We thought that Until Dawn was a shoo-in for the stupidest story of 2015, but Mortal Kombat X may yet give it a run for its money. This brand new video of NetherRealm's forthcoming fighter includes a peek at some of the cut-scenes from the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 title's single player mode – and it's all looking amazingly awful so far.
In addition to the mismatched cast of characters – which includes Jacqueline Briggs, daughter of Jax, Takashi Takeda, son of Kenshi, and Kung Jin, descendant of Kung Lao – there's also talk of mysterious amulets, ancient armies, and other such nonsense. There's also a brief glimpse at an amazing fatality which sees Reptile's head kicked clean off his neck – and then peppered with arrows. Day one.

This game, man. This game. I'm getting the hype now.
Game? I just want to watch this movie...hilarious!
This is the most stupid article I have seen from your site. It's a fantasy game with magic, what did you expected?
Lol! Who cares if the story is ridiculous in a Mortal Kombat game? If the mechanics are as good as MK9 they can tell whatever story they want and Il still play it.
It will be awesomely ridiculous let's face it most fighters have silly story modes and mortal kombat has always been a bit tongue in cheek
I have no quarrel with this. Still loving the sound fx of the goro knuckle crunching.
How can anyone be offended when Mortal Kombat is deemed silly? It's like almost every other fighting game out there - they're all dumb to some degree.
Good lord, people.
@Melucine Exactly, it's a fantasy video game with magic. Yank those panties out. They seem a bit bunched, mate.
This has to be a joke!? This thing will bomb.
C'mon guys - I love Mortal Kombat. I'm not criticising it for being silly - it's clearly intentionally tongue in cheek. I think that's one of the things that makes it great!
Mortal Kombat is as dumb as a bag of nails - fans really need to stop acting like it's some sort of complex, Shakespearean tale.
I'm a huge Metal Gear fan, and even I can accept that it has many ridiculous elements to the plot and gameplay.
Why so serious?
Oh man this looks awesome. I loved the story mode in MK9, so I'm really interested in seeing what the development team is going to do with all these new characters!! Can't wait
@Sammy Barker: I don't care how much you say you 'love' Mortal Kombat, no MK fan would see the trailer above and comment on it the way you did. Your article is flame-bait, and a rather pathetic one at that. But I suppose I should expect nothing less from a 'journalist' of your caliber.
Everything about this trailer was awesome, everything. The presentation, the directing, the pathos ... MK takes itself and its mythology seriously, and it shows. I place the particular trailer right alongside The Witcher 3's pre-E3 2014 trailer in terms of quality.
I applaud Netherealm for making their fighting games be something more than a versus mode (unlike MvC3, Killer Instinct, and 95% of every other fighting game) and I won't have a snotty little punk like you insult that effort and get a free pass.
This trolling attempt of yours is just as mind-numbingly stupid as your comments on the Quan-Chi trailer — "Please, tell us what was the part you laughed!!" and almost everyone commented your question with ".... whaaa?"
Anyway. I don't know if this website earned viewers with this article of yours ... but it sure as hell lost one.
@get2sammyb
You say, you love MK, but still you call it amazingly awful, you bash the new characters which we dont really know them and you call nonsense the use of magic in a fantasy game. I really can't understand you.
The story is based around a war and a magic amulet, it's not the first time we seen it and of course it's not a Shakespearean play. It looks cheesy and for me that's the charm. It reminds me of those b-movies I grew up at the 80s.
I can't say anything for the new characters, we don't know their story, they attitude an their moves, the first 4 new characters seemed more interesting than those we saw in this trailer. Also, in my opinion always, the last few games in the series introduced not a single interesting addition to the roster.
I called the article stupid, not because I have something personal with you of course, but when anyone tries to write on a site and not on a personal blog, he/she must be as objective as possible. The only fact is, that it is too early to criticize the story or the characters.
@Donald_M
English is not my native language, I really can't understand your expression, so I can't answer.
@Nickolaidas
Really? Leaving a site because you don't like an article? A true Mk fan, actually a true fan of anything, will not hesitate to point out what he/she things, are the bad things.
ITT people who don't grasp sarcasm.
@get2sammyb yeah Sammy, this is 1000x worse than the hate The Order got before it came out. Jeez man........
100% sarcasm
I remember I bought my first Mortal Kombat on Gamecube and I was just so friggin scared of the coffins and fatalities and whatnot that I couldn't make myself play the game.
I guess its just not for me I do get why people love it though
wow fanboys getting mad haha! Sammy was just having fun lol since when cant you laugh about a series you love? You do know you can love something and make fun of it, right? lighten up folks.
@Nickolaidas Can not agree more, this article and his writer are both pathetics
@AyeHaley Is this a humor or comedy website now? Because to me is not, it's about video games, and very few games use comedy as the central thing.
Oh my god.
Incredible.
@Nickolaidas
You have to understand how this website works:
This site will hype some indie or Japanese game that you have never heard of (and 90% of the gaming world doesn't care about), but they'll make fun of games like Mortal Kombat.
This site will also have "news" articles that are really more opinion blog-like articles where objectivity is thrown out the window.
This is also the biggest PlayStation fanboy site in history, so take some things with a grain of salt. For example, this is the only site I have seen that actually defends DriveClub to a ridiculous degree. You also get about 35,749 articles a month on PS4 sales & how indies are better than AAA games.
So why come here? They are very up to date on news. They give the Vita the attention it deserves. They review almost everything PlayStation related. The site also has a lot of actual hardcore gamers that frequent it, so the level of complete idiotic, casual gamers is kept to a minimum. And even though you clearly are not a fan of Sammy, he does write some good articles.
@Nickolaidas Going away? See you later. Anyone who takes Mortal Kombat as seriously as you is best gone, and dude, I LOVE Mortal Kombat.
Wow, some people take Mortal Kombat very seriously. MORTAL KOMBAT.
Reevaluate your lives.
@Melucine It means you seem a bit worked up and should try to calm down, basically. You say English is not your native language, as such you may lack the nuance to understand that Sammy isn't bashing Mortal Kombat he's just having a bit of fun. That said, it is possible to love something and still make fun of it. Mortal Kombat IS very silly and that's okay.
@Donald_M Sure I may have miss understood him. I blame a bit of language and the internet! Not hearing someone makes it harder to understand his tone, also I am kinda new to the site, so I don't really know him and how he thinks.
But I am also calm, I wont leave the site
@Nickolaidas If you can't read something you don't like without insulting people, the problem is yours. You should write your own articles so you'd be always 100% agree with what you read.
Yeah I'm a bit confused here. On one hand you say it's awful and on the other you say you love it?
...Aaaaaannnndd this is exactly what I was talking about.
Again, Mortal Kombat. Mortal. Kombat.
And I thought Sonic fans were bad (actually, they still take the cake).
I think it's great that Mortal Kombat has a story mode. I don't even play fighting games anymore because most of them are pure garbage single player.
I really don't like the idea of "pre order now, get Goro"... Shouldn't he.. You know.. Just be playable to all?
@SanderEvers Guilty Gear's story is a work of art, I don't know what you're talking about.. Xrd's story is great if you understand what's going on.
Will likely wait for the inevitable GOTY edition with this one.
