We get spoon-fed quite a lot of information on a daily basis here at Push Square Towers, but the best part about the job is piecing together press releases, statements, and other tidbits in order to form an impression of the industry as it stands. One thing that we can't figure out, however, is what the heck Media Molecule is working on.
Most developers post job listings, and you can almost instantly figure out what they're building. Sucker Punch, for example, recently listed an advertisement for an open world action game – doesn't take a genius, does it? This video featuring founder Alex Evans and audio overlord Kenny Young is a little more cryptic, though.
In it, the duo chat pretty openly about a new audio programmer position, and explain that they're looking for someone who can build instruments that inspire people. It's all a bit ambiguous, but they refer to all of the features of the DualShock 4, and suggest that they're looking for someone who can take those and transform them into something that sounds amazing.
"We're not just looking for a programmer who 'does some audio'," the role overview reads, "we're looking for an exceptional individual who is passionate about the potential of audio and music creation in interactive entertainment, and can have an impact on our project by manifesting innovative, cutting edge work that exceeds all of our expectations."
The clip below confirms that the release will involve user-generated content, so we're going to assume that the person who gets the job will be responsible for building the tools that will allow you to make music in the game. Exactly what is the game, though? "A gigantic universe of online, live, social, [and] connected creativity," is all that the developer's giving away.
Fortunately, we'll find out for sure later this year...

Yes. Love Media Molecule. Even if they make a game I don't really enjoy (which hasn't happened yet), it's nice to know there's at least one developer who's innovating and won't put out a shooter just because it's guaranteed income.
Yeah, this sounds like it's going to be really 'out there'. I'm genuinely curious - though I can sense the cynics already as well. I imagine that this is going to push the boundaries of what's traditionally meant by the word 'game', so there'll definitely be lots of sceptics.
"Nobody knows what it means but it's provocative"
@get2sammyb - I thought the best part of your job would be the witty comment banter OK maybe thats just Mr.Anderson's gig.
Heard DOA in the supermarket today and thought of you (hate that song) so maybe its synchronocity and the new mM game will look like this.

Whatever it turns out to be, just please let it be better than Wii Music. Pretty please.
I'm a fan of Mm. They seem to be so creative, I'm sure they have a ton of ideas they've been dying to implement now that they get to do something other than LBP.
Read through this, got excited, then got the last sentence which involved the word online. Really hope they don't gear the project towards just multiplayer like a lot of other studios are
@rjejr Nah, the banter's the third best — after the unlimited office custard creams, of course.
Hopefully it has nothing to do with PS MOVE & Cam :-/
Wonder if the thing they ended e3 with a couple years ago is actually going to happen..strange that absolutely nothing has been heard about it since especially since the building part of sounded so good(in real time 3d..or whatever it was)..not sure about the instruments..but if the band created how they said it was then it was an impressive concept..
Hopefully it's a game that uses the camera. There isn't any reason to actually own the camera at the moment, at least to have it worth the money, so hopefully they start to create some titles that uses it. I know MOVE was not a big hit, but I still have the move wands and controllers and I remember Sony saying something before the PS4 was released, that you would be using them on the system, besides just the JUST DANCE titles that are seeming to become incredibly boring (enough with the Pop-crap music and katy perry junk).
@KAPADO that s*** cray

I see you're hip.Tip of the hat to you.
