Those that have topped up their Tumblr knowledge of late will be aware of the dress debate that's taken social media by storm. For those out of the loop, an image showing a white and gold dress [It's white and gold, darn it – Ed] has prompted an online rift, as some argue that it's actually black and blue. We've no idea what those people are smoking.
Playfully capitalising on the heated back and forth, PlayStation Australia has posted an image of an all-new white and gold DualShock 4 – which is, of course, black and blue. Having already been retweeted by 14,000 people, we suspect that the region's marketing team will be beaming all weekend. Jokes aside, though, this dispute is going to run and run.

The dress is clearly white and gold.
looks white and light brown to me
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi A lot of people claim it's black and blue.
@get2sammyb I don't really know what this is, but it seems to be a marketing trick altogether. It appeared on my facebook this morning, and some people claimed they thought it was white and gold, and then after commenting, the dress was a different color to them.
So who knows?
I have no idea what's going on.
But its black and blue. Just when I though the site was a safe place to go.
@ShogunRok From what I have read, it has something to do with the lighting and how the brain processes colours. Apparently, some people will see it as one colour and others another and thus the great social media war begun.
@NicolaHayden
First world problems anyone?
And if they can have different colored DS4, why not the console itself?
what?!
Oh yeah, all my co-workers are asking the same question. For me, it's clearly black and blue.
Lol... I'm seeing brown and purple.... High school all over again: don't fit in with the jocks, but not a nerd either :S
God damn black an blue!!
It's black and blue
Well... either my brain is being weird or there are some internet trickery involved. It looked while/told this morning.. but now it looks blue/brown (almost black).
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi but... now I can't find any pictures of it actually being white/gold.... I've photoshopped enough to know it's an exposure thing but still.
I haven't changed the picture!
@NathanUC
Exactly the same thing going on here!! And now I can't see the more beautiful white and gold no more!
@Boerewors The only difference is I'm getting a ton more natural light right now. I'm wondering if it appears to 'change colors' after you're eyes adjust to a different type of light or something. My GF still sees it as white/gold, so I 'know' the picture hasn't been changed
It depends in what light you view it and when you move your monitor the color will change. Oh and the original dress is black and blue alright.
@NathanUC
Could be.. When I saw it first I just turned on the pc and was in a bright room. Now I'm sitting in a darker room playing games and it totally changed color. I know for a fact they haven't changed the picture, cause I saved it and sent it to some others, cause I was certain people were trolling
@get2sammyb - Woke up this morning and this was on my local news (I'm 1 of those people who turn on the news before getting out of bed, can't let that 39" tv go to waste) and I agree w/ your "For those out of the loop, an image showing a white and gold dress" comment it's, white and gold.
BUT I scrolled up your ALL TOO WHITE page and the @@#%#& dress is brown and blue. M#$%^%# F#$%##
So for everybody else who sees it white and gold - which I'm sure it is - after reading all the comments way down to here on the way too white background (I'm using Chrome browser) scroll back up and it may just be blue and brown. Or black and blue. Who knows.
The white background on this page really has been killing my eyes for weeks now though.
How the hell can people see that as black and blue, this makes no sense at all. That is white and brown or white with a puke gold color. If people are claiming that to be black and blue, they are full of crap. *Starts digging a whole to fill it up with all the BS floating around.
Black and blue, clearly some people have been huffing some paint thinner or something.
@Bigdoggy Give it a few hours and try again I had a similar reaction earlier... but now all I can see is blue/brownish.
my dad just looked and said it was purple and black
ok WTF is going on?
Now it's really weird. When I scroll from the bottom to the top of the page I still see blue and black, but when I scroll back down from the top I see gold and white.
This thread is cracking me up.
@BLPs It's a JPG image. No GIF trickery going on.
Last night when i viewed a mates pic of it on fb i did a little test it was white and gold then i scrolled down the pic to almost past it then i scrolled back up and it was blue and black, or i loaded one page it was on colour then loaded the same page again and it was a different colour
The color depends on what angle you are viewing the picture from. If I look straight on then it's white but if I tilt my phone it's blue.
@get2sammyb It's the thread of the day!
There's a BBC report on this now if anyone's interested: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-31656935
Came back to see how my eyes were doing, and it's white and gold again - the brown and blue is so ugly.
Time to scroll back up, I'm expecting it to change. BRB
yep, brown and blue again
for those who are saying it's the angle, I'm sitting in a chair in my kitchen looking at 19" Acer monitor, neither I nor the monitor are moving. I'm pretty sure it's the bright white background on this page messing w/ my eye contrast.
I was recently at a science fair and saw something way cooler than this. A woman spun a plate in front of her face for a few minutes then removed it and her head swelled up to about 5x its normal size. She then spun the plate the opposite direction and her head shrunk done to nothing like Beetelgeuese.
Our eyes may see reality, but our brains have other ideas.
@get2sammyb - That BBC vid was great, straight out of The Daily Show. I wonder if they've covered it yet?
BTW - when I see it blue and brown it's pastel blue and kind of sandy beige, nowhere near that dark blue and black the Taylor Swift wannabe model was wearing. Though it does explain why you linked to that page
Oh, and I only see it white and gold on the BBC page, never blue and brown, so I guess I'll stop blaming your horrific white background now.
I scrolled through the article all the while the dress was very obviously white and gold. Now I scrolled up and the dress is undeniably black and blue. Hmmm. Curious.
Seriously strange. Blowing my mind a little
It's complementary colors. Copy it into Photoshop and press control+I to invert the colors. What is going on is obviously beyond me.
Very strong cyan cast. But basically it's white and gold.
Not really sure why people are still arguing over this when they already confirmed the dress is blue and black IRL. Heck if you actually go to the online store for it there is no white and gold version, only white and black.
The dress is actually Blue & Black
sure it is. It's actually not blue and black, it's dirty gold and white, if anything it's semi-off white and dirty gold. I gave it time and I still don't see black and white. Probably the same people that say it's blue and black are the same ones that say "those graphics aren't amazing" when they actually are. :X
People should start doing the ice bucket challenge in the dress so we can have a new distraction for a week. And find out what color it is wet.
@get2sammyb - My family loves your "Get out." animated gif. My 12 year old actually fell on the floor laughing.
it even made it into the newspapers abd they explained how it worked (by the way the dress is actually black and blue there are other pics in the papers)
I still see the same colors. You guys must be on drugs or it just carried over from birth or something.
