Sony's making a movie for practically every video game franchise in existence – well, that is if you read the news. Not content with ongoing Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Shadow of the Colossus projects, the firm has apparently signed up British writer Jay Basu to work on a Metal Gear Solid adaptation. We're sure that it'll be great.
The scribe doesn't have much pedigree just yet, but is apparently working on a Marvel-esque universe for Universal's roster of classic monster characters, so is clearly well regarded. Obviously, with the writer only just recruited, there are no plot or cast details to pore over yet. We're sure that we'll be writing inconsequential stories about this for the next decade or so to come.

emmm, konami get rid of kojima then a Metal Gear movie is announced
I wonder if kojima was blocking it and that's why konami got rid of him, so they can expand Metal Gear into other markets
@BLPs
Considering Metal Gear is the only franchise they have worth a damn anymore, I say there's a very good chance it bites them in the a$$. Unless they're able to steal some of the people from Platinum who made Metal Gear Rising and put them in charge of the series future. Rising was a better game than I ever expected it to be.
@FullbringIchigo
3 years ago, you would be right. But this movie has been a longtime coming.

MGS movie rumours have been floating round for over a decade, be surprised if anything comes of this.
Yep, I take all game to movie rumours with a mountain of salt. They're talked about until the end of time, but hardly ever seem to come to fruition (thankfully as far as I'm concerned). It's nice to see games slowly starting to become considered as art on the same level as movies are, but that doesn't mean all games suddenly need movies made of them.
Often the things that make great games translate badly to movies, and vice versa. Probably a large factor in the reasons why most of these tie ins that get reported never actually seem to get off the ground.
That said, I would potentially welcome an Uncharted film with Nathan Fillion as Drake. Because Mal Reynolds. Unfortunately, the director who was considering this then left the film, and then the person who subsequently took the helm had never heard of Fillion. That said, this gossip is now a few years old itself, so maybe there's hope yet!
@Punished_Boss_84 I'm just trying to come up with a reason as to why they dropped kojima
guess I'm still in denial
Hopefully Kojima can direct it, even if he isn't part of Konami.
I always thought that the Legacy of Kain series would have made a good movie trilogy, if done right. Hell, I'd like to see a new game in that series come to think of it..
@NomNom By joining Sony...
@whywai88 Don't get my hopes up...
Well, even though it will flop like all video game movies, I can hope for one thing...Kiefer Sutherland to play the lead role (since he gave his voice to the fifth installment). If not him, put Kurt Russell in...he already had the patch and long hair in Escape and Captain Ron, and he could still look the age of Snake.
@Fenriswolf- I'd love to see a new game in that series too, but I think they're done with, unless someone buys them up...could help nintendo out right now.
@JLPick Yea, I'm not gonna hold my breath, I gave up hope for a new entry long ago...probably around the time Amy Hennig was into the 2nd Uncharted title. In my opinion, without her involvement, any new LoK game wouldn't be worthy. And now that she's with Visceral working on Battlefront, that pretty much puts the last nail in the coffin. But who knows, I do know she views the series as the best-developed and most groundbreaking work she's done. And she is aware o the huge cult-following of the series, so maybe I'll be surprised one day.
I'd watch this movie, but probably because i suck at playing the games.
