The decorations are up, the turkey is defrosting, and the television is awash with awful, old films – it must be Christmas time. While we usually reserve WAYP for Saturdays, we figured that we'd pump out a special edition to celebrate the season. The focus this time is on your holiday as a whole. Are you planning to clear out your backlog? Is there a particular Platinum Trophy that you're desperate to grab? This is the place to reveal your plans.

Every Christmas, I make grand gaming plans. I plot out a list of ten or more titles that I'm going to complete, before facing the crushing reality that the holiday consists of little more than a few days. This year, I'm going to focus on just a handful of releases: Assassin's Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Grand Theft Auto V. I should be able to get through one of them, right?

'Tis the season to slaughter evil, and so I'll be brandishing blades as I dive into Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Ultimate Evil Edition. There isn't much better than getting fully engrossed in a fantasy world while being cosily wrapped up in a big jumper, but if the dreary colour schemes and copious amounts of blood bring down the festive mood, I'll be relaxing with the rather sparkly Tales of Hearts R, preferably in front of a lovely warm fire.

Provided Father Cimbles treats me right, I'll finally be tucking into a hefty main course of Dragon Age: Inquisition over the break. The rest of the staff won't shut up about it, so I suppose that it's best if I just knuckle down and get on with it. For dessert I'll be polishing off LittleBigPlanet 3's oh-so-obtainable Platinum Trophy, and LEGO Batman 3 will represent those after dinner mint things that leave you feeling thirsty for some reason. Christmas!

'Twas the morning of Christmas, and all through the house, were the shouts of four drunkards, playing Johann S. Joust. With its rules so simple, and a challenge so fair, if they're not too careful, they might break a chair. But tucked in one corner, sits this handsome young scribe, playing Assassin's Creed Unity, and Frozenbyte's Trine. [Very good – Ed]

Now that I've broken the seal on Dragon Age: Inquisition, I'm looking forward to immersing myself in a nice lengthy RPG over the Christmas period. I just hope that it lives up to the high expectations that I've built, due to the frequent praise for BioWare's latest from the rest of the Push Square crew.

I've got such a backlog of games that I could beat one or two everyday over the holidays – and I still wouldn't have made a dent in it. As such, I think that I'm going to let my backlog lay, and just spend some time with the game that I play most anyways: NHL 15. I'm also tempted to replay the opening episode to Tales from the Borderlands – it was so great that I find myself wanting to enjoy it again.

I'm taking my Vita to our family Christmas, where it's become a tradition to play kart racers – especially since my brother's favourite genre is racing games. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed will be well appreciated; the Dream Valley course incorporates the sights and sounds of NiGHTS that I associate with the festive season, and the Chilly Castle snow track from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg has a frosty winter vibe. Plus, I downloaded Resogun as an extra treat.

Since I'll be celebrating Christmas in Georgia and my own state, North Carolina, with all the relatives this week, I'll have games on my backlog and newly received ones to choose from and play. For my backlog, I'll make finishing Transistor and Metro 2033: Redux my main priority, but I would also like to speckle in some Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. With incoming gifts like Alien: Isolation and The Evil Within hopefully under the tree, I'll need to make some time for them as well and get my survival horror fix. Other than that, Merry Christmas to everyone!

With Christmas fast approaching, I've been tackling as much of my backlog as possible, recently finally beating Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Next up, nothing says Christmas more than tackling the horrors that await in The Evil Within. So far, I'm really enjoying how it feels like a Shinji Mikami game and brings back that classic Resident Evil style vibe. For all I know, I may have LittleBigPlanet 3 or DriveClub waiting underneath the Christmas tree to add to my list of games to play this holiday.
