It's been a bit of a slow start to the year for the PlayStation 4 in Japan, but Sony's got an impressive slate of software lined up, and it's kickstarted things this week with the overseas release of Far Cry 4. According to Media Create numbers, Ajay Ghale's adventure sold 36,239 units on the next-gen console last week, almost double what it managed on the PlayStation 3.
And hardware sales of the manufacturer's most recent machine were up as a result, from 13,793 units to 17,392 units. Unfortunately, the PlayStation Vita's figures declined by a comparable margin, scraping by with just 11,871 units sold. The unpopular PS Vita TV could only add 521 units to that tally – but it did outsell the Xbox One, which shifted a dismal 222 units.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the PS Vita's lifetime sales are at the moment? Always seems to be doing at least ok in Japan...
Xbox One is getting smoked over there. I guess in the end I'm not surprised but it's funny how a lot of pro-Xbox sites are acting now like they weren't throwing victory parties when first pre-order numbers came out. There's a lesson in that hopefully. Report the news and leave it at that.
Japan is dead :/ those numbers are terrible all around
Only the 3DS gets afloat but its still pretty low
