While some players are still desperate for the ability to automatically find other Guardians to attempt Raids with, Bungie refuses to budge on its stance of keeping matchmaking far away from Destiny's toughest trials.
It is, however, bringing matchmaking to weekly heroic Strikes with the sci-fi shooter's next patch, which is still due out at some point this month. If you're out of the loop, the weekly heroic Strikes are more difficult Strikes that offer up better rewards. As such, they only require a team of three, so matchmaking should be a welcome addition, as it's already present in the standard version of the activity.

Yes, this is great. I want to do them, but I don't want to solo, as I know no one with both Destiny and a PS4. This'll up my stranger coins a nice bit.
I also think that this a sign of more matchmaking to come, but I think the fact that Bungie is finally admitting this doesnt need a team of friends, will lead to more in the future. I'm suprised it's taken them this long to figure out. I mean, really, the idea that three random Lv. 29s couldn't take on a heroic Lv. 24 strike is a bit insulting.
Na I've given up on this game now!! It's to little to late, and the fact they not listing to the player about "Match Making for Raids" tells you everything!! Roll on Borderlands Handsome Collection,
@Jaz007 send me a friend request, I've got destiny and no one to play it with. Yeah the weekly strikes arnt that hard, I went into one solo and got fairly far. To be honest I nvr knew it didn't matchmake for you - that kind of makes sense as why I was on my billy no mates now......
What about nightfall? This is a much needed update, all my friends do the nightly strike on Tuesday morning when I'm at work!
@Picola Apparently Bungie's 'considering' it for Nightfall Strikes.
@themcnoisy Thanks, but I don't (and can't) play with strangers (no offense meant) like that. Thanks for the offer though.
About time. I mean how different is auto matchmaking to going on the Bungie app and adding random people from a forum for one game?
About Damn time.
Maybe when I return to Destiny, matchmaking will present a lot. I still don't have any itches to go back.
Well huh, I might reinstall this and The Dark Below then since this is one of the main reasons I quit playing. I couldn't get strange coins to save for exotics because of the nonexistent matchmaking for heroic strikes. But still, the matter of how much grinding this game requires is what still puts me off, so I most likely won't reinstall it. It's going to be such a long wait for Bloodborne and the Borderlands Collection....
Personally I am disappointed they are making the Weekly Heroics a mandatory match making experience. I would have preferred the option to opt out. It now means all those scrubs and lower level players incapable of doing the higher level Strike will now be able to get the rewards they don't deserve. I am not on about those that actually can and will play properly but you now you are going to end up with some lower level (28 or less) players that will just sit back whilst you do all the work just so they can get a few extra Strange Coins. I have never had an issue with finding players on sites like DestinyLFG to do raids with. It seems as if they are willing to put a bit of effort into looking for other players, hey are generally willing to put the effort in to the game. The whole reason I stopped playing the Vanguard Strike list was primarily down to match making and the players I was matched with.
I enjoy the 'challenge' of beating these Solo - although in most cases its not that much of a challenge!
@robjewitt A LOT of difference. On the forums you can specify or look for players that match what you want from a Fireteam. You can specifically look for certain classes, levels, weapon configurations, language/mic users etc and as you control the fireteam, you can also boot players if they don't match-up to your requirements/needs.
With random in game matchmaking you could be paired with players that are under level who are useless and only there to get the rewards after you do everything. I would rather do it solo than have 1-2 lower level players who just sit back or constantly go down or even speak a different language - not so important in a strike. You could be paired with players that have a very different playstyle or agenda - some rush off and others like to kill everything in certain areas too but at least with friends or Solo you can play your way.
Like I said I would have preferred an optional match making and that way I don't have to carry scrubs through it!
@BAMozzy Yeah, I see your point. I guess I should have made it clearer that I was speaking about the Weekly Strike specifically. Quite often playing a normal strike you end up doing what you have to do (as in solo) anyway. I never bear a grudge against the others that tag along though
@robjewitt I have never minded helping friends through any of weeklies (Heroic, Nightfall, Raids) as they always have a mic and we have a good laugh too. I do have an issue though with randomers - especially those that are useless and you know they are only piggy backing purely to get the extra rewards.
I better get them done this week to top up my Strange Coins - not that I really need them with 450+ in my vault. I will not do these with Randoms so it means that I will wait until I have 2 friends online or not bother...
