How to derail a carefully curated public relations push: set the embargo around the same time as Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain's release date leaks. Warner Bros couldn't have predicted this afternoon's circumstances, of course, but we suspect that a few folks at Swedish developer Avalanche Studios will be kicking themselves right now – especially seeing as their open world adaptation of Mad Max will be releasing on 1st September in North America and 4th September in Europe. How long do you think it will take for that date to get changed?
A bit of housekeeping first: despite being announced as a cross-gen release, the Just Cause company has scrapped the PlayStation 3 version, meaning that this will be available on the PlayStation 4 only. According to a Game Informer cover story, this has enabled it to focus on boosting the visuals. "This has allowed the team to deliver stunning vistas and effects that will challenge your expectations of what the Wasteland might look like," points out the publication's blurb. "In short, it's definitely not a bland, endless stretch of sand."
You can get a look at the title in action courtesy of the magazine's coverage trailer below, but expect much more on this over the coming months. Are you a road warrior? Show us the way of the highway in the comments section below.

This could be pretty good, but it's probably best that they got this announced now, because we all know what post-apocalyptic adventure is going to be revealed at E3 this year...
Scrapping/transitioning last gen of late, has been so sloppy and seeing as it's the same publisher doing this... Mortal Kombat X would be next, but last gen has been delayed.
Commit to one or both, ain't hard.
@ShogunRok
The Second Coming of The Last of Us isn't happening so soon. It's possible, but U4 is taking up their manpower.
There's almost too many open world games coming out this year.... Like dang.
@Punished_Boss_84 This is the point where I don't know whether you're serious or not!
Very high hopes for this
@ShogunRok
What? I think that's a very cool name for a sequel.
Releasing the same day as MGS V? That's definitely mad.
@Punished_Boss_84 No, it is... But I was talking about a different post-apocalyptic adventure.
Interesting...very interesting.
Keep money for a new fallout or take a dive and buy this!?
@ShogunRok
I just realised what you're talking about, forgot about Bethesda.
@JesWood13 Yeah I know right
@Johnnycide Expect some delays
@get2sammyb: This will be my first time with the Mad Max franchise/universe, should I need to read up on anything else, or can I go in blind playing this game?
@ToddlerNaruto seeing as it'll probably follow the new film then I'd say no, but you now have plenty of time to watch the originals.
I recommend watching the second one first, then the first. The first one hasn't aged very well. Not much happens for about 70 mins, the second is a lot better pacing and action wise.
The third though? Oh man. It's a total cheese fest but it's one of the best action films of the eighties.
@ShogunRok heavy breathing F-FF-F... /faint
@Johnnycide I'll try to watch the original trilogy...is the 1990 game any good though?
I'm cautiously optimistic about this. The fact that Max's accent was originally American really ground my gears - I can't believe they thought they could get away with that.
Still, I won't be too harsh. It's by the Just Cause guys, so it could be great.
@ToddlerNaruto never played it. Didn't get into the films until about 15 years ago!
Mad max for now, Fallout, if announced at E3, would not be ready for retail until 2016 at the earliest.
@Johnnycide Oh wow so around 2000 then? I was 11 back then (I turned 26 in Jan)
Anyways I'll try to watch the movies, hope NetFlix has them.
