While we reckon that the PlayStation 4 is in a pretty good place right now, it's clearly missing some minor features that were present on the PlayStation 3 – like the ability to set a custom wallpaper for the console. Themes were introduced as part of the next-gen system's most recent firmware update, but these don't enable you to independently change your box's background to any image that you like.
That could be about to change, however, as a note on the official website for Rebellion's forthcoming undead-'em-up Zombie Army Trilogy indicates that "the ability to set a background should be available in an upcoming system software update". This disclaimer is included underneath a PS4 wallpaper, which can be downloaded for free if you sign up to the studio's newsletter. While the company could just be guessing, this seems like a pretty specific snippet to us.
It's been a while since we last got a meaningful firmware update for the format anyway, so it does feel like we're long overdue some new features. The Japanese giant claims that it's always working behind-the-scenes, but with Microsoft offering meaningful monthly refreshes, we can't help but ponder whether the PlayStation maker's falling behind. Let's hope that we hear about an operating system overhaul soon, huh?

Being able to capture ingame screenshots but not set them as a wallpaper is baffling to me. How is this not possible after more then a year..?
Also, you should be able to easily share captured pics and vids with people in your friendlist, or post them on your 'wall' (not on FB) etc. etc. So much for being a 'social' console..but Im going offtopic here...
@Flurpsel Yeah, there's lots of stuff they could improve, for sure. To be fair, though, while you're not wrong, you just listed a lot of minor stuff.
Lets not forget how long it took to get these features on the playstation 3 guys.this stuff takes time .yeah ms are clearly ahead in these stakes but i dont really care.all i care about is that the games work properly lol eerrr
@KratosMD ah okay, well it'd be appreciated if you could do it without FB and youtube as I don't have (or want) accounts for those. But I suppose you're right
@get2sammyb well, hopefully without sounding like an a***, isn't this article about minor features missing? (and I quote: "it's clearly missing some minor features") ?
@Flurpsel The social aspect for me is being way under used. Comments should be allowed to be added to achievements such as 'well done on getting that Trophy - it's a right pain in the ass!' etc. Even little reviews of a game by yourself or friends rather than a thumb up/down. Plus screenshots or vids taken by your friends. They're three tiny little additions that could easily be added - and sodding player online notifications - to make it feel more social rather than the boredom currently on offer.
@rastamadeus exactly, they could do a lot more with that wall. Like I said I dont even have FB but if I did I wouldnt want to share gaming stuff on it. I would share it on my PS wall though. Share some cool screenshots from driceclub or a killstreak from battlefield, without leaving the whole PS environment.
I remember they have upside and downside wallpapers, we can also customize them right?
Still think it would be nice to be able to store photos and home-movies on it and use the photos to put on the background of your wall, like on PS3. I'd love to have pictures of my kids on the background. Can anyone tell me if you can still play downloaded games on the system, even if the internet signal doesn't pick up. I live out in the middle of no where, and after a few days, my internet runs slow, and the license thing won't take the lock off of the games...just wondering on if I have to wait for the signal to be strong again, or if there's a way around this.
Themes may have been introduced but very few are available....as it stands the only one worth using is the 20th Anniversary theme (for me anyway). I thought there would be a lot more variety at this point, so wallpapers can't hurt.
Im still surprised that the PS4 cannot play audio cd's. I would also like to know why North America and Australia have around thirty more themes than we do in the United Kingdom. North America got the thirty extra themes around a month ago and Australia a couple of weeks after. To be honest the extra themes aren't the best, apart from a few of them, but it would be nice to have the option instead of the United Kingdom being left out as usual. Another feature that was mentioned around the launch of the PS4 was a profile page similar to Facebooks wall that you could update with status, photo's and what games you're currently playing or want friends to play with and friends could post or leave comments has yet to see the light of day.
The PS4 was released back in November of 2013 and we're now in February 2015 and the supposedly "next-gen" system still has a few of the basic features missing that we had on the previous generation. These features are basic features that should have been implemented day one of the box.
I can except that features like suspend play, the profile wall and other new features will take time but what I don't except is not being able to do the more simple ones, like being able to play audio cd's, apply wallpaper via screen shots and more/better themes, friend notifications and various others the PS3, PS Vita and the XBOX360 could do a few years ago.
Don't get me wrong, I love my PS4 and I trust that Sony will deliver (eventually) but I wish they could get these updates out. Doesn't have to be every month like the XBOX ONE as I'd be happy if they got atleast one new/old feature out every 2-3 months.
Rant over...
