There's one thing that you should know about running a PlayStation website: you never, ever get a rest. After a long, hard day at the office – moving into the 14th hour now – this author was looking forward to some sleep, but alas, the platform holder has confirmed firmware update v2.50. There's, er, no rest for the wicked. Fortunately, a lot of this information has already leaked, so it won't take us long to run through the new features of 'Yukimura', which is what the platform holder's dubbing this new update. It's named after an ancient samurai warrior, for those not up on their Japanese history. As for a release date – well, the manufacturer's simply saying "soon" for now. Here are the features that have made the cut.
Accessibility Options
This may not sound very exciting on the surface, but this will be a game changer for some. The new accessibility options will allow you to remap the DualShock 4 controller, while also including tons of small improvements, such as text enlarging, colour inversion, zoom, and much more. This will hopefully enable a few more people to enjoy the PS4, which is fantastic.
Dailymotion Video Upload
For all three people who use Dailymotion, you'll now be able to upload your gameplay clips directly to the video hosting service via the Share button. We're not entirely sure who this will appeal to, but hey, more options is always good, right?
Facebook Friends Search
This is nifty: you'll now be able to find your buddies more easily on the PS4 by linking your Facebook account to the console. It'll then search your Facebook friends for associated PlayStation Network profiles, and recommend that you add anyone that you haven't already to your list of gaming contacts.
Remote Play at 60 Frames-Per-Second
Remote Play is amazing, but previously, it was limited to 30 frames-per-second. This will change with firmware update v2.50, as if you've got a fast enough connection, you'll be able to stream 60 frames-per-second footage to your PlayStation Vita or PS Vita TV. Share Play will also support this option, allowing you to pass the controller to your pals, without compromising the experience.
Sub-Account Upgrade
It's already possible to upgrade your sub-account to a master account online, but PS4 firmware update v2.50 will add the feature to the console. You'll need to be 18 to use the option, but this will ultimately enable you to access all of the functionality of the PlayStation Network, without any restrictions.
Suspend/Resume
The biggie for this update, Suspend/Resume will allow you to put your PS4 into Rest Mode – without quitting your game. This means that you won't have to wait for the title to boot when you power your console back up – heck, you won't even necessarily need to save. Sony promised this feature at the next-gen system's reveal event over two years ago, so it's perhaps long overdue.
Trophy Tweaks
They may be one of the most important parts of the PlayStation experience, but Trophies often tend to get overlooked in these updates. Fortunately, the achievements system will get some much needed attention in firmware update v2.50. For starters, you'll be able to delete game profiles where you've earned 0% of the trinkets, but there'll also be a new automated feature that will take a screenshot when you unlock a gong. Extra sorting options will also be added, too.
What do you make of this little lot, then? Which new features are getting you hot under the collar? Are there any particular improvements that you're annoyed have been overlooked? Let us know in the comments section below.

Yukimura Sanada's the guy who appears on most of the Samurai Warriors promotional stuff. He was considered one of the most courageous samurai of his time. The more you know, etc.
Anyway, update's sounding good. Not sure how much I'll actually use suspend/resume, but having it there is reassuring should the need arise.
Woah. So I can legitimately enjoy Guilty Gear Xrd in bed.
Sanada Yukimura, the most famous warrior of Sengoku period in Japan. AKA the "main" character of Samurai Warriors, since the first one!
As silly a feature as it is to get excited about, automated screenshots for every trophy sounds like a fun way to keep tabs on my backlog... and annoy my friends if they automatically share to every social network under the sun.
Also, proper suspend/resume is long, long overdue. Guess I should just be happy it's actually there.
Suspend/Resume will be goat. I just hope it will timeout for online games. I don't want that one annoying player to be my teammate.
Remote play 60 fps? Wow. Even tho I had no problem with it being 30
Can I turn the facebook list off? Last thing I need are all the people I hate (most of em) annoying me while i'm on my ps4....I suppose I can unlink it I hope.
does that mean on the vita to
Anything that makes the experience better for more people is obviously a good thing. The only thing that I can see that benefits me directly or likely to get any use is likely to be the Trophy Tweaks although it doesn't matter to me that much - All the other tweaks are on things I won't/don't use. Just because I don't use them though, doesn't mean I can't see the benefits to those that do.
60 fps on remote play? I may be on the minority that use it on my Vita but this will be great.
I'd love mouse and keyboard play! If they done it so I can change the button setup of the controller why not let me setup a keyboard and mouse button setup
@xMEADx Yeah, just unlink your account. They'll have to manually add you to their friends list, too, so you can just ignore them.
Don't like the sound of the 'Dependent on software titles' bit on the Blog for 'Suspend & Resume'? Hmm, i want it to work with ALL games (if that is what it means)(+ it took 2 years to implement?! Hmm)
I dont trust suspend/resume on my PC, there is no way I'm going to trust it on my console. A good, regular reboot to clear the cruft is just what the doctor ordered.
The Trophies changes are nice, and hopefully they allow for more than 0% in the future or more games are just going to pop a trophy for starting the game (or damn near), defeating the point of this.
The Sub account stuff is also nice.
I like options like button remapping, but unless the button changes are granular enough to be on a game specific basis, they are not very useful.
I dont use my Vita for remote play (no "real" R2/R3 and L2/L3 and the rear touch pad is just a nuisance), and I wont use remote play becuse I'm in the USA where we love data caps, so those features dont really offer me anything useful.
Glad they're giving the option to remove games with 0% Trophy but would prefer 5% or below.
Sometimes I just try a game, get a Trophy or two then never play it again (PS+ freebies mostly) and these games make my Trophy list look ugly.
Still this is better than nothing!
Wish they'd give us proper USB media player compatibilities!!!!!! I NEEDS MY COMPATIBILITIES!!!!!!!!
Im digging the remap , play resume could be nice.
So nothing about external harddrives?
So guys. Persona 5 on the Vita at 60fps. Are your minds blown yet?!
I WANT TO SAVE MY MOVIES ONTO MY HD please.
Stuff all that social guff, Trophy tweaks is the one for me. Not too bothered by play/resume because most games load pretty quickly now anyway.
