You may have already noticed, but DriveClub's PlayStation Plus Edition is still nowhere to be found. Originally poised to be the headliner of the service's October update, the free version's been postponed for months with little word on an expected time of arrival.
It's grasping at straws, but the racer's official Twitter account has told one curious user that "we're getting there, but there's still a lot of server development needed to support the PS+ Edition." In short, it doesn't sound great, and we reckon that we've still got a while to go until we get some sort of release date.
Are you still waiting for PlayStation's premium service to cough up the goods, or have you lost interest? Or perhaps you've gone ahead and bought the full game? Speed off into the comments section below.

I honestly think they're just going to give you the full game at this point. They'll wait until all of the DLC's out, and then drop the full game in the summer. It makes sense, 'cos the PS Plus Edition never sounded very good to be honest — and they'll still be able to make money back on the DLC (which has been of a consistently high quality so far).
Silly question but can you buy the full game with just the upgrade, seems odd that an upgrade exists for a product that's not available, I am guessing its there just so Plus members can buy at a lower price?
@GamingPenguin Yes, you can.
@get2sammyb
I sense a lawsuit incoming if thats the case. Edit: Looks like you're wrong.
They just dropped the Feb. update notes on fb, and it included this:
» Server upgrades: to improve stability and performance for all current players and to enable the release of the PS+ Edition and DRIVECLUB companion app.
So I'm thinking a March or April release of the ps+ edition
I can see the full game will be free with PS plus in the summer.
Its only £20 in the shops right now for the full game. The games solid but lacks something that gt and forza scratch. The rain graphics are decent and altogether its ok. In a way I'm glad it failed as the dlc lineup (which is mostly free due to the launch mess) would of turned a £40 game into a £150 game. Ive hardly touched it which is odd as I accrued 50hhours in gt4 and 50 on forza3. But for £20 you cant really go wrong.
Free in the future is the only way to make it right IMO. I only remember hearing about this game and being excited over 2 years ago since I love racing games lol.
Same with Deep down but thats already free. The delays sigh.
Still trying to get into it. I'm playing it paralell to Forza and it's.... difficult.
Well I couldn't wait any longer and bought the full version in the sale on PS Store. I have to say very disappointing and a poor mans attempt at Gran Turismo.
It's disappointing. I would still like to play the PS+ edition if it's not completely broken.
I've almost bought it a few times because I have been craving a racer and forza has never been my cup of tea. Never bought it out of principle that I had said I would buy it once the plus edition came out, and with project cars coming out next month that should satisfy my hunger for a racer hopefully. The time it's taken them to get the plus version Going has cost them 3 sales just in people I know. Glad they are working on it and it's getting there, but open betas could have helped... A lot.
They'll cop out of it and have it free in March or April's PS+ offerings. This was always going to happen though. They never had any intention of giving anyone DriveClub for free which is why they kept constantly changing what was offered and then cancelling it at the last second.
At this point i lost the little interest i had in this game.
I feel they just flat out lied us and never tried enough
"Originally poised to be the headliner of the service's October update..."
Well, originally it was supposed to be a Plus / PS4 launch title. That seems so long ago!
I've basically boycotted this game due to their treatment of the fans. If they'd been open and upfront the entire time it would have been a different story, but that wasn't the case at all and I don't see them doing anything in an attempt to make up for it, either.
If we end up getting a Plus version for free, I'll give it a shot, but I don't expect to spend a dime with these guys.
@glassmusic
Exactly. As I have said in the comment sections of many other related articles at this site (and gotten attacked for it), there is no way in @%`# I am ever going to support this game.
Sony & Evolution's handling of this game & their flat-out lies have been disgraceful. Supporting this type of behavior just sends the wrong message. And other than fanyboys in the comment sections at this website (who blindly defend this game, for some reason), I have not seen any articles anywhere even talking about this game anymore.
