The meme regarding the PlayStation 4's shortage of software is one of this author's favourites. We can understand why people were disgruntled with Sony's exclusives during the Christmas just gone, but a quick look at our internal review document will tell you all that you need to know about 2014's release schedule – there were more titles on PlayStation platforms than ever before.
And people are clearly investing in the Japanese giant's next-gen appliance, as more than 81.8 million retail and downloadable PS4 games have been sold to date. This figure comes alongside confirmation that the company has shifted 18.5 million devices, meaning that we can calculate that each owner has purchased on average about four games apiece thus far.
This is quite a staggering statistic when you think about it – especially when you take into account the abovementioned complaints. It's not a huge surprise, however, when you consider that all of the industry's biggest brands – like Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, and Battlefield – are present and correct on the manufacturer's new machine. And with a bumper lineup in 2015, the firm must be licking its lips.

Bought my ps4 in September and have only bought 2 games so far ... Destiny and TLOU (finished Left Behind last night - wow, just wow!). Going to get GTA 5 today. Looking forward to the year ahead!
I've probably bought about 20 ish since launch date although about a quarter were used, I've rented a few and bought a few psn games too. I'll probably buy less in 2015 I reckon despite the big hitters coming out, batman, uncharted, mgs will all be rentals unfortunately.
Seriously just FOUR average? Erm on my Xbox One I have 42 games... and about 30 of those I've purchased, the rest being EA Access, gold games, etc... four seems incredibly low by any means
@nekowhizz You're not average. That's a good attach rate.
I've got quite the backlog of game's on my PS4 I'm playing through, there are just to many game's to play. I went to buy Far Cry 4 & Dragon Age: Inquisition from Game the other day, but out of luck as thay sold out. Hopefully thay are back in stock soon, but noticed thay where in stock for the XboxOne. Wanted to play both Far Cry 4 & Dragon Age: Inquisition before I start some of my other new game's, hopefully thay are back in stock by the end of the week.
@nekowhizz the 4 games figure doesn't include the dozen or so free to play games or the ton of PS plus games. If I included those I'd have about the same number as you.
I have 9, but it's mostly because it's the console I buy my multiplats for.
@nekowhizz 40? Dafuq, man how much money have you spent for them? With all that $$$ you could build a high end PC and even play in 4k and keep your PS4/XBONE to play exclusives!
24 Playstation Plus games
4 free to play games
22 retail disk games
My guess 10 or more digital only games
I have 60 games on ps4 I lol really hard every time i see someone say PS4 has no games!
I used to hate buying games digitally, but now i have zero physical copies of games, and the dreaded hard drive shuffle has begun.
I am going to need to get that TB afterall.
35 digital downloads (plus dlc)
22 PS+ games
so 57 or more games in my ps4 library.
@JohnKarnes
agreed, there is so much to play on ps4, my backlog is a nightmare.
@get2sammyb
Does that attach rate counts games people get through PS+, or just games people actually buy.
I have more than 4 PlayStation 4 games.
Physical Disc:
1. Grand Theft Auto V
2. Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor
3. Metro Redux
4. InFamous Second Son
5. FarCry 4
Digital Games:
1. Minecraft PlayStation 4 Edition
2. Entwined
3. FEZ
4. P.T.
5. Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare
6. Sound Shapes
7. The Last of Us Remastered
PS Plus (not actually owning them rent service thingy i have PS Plus lol):
1. Injustice Ultimate Edition
2. Secret Ponchos
I've got 10 or 11 physical copies of games and a bunch more downloaded. Don't really see a point in buying a console if you're not going to buy games. I'll admit, not all of my purchases are ones I'd say were the wisest investments but I did think all worth at least one playthrough of the singleplayer, so that counts for something. The main reason for the 'no games' thing is Sony's first parties, outside of Sucker Punch, have failed so far. I'm hoping (but am not optimistic) that Ready at Dawn changes that soon.
I have zero games for PS4.
My PS3 refuses to let me get a PS4, so......yeah. If I even mention a PS4 around my PS3, it spits out whatever Blu-Ray it has currently inside of it at a dangerous velocity. Today, it almost killed the cat with a Killzone 3 disc.
It's starting to get a little awkward, to be honest.
@Godsire- That's super funny lol xD. In all seriousness though, I get what you mean nod.
My PS3 backlog still has 40+ games in it, that I need to beat first, and that's not counting the 30-40 PS3 games on my wish list I still need to both buy and play.
@ToddlerNaruto
My PS3 backlog is insane. Like you said, 30+ that I don't even own yet. That doesn't count the 10 or so I own but haven't played yet. I think I have a problem. Lol.
That's still a pretty low attach rate for 18.5 million consoles. Maybe PSNow is taking off well and isn't included in this.
@Godsire- I think I've got it worse lol.
I currently own 109 PS3 games, but I've only beaten 45 of them xD.
