Despite the fact that it's been years since we actually saw any evidence that The Last Guardian exists, the almost mythical spiritual successor to Shadow of the Colossus still manages to make the news with alarming frequency, such is the anticipation surrounding Team ICO's next game.
The latest news comes courtesy of a savvy NeoGAF user, who's pointed out that the title's trademark has expired, consequently leaving a lot of currently unanswerable questions hanging in the air. For starters, this could be read as a bad sign -- a sign that Sony's abandoned the project. Equally plausible is the more positive notion that the game could be getting a name change for when it's finally re-revealed. We bet you hope that it's the latter, eh?
There are a number of other reasons as to why Sony's let the trademark slip away, but since it's purely conjecture at this point, we'll let you lot battle it out in the comments section below.

And somehow Sony WWS will still pretend the game is in development. Why apt they just come clean, and stop trying to deceive us ?
On a plus point, Bungie and Activision will be happy they have another potential name for a Destiny sequel
@Dohv Probably because it is still in development.
Worth noting that the trademark has been abandoned before, but it's still worth talking about.
@get2sammyb
Keep the dream alive, right?
I hope to have that giant bird puppy as my pet SOMEDAY at least. It's not like lack of story ideas has prevented other games' releases.
They're just waiting until the PS6.
It is goingso funny that everyone thinks it has been abandoned and then E3 comes and they show about the release date. Then everyone loses there sh*t and it is going to be glorious! Hahahahaha
@get2sammyb
@Dohv
You seem to forget that the only reason this game was announced was because Sony's hand was forced by a video leak.
They probably just changed the name Like Square Enix did with Versus 13.
And decide to call it Trico? One can hope
I gave up on this game a long time ago...so if it ever releases and comes close to matching the humongous levels of expectation heaped upon it I'll be pleasantly surprised. My concern now is the production of Kingdom Hearts 3 becoming as torturous.
This must be the only game that supposedly is in development, but we are not able to see even a new screenshot at E3 since who knows when.
Sigh...
So if someone else took the name, what then?
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Too soon...So many false rumors surrounding it.
I liked the film version.
I honestly don't care I will look into it more at release (if it ever gets released) but right now I know so little about it I just don't worry about when it's out or if they change the name
@get2sammyb - You let somebody else post a TLG article? Did you take the day off to celebrate Presidents Day
TLG will release someday. Maybe as a PS5 PS+ launch title.
I believed they just missed the renewal date. Statement will come soon after they refreshed the trademark.
This happened before...

This was one of the reasons I got a ps3 and they are going to do me like this?
I am never believing these developers e3 ,tgs video/trailer hype until these games actually ship.
The game industry is a joke. And how the Japanese developers have fallen!!
You dont see this in movies. 6 years of BS.
@KAPADO Japanese developers have fallen Platinum games, Kojima and monolith soft say hi
@ReigningSemtex compared to thier ps1 and ps2 days they have.. Square enix for example and many others... The ones you named are only but a fraction of what used to be.
@SuperCat NeverEnding story was the best, from what I can remember.
Anyways, sucks to hear about the trademark vanishing, hopefully they're just changing the name.
