Ever since its stunning March lineup concluded, the PlayStation 4 has been slowly sliding down the Japanese sales charts – but it's enjoyed a lift this week, courtesy of Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II. In truth, the Compile Heart sequel only sold 22,609 copies – but it was enough to boost sales of Sony's new-gen system up from 15,419 units to 20,112 units.
This actually put it on top of the hardware charts, but only if you count Nintendo 3DS models separately; cumulatively, the Kyoto company's pocketable platform remained on top. It was a decent enough week for the PS4, though, with the likes of Tropico 5 and BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend all charting – albeit with pretty low numbers. Golden Week should boost figures all around in next week's report.
We should just mention that the PlayStation Vita continued to hold well, selling 15,467 units – and Minecraft: PS Vita Edition is showing some impressive legs on the system, where it propelled its life-to-date sales up to over 100k copies this week. To recap: a Microsoft-owned property is selling extraordinarily well on a Sony handheld in Japan. It's a weird and wonderful world, eh?

3DS is dying in Japan, even Bravely Second couldn't sell more units...
@ferrers405 I think it's just reaching saturation point. Most people who want one now have one, I suspect.
@get2sammyb right, in other words no market, product sales start to fall = dying.
Man, what can the Xbox One do to get a boost in sales there?
@ferrers405 I think I just maybe read your comment in a negative sense. I guess what you're saying is true, yes - but when you're approaching 20 million units sold, 'dying' seems a bit harsh.
But yes, I see what you're saying now. My mistake.
@shonenjump86 Nothing.
@get2sammyb
Which is why Nintendo is trying to sell the New 3DS, most obviously, to people who already own the system.
The 3DS is gradually slipping away the same as the Wii U--which is slipping away fast, but both systems are almost completely lacking in 3rd party support with only occasional, rare exceptions.
Sony is clearly returning to form, as it were, concerning their stance and hold over the industry during the PS1 and PS2 eras.
I WANT MORE NEP-NEP IN AMERICA
Neptunia is the most underrated franchise in video games
BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma Extend will be released in Europe sometime after FF15.
@DualWielding Yes.
@ferrers405 If the market's so saturated that there's nobody left to sell systems to, it means that there's a massive base to sell games to. Which, y'know, is kind of the whole point.
@Fath not really DS sold the double of systems, the problem is that the mobile took a lot of 3Ds market.
@ferrers405
1) It's Japan, man, mobile ate all the consoles' lunch, not just the 3DS'.
2) Mobile's an established presence by now. Nothing's actively dying from mobile; it's already killed everything.
3) The 3DS (family; splitting its models makes about as much sense as splitting PS4 sales based on what size tv the buyer's going to play it on) is still the top seller in both the hardware and software charts in question here, so this entire debate is moot to begin with.
Anyway, good on Nep-Nep, that's an impressive bump to PS4 sales for such an understated franchise.
@Fath
1&2) Not really, 3DS was selling 60k+ in the last year.
3) Did I said otherwise?
