The eve of St. Paddy's Day seems like a perfect time to announce that Northern Irish swing king Rory McIlroy will be replacing Tiger Woods as the face of EA Sports' popular PGA Tour series. The four-time Major champion will make his PlayStation 4 debut this June in – take a deep breath – EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. Yes, that's the name that the publisher's gone for – and yes, there should be a colon in there somewhere, shouldn't there?
The 25-year-old star – who supposedly signed a $250 million deal with Nike a couple of years ago – said that he was very "proud and humbled" to see his face and name on the game. "I really hope that people enjoy the game and I'm very glad that I can be a part of it. This is a great honour, and something that I couldn't even dream of growing up playing the sport."
This entry will mark the series' transition to EA's famously flaky Frostbite engine, which promises to remove annoying loading times between holes. As you may remember from E3 last year as well, there will be fantasy courses, meaning that real-world locations such as Augusta will be accompanied by more outlandish environments such as a battleship. The jury's still out on this, then, but we won't be clubbing it with our 4 Wood until we've seen more.

Off-topic but what the heck happen to the Fight Night games? I'm not a fan of watching boxing but always enjoyed the games.
@Splat I think the Fight Night team made EA Sports UFC. I hope they make another Fight Night, but I can see them plumping up for another MMA title - especially seeing as they plumped up for the license.
EA Sports can be a bit frustrating, though. They hold exclusive rights to Wimbledon as well, but barely ever make any tennis titles.
I'm super excited for this. Im an avid golfer and longtime Tiger Woods PGA Tour fan so I'm glad EA is finally releasing another one
I know its a long shot but any chance of Move support? I really like motion controls with my golf games.
I'm looking forward to whacking it on hardest mode career and being reduced to tears.
This is going to have to be seriously impressive if it wants to migrate fans from The Golf Club, which since release has gone from strength to strength and built a great community. I'm also looking forward to Move play too, so I hope it's included.
@bman2112 I haven't played The Golf Club since review. What's changed since launch?
Like a bit of Golf, one of the only sports I can stand might keep and eye out for this.
@ Sammy.
New themes, lots of new courses being built by the community. Frame-rate improvements. Probably 50% improvement since launch
With another update any day now. Also adding online lobbies soon too and a career mode
@bman2112 I do agree that The Golf Club is a good golf sim but it still has some gameplay issues that need fixing. I play The Golf Club all the time and really enjoy it but would welcome a new gen PGA Tour just as long as it works as intended by the devs and not rushed by the publisher. Keeping my fingers crossed for a solid experience
If anyone has The Golf Club on PS4 and would like more people to play it with my PSN ID and Gamertag is wardie3223
My current handicap is 4.7 under par.
I wonder if they will lock out halve the game and try to get you to buy the unlock like they have since 12?
