Gearbox may be busy working on bizarre MOBA-style shooter Battleborn, but it hasn't forgotten that Borderlands is its bread and butter. And, speaking as part of a question and answer session at PAX South 2015 overnight, gaffer Randy Pitchford has hinted that we won't have to wait long to get the skinny on the next entry in the series.
Asked about the potential sequel β which will presumably be a native PlayStation 4 title β the executive suggested that the firm doesn't know when the release will be ready, but it may have more to share during its second panel on Sunday at 17:00PM CST. We're guessing that the next full instalment will have a Destiny-esque MMO structure to it β but we'll have to wait and see.
Fortunately, the studio will be serving up plenty of meme-based bad jokes to keep you busy in the meantime, as it announced Borderlands: The Handsome Collection for Sony's next-gen machine earlier this week. That package will comprise Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, and is due out as soon as March. How many of you will be picking it up?

Ima need a minute.
Predictable announcement, but a good one nonetheless.
I've pre-ordered Borderlands: The Handsome Collection already!! I nearly fell out my PC chair when I watched the stream of the Q&A,
Awesome 8)
Could be a current gen and pc only fps/mmo type game(borderlands 2 had an mmo feel to it.. The way the areas in the game were laid out and how you progressed through them) and a couple years or so ago gearbox trademarked the name border worlds..
I really liked Borderlands. It was a lot of fun.
And I really liked Borderlands 2, till about halfway through the game. At that point, I just got tired of the cel-shaded open-world shenanigans, spending time meticulously comparing lootspawn weapons to the ones in my inventory, and shooting bigger monsters a bajillion times to kill them.
I felt I was all Borderlanded out, so I put down the controller, went through the cat flap and sniffed the fresh air.
And never played it again.
I don't know I might be one of the rare people that enjoyed the first Borderlands a whole lot more then the second one. The only thing I liked about the second one was Gaige and that they had more classes to choose from then the first one. But there was something that the first one had that the second one didn't. I felt that the first one was darker and gritier without the lack of a story.
I will at least rent this one.
I was at that convention! I didn't see the panel, but I was there at least.
@Tasuki there's quite a few people who do, so you're not alone. Personally, I like both but for different reasons. The first had a better loot system and was more focused, but the second was more fun.
I can't wait for BL3 though. Once the Handsome Collection comes out I'll be playing through again, all that DLC makes it an absolute steal, and it's honestly one of my favourite games of all time. Honestly. I watched Guardians of the Galaxy recently and thought that tonally, it was just a crappy Borderlands.
See, we'e had 3 main Borderlands games now, all of which are... REALLY similar, BL2 and TPS especially, but they both follow basically the same structure as BL1. BL3 needs to be DIFFERENT and they need good, solid new features to refresh the franchise. If it's just more of the same, sure, people will buy it because 'BORDERLANDS!!!!' but... it'll leave the fanbase in even worse a state after TPS.
I actually thought the second one was better than the first in pretty much every possible way.
I preferred the first game to the second one, too. You're not alone, @Tasuki.
Isn't there a article that mentions that future Borderlands titles will be on Vita or has that now shifted to something else?
@Potrock_Star I hope they at least port borderlands1 for the vita
I borrowed the first Borderlands game from a friend during Fall 2013, but it just wasn't my cup o' tea, despite me wasting a month beating the main story.
Was a great multiplayer, missed out on the second but i wont be missing the 3rd
