It's a bit odd watching this 13 minute video for Everybody's Gone to the Rapture just a few weeks after The Order: 1886 was panned. Don't get us wrong, Ready at Dawn's debut PlayStation 4 release had bigger problems than prolonged walking segments – but this slow shuffle through Shropshire doesn't look particularly riveting, does it?
To be fair, the visuals are absolutely amazing, capturing post-apocalyptic village life perfectly. However, unless the story is top-tier, we're going to go out on a limb and assume that strutting past abandoned Metros won't be everyone's cup of tea. In fact, we can already sense the pitchforks assembling outside The Chinese Room's office.

It was very reminiscent of the village I grew up in and not that different from many rural villages (minus the 80's cars and red phone boxes) around England today. Its not unlike the scenery I have seen many many times and whilst it is visually impressive, its what it can offer as a game that interests me. So far I have seen nothing that warrants further investigation. I buy games to be entertained, to challenge myself and/or to have 'fun'. So far this to be lacking any of that. It kind of reminds me of Google Maps!
It's worth remembering that The Chinese room's breakout hit (Dear Esther) was vilified in some circles for been just a "walking simulator". Rapture is probably going to be something similar, besides this is the kind of genre where VR could really thrive.
It looks more like a ps3 game, and even the last of us has better looking environments on ps3.
I'm really looking forward to this, specifically for the atmosphere.
I haven't played The Order yet but several reviews mentioned that while the world created was beautiful, they never felt fully immersed in it. I don't think that'll be a problem with Rapture.
I'm still intrigued. I love these kind of environments so I really hope this ends up being great. I can see this being a PS Plus freebie down the road so I might wait and see if that happens
Looks great. can't compare to 1886 as it's a very different story/narratvie etc.
Only problem I saw was they had the price of fuel wrong at the petrol station.
Walking simulation.... Go outside.... Forget this...
@nathanSF For 1984 they certainly did!
@nathanSF I noticed that, may be it has something to do with the storyline. Maybe we're at war?
Pleasantly surprised at the response here. I think I was pre-empting a backlash, but clearly I was wrong to do so. I think it looks intriguing, too!
Countryside Simulator 2015
@get2sammyb I think the difference is that this game looks and feels very much like an "indie" product where's The Order came under fire because it was a AAA tentpole exclusive and that brings more heightened expectations.
Well I've been in the "interested" camp on this one for a while now, and this certainly hasn't changed that. Not 100% convinced, but will definitely be giving it a go!
I have just recently started hearing about this game and color me interested.
Listening to the people talk made it seem incredibly pretentious, made me want to play myst also.
yep, im still interested. hope theres a power walk button though although i was expecting the visuals to be a bit more post apocalyptic. it just seems more like taking a stroll on a nice day lol. still really looking forward to it. would be cool to get dear esther too maybe as a bonus or something. maybe a chinese room collection.
Yes! On the hype train! I need to read more of the story. Are we talking the biblical rapture?
Wow. I'm very, very much looking forward to this. Props to The Chinese Room.
I'm somewhat interested in this. Not of fan of religiously themed whatnot, but apocalyptic stuff, I am. So I'll keep an eye out.
I'm in.
