PlayStation 4 PS4 Hardware 1

There's no doubt that PlayStation 4 firmware update v2.50 is an absolute monster – if you haven't seen the full list of features, point your peepers through here – but it is still missing a couple of oft-requested additions. Top of the most wanted list is DLNA support, a feature that was present on the PlayStation 3, but is taking its sweet time making the jump to Sony's next-gen machine.

However, writing on the PlayStation Blog, Scott McCarthy – who's in charge of product planning and software innovation at SCEA – hinted that the manufacturer's beavering away on this all-important media addition. "We want PS4 versions of these features, not a cut and paste from last-gen," he told an inquisitive fan. "Stay tuned."

There was a shaky rumour last year that DLNA would be added in "early 2015", but that doesn't appear to have worked out. The same person, however – who claimed to be a Sony employee – did also state that an MP3 player would be added to the system, and this did happen, as part of firmware update v2.00. This is likely in the works, then – just not ready for primetime.
