have to come out swinging. The fanboys keep defending them saying 'we know Sony's working on games, they don't have to show them,' that's f**king bullsh*t. It's been over a year now and aside from Sucker Punch, Sony's first party teams have been massive failures. Time to step up, reward the faith myself and others have shown by investing $400+ in this console.
That blows.. Paticularly since I like the Xbox controller for fighting games. I'd trade Tomb Raider for Street Fighter anyday! Oh well, time to invest in a good fightstick! I need to bolster my PS4 collection anyways.
Hopefully this isn't the gen that sees MS and Sony trading 3rd party exclusives!
@blaze8937 is Xrd a timed or all out exclusive? Has it even released yet? I don't remember the release date...
@Sir_JBizzle it comes out in a week or two and as far as I know its just an exclusive...not a timed one just like how blazblue chrono phantasma is a vita and ps3 exclusive.
@Gamer83
I understand the frustration. As a PS4 owner myself i can see the lack of first party games so far. However, i believe Sony have a plan.
1. Build a great relationship with Indie developers
2. Outsell the competitor
3. Establish exclusives or timed exclusives that can provide an advantage over the competitor. As we all know, DLC exclusive was big for the xbox for call of duty and other 3rd party games.
4. Sony first party studio work on new IPs but at the same time release popular franchises onto the ps4 (god of war, uncharted, etc...)
This will equal to consumers being satisfy. If history told us anything, is that Sony never had issue supporting their system. During the first year PS3, we saw the same trend. But as the year gone by, we saw great exclusives and new ips released for the PS3. I dont see why this will be different for the PS4 because the PS3 became the second best selling console last gen.
@get2sammyb
Was the console war baiting in the news article really necessary, I mean we know that Microsof money hatting the game was sh*tty, but it seems that Square did it so the game could be made on budget. Likewise Ono has already stated that Capcom is in a bad place and Street Fighter 5 wasn't on the table a while back due to the cost of investment, hence why Dead Rising was funded by Microsoft and that free to play game by sony. Logic would dictate that Sony is paying for the game simply because it wouldn't have been made as a multiplatform game.
Kinda lost interest in Street Fighter after Alpha 3 (perfection) and the three and four series never really did anything from me. Keen to see how it turns out though as, at the end of the day, it's Street Fighter.
@Dohv Yeah as Sony have never once in their twenty years of PlayStation consoles paid for exclusivity have they? Pull your head out of the sand. The "low level" (as you call it) is somewhere Sony have been for years, along with all other console makers as it's what they all do.
As much as I like the Street Fighter series, this isn't really a that big a deal.
It's about as much of a "head turner" as Infinity Ward saying they have a new CoD coming out.
That said, as mentioned earlier, the models look great and it might be the revive the series needs.
@shingi_70 I wasn't console baiting, so apologise if it came across that way. I also agree with your comment, but it's hard to say anything with authority until this is actually announced.
@Gamer83 I dunno. I'm sure we could have seen logos and teaser trailers for everything that it's got in the pipeline years ago, but I personally reckon it's better to show when you have something more meaningful. As long as the games are coming, it's all good in my opinion.
I don't think you're going to see more than two titles announced this weekend - if that!
I'm not asking for every game to be shown. People always jump to the extreme. I'm just asking for 4 or 5, Sony has enough studios that the nothing it has shown to this point is ridiculous.
@get2sammyb
Sorry just everyone is so amped up these days. Hell I traded my ps4 in for a Xbox one and I'm still excited. It sucks that SFV may not come to Xbox one but I'll have another PS4 probably come march.
Still its a good and dumb move for Sony.its good as it gibes them a somewhat exclusive fighter, it's dumb since Sony is bleeding money and it may have been more cost effective to develop a fighter from the ground up like KI.
I see Chun Li, and I assume other female characters, still have giant hands in Street Fighter 5, although it's not as bad as Street Fighter 4.
Also, I don't know why there are so much accusations of Sony paying for an exclusivity deal, if you missed it Street Fighter 5 is also going to be on PC. Yes, PC exists, it's a thing. And while a "console limited" exclusivity deal isn't impossible, it's extremely rare.

YYEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best news ive heard in years!!!! looks great! the wait to find out if makoto is in it is going to kill me though! AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH STREEEETFIIIGHTER 5!!!
EDIT: hey how do i post a gif ???
@Shingi_70: And the same can be said about MS and them throwing money at Square Enix for Rise of the Tomb Raider. Why didn't they build an adventure type game from the ground up like Uncharted?
In all honesty if I was a developer I would want my game to be played by as many people as possible and the only way to do that is by producing a version for every system. But then again I must be nuts to think that way.
Well these are the kinds of deals that would make me buy a PS4.