I WAS expecting it sooner but I guess not... All might be forgiven though if they give the full game in the near future on plus
i bought it months ago. played it to death. platted it yesterday loved every minute.im a hardened racing game fan,gt being my ultimate choice but this game is truly breathtaking. i insist anyone whos on the fence on this one to get it because it just epic,stunning,jaw dropping ! what are you waiting for??buy it!!
@Godsire- we defend it because we love it . you can try to talk.ppl out of buying it and we (the fanboys) can try to pursaude ppl to buy it.nothing wrong with that
I bought it at £20 when all the problems were fixed. It's a great game now, especially for that price. Feel free to ignore it out of some misguided attempt at principles, but the phrase "cutting off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind.
Do the people who pre-ordered it have a right to be hacked off? Of course they do. But I would argue that they make a rod for their own backs by pre-ordering. It never used to happen. We all used to wait for a game to come out, read the reviews, then buy the game if it seemed like it fit our tastes. If you're willing to take the risk of pre-ordering, then you have to accept you will get burned on occasion. And if everyone stopped pre-oredering, this problem wouldn't exist.
@professorhat
Oh yea, those damn principles. Heaven forbid those annoying things get in the way when I spend my money. (rolls eyes)
Damnit, I bought the game last month. Aside from the occasional quirks, it's been relatively rock solid. Enjoying it immensely. Wonder that the matter is with the free version.
@Godsire- Hahaha! Good quip! Yea I'm with ya man, and I'm a huge racing fan that was excited about the game. So i rented it from Red Box(free with a movie rental, thank god)and lasted an hour before I got bored. The game is very basic and boring. It's definitely a casual racers game. So aside from the principle of how they handled the whole thing, take comfort in knowing you ain't missin' much!
Brilliant game, but one only for racing fans because it's a mix between the arcade handling of Forza Horizon and the more sim based physics of Gran Turismo. Hits the happy middle ground to enable beginners to get to grips and advanced racers a knife edge to dance on pushing the limits. Weather is awesome and gameplay smooth. PS+ more than pays for itself without the need for a cut down Driveclub version to be available tbh. People would then only complain they only get one country and about 10 cars, as is the way with entitled gamers these days. Cracking game for under £20 with worthwhile free and premium dlc. Glad I took the plunge rather than wait around for a freebie. If you really wanted it you'd have bought it by now!
It'll come when it comes. Hardly a big deal.
@Fenriswolf-
Well, thanks for the heads-up. I am waiting for Gran Turismo, if I get any racing game at all. For some reason, racing games just don't appeal to me like they used to. I do enjoy Mario Kart, though.
Maybe they're release it once project cars come out.
@Godsire- of course principles should come into play when buying. I'm sure you buy everything just as ethically e.g. not buying anything from PepsiCo because of their destructive policies in developing countries etc. etc. But if principles are stopping you from buying a decent racing game for less than half of the full price because of some bugs when it released, then I would argue that's misguided. You may disagree. Fair enough. But it's hardly like these guys are chopping down rain forests or abusing their work force (rolls eyes)
@rastamadeus This is most likely true.
As much as Id love to say that its just bad luck or devs wanting a top product etc, its a bit sus that there would be all these promises then poof, nothing.
@professorhat
Comparing chopping down rain forests, etc. to lousy, buggy video games? Maybe you should just not.......speak......about this subject anymore.
@Godsire- yes, that's my point - you seem to be struggling with it. Comparing chopping down rain forests with buggy games is ridiculous. As is not buying a good video game at less than half the price because "supporting this type of behaviour just sends the wrong message". There yet?
Actually let's not worry about it further as I think it's probably a waste of both our time. There's no doubt double articles that need to be pointed out.
@professorhat
Oh I get it & "am there". I just think your point is idiotic & has very little, if any, relevence here. But, as someone pointed out earlier, apparently that's the norm with you.
And yes, this probably is a waste of our time. I am sure you have many other articles to start up pointless arguments in. By all means, move on to those.
Ah, you're lovely
@Godsire- Yea I'm a GT fan myself. Project cars has me excited too though! Based on past experience, I'm sure we won't be seeing GT for a while unfortunately. But that's fine, I can wait! 👍
